I thought your xbox will literally be in pieces. While I wouldnt like this if I bought it, its not as bad as you seem. But like others say. Take it to the store and let them exchange it.

I was expecting panels broken and big scruff marks and dents and everything. That doesnt look all that bad, but thats just me...
Hope you get it sorted dude.

I understand what you are saying but what happens if it dies in a month and he takes it back and they say "blow me this has scratches all over it, you must have treated it like a crack ###### - we aren't going to honour the warranty"

I'm seeing this more and more often with new laptops coming in straight from the MFG. I opened up a Dell Latitude E6430 box the other day, $1900 laptop, with random scuffs all over the top and on the bottom. It looked like it had been refurbished, but the rest of the parts were brand new

If you call Microsoft they won't send you a new one, they'll send you a refurb I'm sure. Just exchange it at BBY, the MGR should be able to hold one on an incoming truck and not have to worry about the amount of days.

I personally would have been upset about that, 1k for a scratched console.

Not sure how it works in the US, but under the sales of good act, you're not 100% satisfied you've brought a unit that has damage. You're entitled to a full refund if you take it back. Due to the item being faulty from the start, your insurance should be void and you should be entitled to a full refund if you bring back everything you brought with proof of receipt.

Just some scratches on the case no big deal it will function as normal :D .

Aside from my joke. You should resport that to the local news or something. Better yet start recording when you buy expensive box units so you have proof you did not scratch it. Sorry to hear about it sucks to wait 10 hours and then have that happen to you :(.

Thanks ! I'm sure it will be in the end. You know it's like the new toy feeling. When you open it up and it's molested before you even get the chance to touch it.

Ahh, so PS4s aren't the only console suffering faults!

To the OP, was the box completely sealed when you bought it. It looks like it was a display model that was re-boxed.

Nope, I covered that too https://www.neowin.net/news/foxconn-intern-claims-ps4-was-sabotaged-during-manufacturing

The same thing has happened to my xbox.  The box works fine but there are 'teeth' marks dug out of the box along the edges and scratches on it that don't rub off with a towel and water.

Looks like someone was gnawing at it. lol.

Hopefully this is isolated. Knock on wood mine doesn't have any mark, but I'll check in the morning. I'm so far loving my xbone, I have neowin snapped to the right while I have netflix playing on the left all while bf4 is installing :d

This looks less like a manufacturer problem and more like mishandling by store employees

It was new in box, wrapped up in this thick foam.  It was well packaged so I doubt it was damaged like this in transit or at the store.

It sucks, but just because the plastic or stickers are in place, doesn't mean that the retailer didn't have it unpackaged.  You would be shocked how many 'new' items are opened and played with and tested at the warehouses and even the retail locations of stores like BestBuy.

Take it back to BestBuy and demand they flat out replace the unit. Have them pull out the replacement one and let you look at it before leaving the store.

You can complain to Microsoft, but trying to get it replaced through them will take more time.

Scratches and failed units are not really synonymous.

(There were 'some' scratched PS4s as well, but the Lights of Death took a more prominent role in the news cycle. I guess owners with only scratches on their PS4 felt lucky.)

BTW...

Sony has started saying that the PS4 issues were damage from shipping. (Statement released today)

I happen to agree with your reporting that the Foxconn scandal did play a role in the PS4 problems, even if Sony wants to blame several shipping companies.

Most likely a fault on the production line causing the boxes to get stuck or something similar.

Either way the store or MS should replace it for you without issues, not sure why you're here posting instead off just going back to the store or callingt them.

So mine has a nice scratch, about 1.5cm long, right in the middle of the shiny top bit :/

They put a protective cling film on the power brick, but not the console itself.

Well played, you ######.

    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.
