Razzies 2014: Will and Jaden Smith, 'Movie 43' dominate; 'Grown Ups 2' wins nothing (Is that good?)

You may be busy plating your charcuterie or putting gold frosting on sugar cookies in preparation for a loaded Oscar bash, but don?t forget that there?s another major movie awards show going down in Hollywood this weekend.

On March 1, the winners of the 34th annual Razzie Awards were announced in a ceremony at IgnitedSpaces in Hollywood. Honoring the worst films of the year with a prestigious Golden Raspberry statue, the annual awards call out the year?s biggest stars to ?Own Their Bad,? which occasionally happens when folks like Sandra Bullock actually show up at the ceremony to collect (like she did in 2009 for All About Steve).

This year?s crop of nominees was dominated by the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups 2, which led the pack of Worst Picture nominees that included other mega-embarrassments like Movie 43, The Lone Ranger (also nominated for an Oscar), After Earth, and A Madea Christmas. What does it mean for Sandler, then, that Grown Ups 2 earned the most nominations and yet went home completely empty-handed at the ceremony?

Movie 43 and After Earth each won three Razzies, while The Lone Ranger, A Madea Christmas, and Tyler Perry?s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor earned one award each. The full list of nominees is here, and check out this year?s winners below:

Worst Picture
Movie 43

Worst Actor
Jaden Smith - After Earth

Worst Actress
Tyler Perry (in drag) ? A Madea Christmas

Worst Supporting Actor

Will Smith - After Earth

Worst Supporting Actress
Kim Kardashian - Tyler Perry?s Temptation

Worst Screen Combo
Jaden Smith & Will Smith - After Earth

Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel

Worst Director
The 13 people who directed Movie 43

Worst Screenplay
Movie 43 (written by 19 ?Screenwriters?)

Hello,

Im a huge Adam Sandler fan and even I have to admit that Grown Ups 2 was the worst movie Sandler has put out ever. I am VERY surprised it didn't win anything. Without a doubt, it deserved at least "Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel"

Did anyone show up to receive their Razzie?

Honestly.. all of his movies as of late have been pretty poor.

Movie 43 was pretty hilarious, imo.  It was obviously a spoof comprised of a bunch of short skits put together, so it really doesn't count as a "movie".

If you want to see a ton of A-list actors/actresses break away from their normal roles and put on a comedy act, Movie 43 is about as good as it gets.

Tyler Perry should get the whole dump truck of Razzies since he puts out a steamy pile of crap every year that consistently get terrible ratings.

The problem I had with 43 was that most of the short skits went on WAY too long. The joke was funny, but then got ran into the ground and progressively got less funny, even to the point of being not funny anymore. They simply didn't know when to end it.

Chloe Moretz one was the best imo

The Razzies, where filmmakers who have not made it, deride those who have.

As opposed to the kissy kissy suckfest that are the other awards? I mean, let's face it, the other ceremonies are a bunch of rich fatcats who pat themselves on the back for films that the majority of the world doesn't really give a crap about. Look at the movies that get awards, look at their box office totals and then compare them to movies that actually are box office hits.

Disclaimer: that is of course not always true, there are obvious exceptions to this, but for the most part, it is.

With that being said, the Razzies were created by someone who's not even a filmmaker: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_J._B._Wilson (Copywriter, publicist)

Make no mistake, the Razzies are just as back-slapping and congratulatory.  "Wow you made a short film on h-8 that 5 people saw.  That's way more worthy than the movie that literally millions of people turned out to".

Look at the movies that get awards

12 Years A Slave, Gravity, Dallas Buyers Club, Frozen - 4 fantastic films worthy of praise and didn't exactly fare badly at the box office either.

That first part, I don't get what you're saying there at all. Razzies are back-slapping and congratulatory? Toward who? How?

Like I said, there are exceptions to the rule, Gravity and Frozen being those exception this time around, but your point was that Razzies are given out by people who couldn't make it in the business and are therefore bashing those who could, when that simply isn't true. Movie 43 was crap and so was After Earth, even the critics thought so.

Eh, didn't see 12 years a slave.. but Gravity was OKAY, Dallas Buyers Club was pretty good, lost me a few times though.  Frozen I haven't watched in it's entirety, the kids watch it back to back to back.. so I've seen bits.. seemed pretty generic to me.

Hello,

No doubt. I would say even getting worst. Jack and Jill and Grown Ups 2 were horrible. I have confidience in Blender as Barrymore/Sandler complimented well (Im not saying it was the best but) in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates.

I still need to see Gravity and 12 Years but I have no real interest in both :/ but I can see why they won

Hello,

I still need to see Gravity

Dont. Go to IMAX and see whatever documentary about space they have. You will not only learn more but it might be more of a movie than Gravity.

My review says it all but then again, there are tastes for everything.

By what you're saying I don't believe you really know what the Razzies are about.  check this out -  http://www.razzies.com/forum/topic326_page1&TPN=1.html

Nik, and for goodness sakes lighten up, lately you've been so negative.   :/

Didn't Sandra Bullock accept a Razzie a couple of years ago in person? I thought that was awesome of her (then she won an Oscar that same day lol).

Honestly, I don't know why people hated Movie 43 so much. I finally got around to seeing it a couple of weeks ago and it really wasn't the worst movie ever like people made it out to be. As stated above, the jokes were funny (as were most of the actors in said joke skits) but went on far to long for some of them.

Yes, for "All About Steve".

It was Halle Berry, for Catwoman. And she took the Oscar she won for Monster's Ball.

And Movie 43 was utter garbage. People badmouthing Grown Ups 2 as the worst Adam Sandler movie should man up and watch Jack & Jill. Not even A Serbian Film made me feel so physically ill.

Yes, she did; She won "Worst Actress" and "Best Actress" the same year (2010) for two different movies. And anyone that accepts a Razzie gains a lot of respect. I mentioned in Gravity review that I dont think the character she played was completely her fault.
