I found the pc version of DS to be pretty much unbearable. You had the choice of either dealing with ridiculous amounts of screen tearing, or unplayably high amounts of mouse lag if you turn on vsync.

The way to fix that is to turn vsync off in game and use your video cards software to enable vsync. It made the game playable at least but there was still a bit of mouse acceleration.

For those who have played all the dead space series - is the first worth playing? I completed Dead Space 3 but that got pretty boring and repetitive about 1/2 way through the game. I could practically predict when the necromorphs would attack, and once I constructed my OP gun ... the game just became a boring chicken shoot in narrow corridors.

Also - the graphics were somewhat shabby.

In my mind the 1st one is the best one as it had the best survival horror atmosphere. Of course it controls like a pig :) Afterwards the franchise kind of became a console shooter.

I might have to give it a shot. Everybody says the first is the best but the 3rd did rather put me off the whole series :(

Never hurts to try I suppose.

Yeah, the first is definitely the best imo (didn't like the keyboard/mouse controls though, used a 360 controller), the second is quite good too, but the third is boring unless you play co-op. They're probably doing the game for free because most people already have it from last years humble origin bundle :p

Just FYI but this is will be a reccuring offer from EA/Origin called 'On The House':

About 'On the House'

Free?! What's the catch?

There's no catch. Grab full games, expansions and more at absolutely no cost. Just make sure to act fast because On the House specials can appear and disappear at any time.

You mean a trial or demo, right?

Nope. You?re getting a full version of the real game ? for free!

How long will I own the game?

Once you?ve claimed your game, it?s yours to keep!

Why is Origin doing this?

We're gamers, too. We appreciate you making Origin your gaming home ... and besides, who doesn't like free stuff?

Pretty awesome (Y)

What a stupid question lol

They do this to be sure you open Origin once in a while. You might actually buy a game in the process and they will give games not selling anymore.

Nice promo though and this is how you gather interest for a platform. Origin is still lacking as far as community features go they will need to fix this one day or another.

Competition is great Ubi might start doing this too which would be awesome. Can't complain about free games even if it is old ones.

I wonder if the first batch of games they'll put "on the house" will  be the games that were apart of their Humble Bundle last year.

Probably not. They will give old games published by them.

Still nice imo. Will give me a reason to open Origin ;)

And it's not as though Valve hasn't done this as well (I'm referring specifically to Valve, as opposed to other developers/publishers on Steam).

I do not recall Valve ever offering Half Life or Counter Strike for free.

I do not recall Valve ever offering Half Life or Counter Strike for free.

Portal 1 and L4D2 were both given away, while CS:GO has had free weekends.

Also worth mentioning is Alien Swarm, Team Fortress 2 switching completely from retail to F2P and Dota 2 launching F2P.

However, do they not offer Portal for free today?  Is or is not Team Fortress (the original) free?

Quibble, quibble, quibble.

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
    • Being on Github makes it more trustable since I can see the code at any point.
    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
