this looks - esp. considering your profile - more like a cheap trolling attempt. you know, im always saying, first proof, show action then we judge. you might not like the kde interface, but the facts remain that it has the most features making windows and mac osx look like cheap and unfinished. i just say dolphin and the export plugins in ksnapshot every windows user would killing for.

 

so if you know what the kde UI lacks then do - at least - a mockup, or even better, --> bugs.kde.org  and fill it in as a wishlist.

I made that in five minutes, to show how I see it, and that was more of an uniformity (Icons, shadow, transparency) exemple than a new fantastic UI...

the design is not that bad, but thats just nothing kde would ever apply because if you want to have it simple, take xfce or lxde. i think i even have seen that iconset you use in your mockup somewhere already.

so if you want you can customize kde the way that it looks similar to your tastes but if kde releases it that way, no one would ever download it sorry.

Yeah, I guess minimalism is not for everyone, like I said, this is how I sees it.. and that was made in 5 minutes to show my vision of uniformity in design, not to blow peoples mind, lol...

 

I took an icon set really quickly called Token by brsev because it fitted my idea of a minimalist interface...

 

Anyway, that was just to show you what I have in mind.. hehe

sure but kde never was intended to be minimalistic at all. so i dont think its right to critisize them from that point of view.

its like saying ferrari sucks because they dont produce a car only consuming 4l of fuel on 100km.

or saying i dont like dessert because there aint any snow.

 

you know you cant have it both ways,  and exactly therefore are made lots of alternatives. thanks to a big community with linux everyone can find a desktop/distribution suiting his needs and style.

This guys seems to have a different opinion about both ways, lol (I don't know why I thought about this song when I saw your comment... hahah) :P

here another screenshot, showing that kde seems to have complete theme sets by now (still every aspect can be adjusted manually as well)

 

 

the window border decoration being slightly off is a known bug btw.

nice little progress also with Klipper - for now there are two klippers included, the old default one (don't know if it gets still maintenance) and the new one. still a bit buggy, but features nice little tricks and integrates well into the new kde.

 

 

on the ss above you see the edit button, you can edit every clipboard entry manually, the button on the left is basically an execute button, for example if i chose the postimg.org entry, it opens up a small menu, where i can chose a browser for example and it opens up the entry. very nice work by the kde guys.

 

 

since today, i have "colors" in the system settings. i know these guys have already a goal how it will look like in the end and i think i have posted screenshots about it a few pages back.

i really like this by now. systemsettings always needed an overhaul on kde imho and they are working hard on it.

a new look at the notification center and clipboard manager....

integration is progressing nicely. as you can see even if i access the clipboard manager on the left side it lists the open applications with systray support, so i can access them over there - in my example kopete....

the kde devels are also working on a new widget style, i have not checked since when it got introduced but for quite some time had to rely on QTCurve, which is the old one:

and it now has got a widgetstyle breeze

now the same window with the breeze widget style activated, i have to say it integrates really really well

Just got new ati drivers and firefox nightly working on this.  Fixed up some graphics problems and has been rather stable.  Plus, you just explained away the only issue I was wondering about (two different klippers).

it runs very stable here as well and feels lighter than kde 4. i switched to the roboto font now, looks even better.

about the old klipper, if you quit it it asks if it should start next time, chose no, i think this fixes it, because i think these are indeed 2 different ones, maybe the new one is not that stable yet so they have left in the old one still.

I haven't used KDE in forever.  I always found it too big.. and.. round.  Since cinnamon was released by the mint team.. I've always gone with that.  Though the pictures of KDE 5 and the recent pictures make it look pretty nice.

Jack -- just out of curiosity, which distro are you testing with.. think you were partial to Kubuntu yea? Is it Kubuntu with the neon/kf5 PPA or the 14.10 beta?  And how's the stability, good enough for general use yet or still keeping it to a VM? Last build I messed with was pretty wonky but it was a really early build too, tempted to check up on it again, curious if it's ready for a real desktop yet.

KDE has improved a lot visually, but...it still feels...I dunno. Bubbly? And I've just never been happy with its start menu. It's like 10-some years ago they saw XP and got really excited, ~approximated~ it, and have just poked that approximation around release after release.

 

KDE also taught me that I have the weirdest pet peeve when I see "Ok" instead of "OK". It grabs my attention and drives me up the wall.

Wouldn't mind seeing some improvements to it as well, aside from the visuals that is which they're obviously really focused on (and doing a great job with, first desktop with a look I like out of the box, ever).. at least get some of the basics in that it's missing. That's Kickoff mind you, there's others you can pick from, just going OOTB. That said, it's still much better than some of the alternatives, just for example Unity's puts me to sleep waiting while it's thinking about which ads to show, Gnome 3's gives me a nosebleed every time I have to use it, some others are straight out of 1995, etc. Think the only one I like more than Kickoff would be the one in Mate, but still prefer KDE by far.

the startmenus in cinnamon and mint are dead slow. performance of kde startmenu is way better.
