And I'm sure the Nexus promptly took it back down. The torrent sites haven't taken it down. So I would imagine between Bethesda's beta VIPs, the two people who got it from the Nexus, and the people who torrented it, most of them torrented it.

It had about 800 or so downloads on Nexus before it got taken down.  But yeah.

Either way, it's pirated regardless of the site they got it from. And I'm sure Bethesda loves the fact that 800 people avoided paying $25 for it, costing them a potential $20,000. That's gotta hurt relations between the PC modding community and Bethesda.

Anyway, I got mine legally and the right way, and that spoiler that I said I got? Basically true, what little I read, but it was something that happened ~15 minutes in, so nothing of value was lost. Anyway, here's some non-spoiler information.

A lot of people are having trouble finding Nick Valentine for the DLC. You don't need him per se, but he has a lot of lines in the DLC, and he's tied to its story somehow (exactly how, was the spoiler I got). You actually get the quest from his assistant, Ellie. If you're on PC it's a simple console command to go to him. player.moveto 2f25. That will put you in the cell he's in. So, Diamond City, or one of the settlements. In my game he was in Graygarden.

Ideally you want to be friendly to all the factions when you start Far Harbor, as once you learn about what's up there (this is before you initially leave), you can optionally tell each of them (except the Minutemen who don't care) what you found, and presumably they'll reward you for this information. So there is some prep work before you actually go to Far Harbor itself.

I went at level 50 (and I play on Normal), and the enemies are tough. You face some of the new enemies almost right away, and they're pretty bullet spongey. I'm running a gunslinger build, and I'm doing around 150 damage a shot straight up on my dual shot Deliverer, more when I sneak. Something like 200-225 on my bigger guns (dual shot .44 and +15 Explosive laser pistol). Then I hit some ghouls and those are about the same, so far. Haven't met the FH ghouls yet; the island has regular ones that go down in a shot or two like any other.

So far it's been pretty fun. Largely story driven with some sporadic action. I'm following the story, and I've just gotten to the first place that isn't the harbor town you land in. A lot of talking. A lot of charisma checks (save scumming works if you wanna be like that and you're not playing on Survival mode). The comparisons to Point Lookout are pretty apt so far.

Your Commonwealth settlements will get randomly attacked while you're in Far Harbor. I'm choosing to ignore them.

There's also a lot of new settlement building supplies, and norespawns has a solid video on them here. The short of it? New "Barn" kit we kind of knew was coming for a while. A lot of coast/fisherman props. A few new signs. Oh, and outhouses.

Playing on Very Hard and the enemies are pretty weak.  Of course, I am lvl 106.   Just started and got to the one town.  Going to do the side quests before I spend more time in the main story line.

Well, I've been across the island... so they make this big deal about how nobody really leaves the coastal town of Far Harbor, or rather just the area near the docks they've barricaded. It's a bigger city, but most of it has been abandoned. (And it appears the island was originally called Bar Harbor after all, but part of the B was rubbed off... kind of like the town Arefu (from "Careful") in Fallout 3, or Novac (from "No Vacancies") in New Vegas.) But this one guy, the gritty old Longfellow (that's his name) you saw in the trailer, has the guts to take you to Acadia, the first place in the main quest. Well, until you get your first settlement, and it gets attacked, and your first settler wants to take the fight to the trappers. And she knows exactly where they're holed up. It's not a big secret. Okay. So I agree. And she leads me all the way across the map. So that was a little immersion breaking.

Comparing this to Solstheim (Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC island), Solstheim had three settlements... I guess FH does as well. FH the town, Acadia, and the Children of Atom settlement. Plus, you can make more, I think it's four that are on the island, and I have two of them. The two I have are huge, though. About the size of Starlight or Sanctuary.

I've had a good amount of fun with the Far Harbor DLC, it's nice to get away from "searching" for my son. I completed it yesterday and now i'm searching the islands for loot puzzles and the last 2 almanacs for the last achievement. :)

When you first arrive at Far Harbor and experience the fog it gave me Dead Money vibes, its a shame the radiation isn't an issue like they lead you to believe. :( That's my only disappointment so far.

damn DIMA quest was fricken annoying as hell

Would you say it's... "Best Left Forgotten"? I just did that quest earlier today, too. I think it's going to give me nightmares. But you should know there's a mod out there that bypasses it. I wouldn't have bypassed it the first time, but I will never play it again.

I really screwed up the last room. I overthought it, and while I eventually diverted the laser to the platform on the left (with the four spires) and then to the far platform, it never occurred to me to keep the laser there. I thought the laser had to be redirected from the central hub to each firewall individually, not in succession. Had I thought about that, I would have had a much easier time. My final solution was sloppy, but it worked. Since I have the mod "Place Everywhere," I wasn't strictly bound by the grid or even gravity. So I ended up placing one redirect cube in the air in the central hub to fire at the last firewall. Of course as you know you can only go one below or two above. So I placed it at the highest possible position where it could clear the hub. It hit the firewall maybe an inch below where it needed to go. So I placed a second one in the air, and it elevated the beam. My MS Paint skills are slightly better than my ability to explain, so check this: G4B7Zzv.png

Basically...  on the left you have the hub. Sorry, I forgot the floor. The blue blocks are the ones you can't move. The green line is the laser. The puke colored blocks are the redirect cubes. The aqua bar is the starting point you shoot through.  The red is the firewall, and the light blue square is the target. So again, what I did was, I got a redirect cube just below the block blocking the laser from making this puzzle super simple, which missed the target. A second redirect cube elevated it.

Big image, I know, but it's PNG, so it's 4.51KB. Would have taken a full second to load on 56K.

Anyway, I'm super lucky the game let me do that. I was very close to rage quitting.

On an unrelated note, what in the hell kind of name is DiMA, anyway? Okay, so the Institute made two prototype Synths... Let's name one Nick and the other DiMA... yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Or maybe Nick had a weird name, but after he got the old pre-war detective persona, that became his new name, and DiMA never got a normal name.

Having done all the Far Harbor quests... DiMA just made me change sides. Going with the Children of Atom now unless they mess up harder.

If you haven't done it yet, the Red Death quest is a blast. Keep pestering the Mariner for more quests. After she's fortified the walls of the town with Mirelurk shells, she'll start talking about an old fisherman's tale about a beast in the mist. No, it isn't the rumored ghoul whale, but you'll want to bring your biggest, baddest weapon against this red beast. Don't look up a guide, just bring your biggest and best gun.

I have done Dead Death.  Was ok.

DIMA...I did the last puzzle.  I had everything set and was missing one of those cubes that redirect the energy beam  So I reconfigured things a little and still couldn't get it to work.  So I looked around some more and up at the highest point, there was a nothing cube re director thing  I missed.  So I had to put everything back the way it was and then I was able to complete it.  I wanted to go back to DIMA at the end and put to slugs in his scull.  but I saved the game and quit after that as I was frustrated.

I imagine it is harder on survivor.  Just got past the DIMA puzzle quest so still playing the story.  Spent some time looking around, finding the 2 suits of VIM armor, and the legendary recon marine armors.

I have no intention of playing the chore that is the new survivor mode again :p  cba having to redo 15 mins of looting and fighting due to a random mine.

In my playthroughs my characters have only worn the vault 111 jumpsuit (apart from Silver Shroud costume for the quest) I think the new wetsuit may be my first replacement once it's upgraded past my current jumpsuit.

I had a mix match of armor until I found the Legendary Recon Armor.  Tho, there does not seem to be any legendary legs for the armor.  Which I find odd.

Recon armor is cool and all, but I may switch it back to the mix match.  Kinda like the mix match look better.

So... are there any unique pistols in Far Harbor? I'm subscribed to 2-3 YouTube channels that cover unique guns, and I've never seen one cover a pistol. Kind of a big oversight for gunslinger builds like mine, but I've done alright with my mainland weapons. In fact this character is too overpowered for Far Harbor. I've fought one hermit crab (love the design), one fog crawler, and one mirelurk queen, and none took more than a few shots, half a dozen at most. (I play on Normal/Medium.) The Red Death wasn't even that hard. The most trouble I got in was when I was set upon by four or five wolves, plus a legendary glowing one. I had to stop and admire how the wolves will flank you if they're in a group, like wolves do in real life. They will also circle you around to get you to turn your back on other ones. They're really brilliant, and I'd like to see them make their way to the Commonwealth.

I think the most damning thing about the last DiMA puzzle is... each puzzle rewards you with a piece of the story. The last one, though? Just tells you where to find some armor. Had I known, seeing the last puzzle, that I actually had everything I came for, I would have just left. Problem is, I don't think the game will let the story advance if you do that. It would be great fun to learn you can. I might be persuaded to do the first four again. The fourth one was tedious but not that bad. The last one was just a mess, though. But if all four are required... well, either way I'm probably getting the mod to skip them, for next time. Though, a better mod would be to make the fifth one simply optional (if you want the armor cache location).

On a lighter note, earlier I watched norespawns build with the Barn kit for 24 minutes. Nothing really ground breaking here, and I don't think he understands what the big double doors are for on barns (livestock and equipment that won't get up that little narrow stairs he built in front...) but otherwise, he made a pretty neat little building. I think barns should be a bit bigger, though. But still, some good building tips, and he's quite a character, always fun to listen to.

I still have my handy explosive shotgun.  What sucks is when an enemy comes up on me, I blast them at point blank only to kill myself.  Forget I have the shotgun loaded.  Hardest enemy I have to deal with, including Far Harbor, is those damn Super Mutant Warlords.  They seem to absorb whatever I toss at them.  I did find an explosive Rifle which does some pretty good damage.

Have not seen any unique pistons in FH either.  I am a rifle man myself and have a few of them handy.  I rarely use grenades and heavy weapons at all.  Tho I have a ton of uniques in storage at Sanctuary.

^^ You should mention that that's on the Xbox One, as Xbox One mods went live for everyone yesterday (31st of May). The button prompts don't give it away as they're the same on PC. But yeah. Rad. Mods on the Xbox. Haven't seen that happen since the Rockband Network for Rockband 3 back in 2010. Yeah, sorry, Bethesda isn't the first developer to do mods on consoles. Harmonix has that honor (as far as I know), but they only worked with the Xbox 360. The songs that made the most money, Harmonix converted to regular DLC for the PS3, so they got theirs that way, but they never had the full selection, or the illicit customs (haha... anime openings in Rockband, so much fun). But yeah, still a big deal. I really hope they can do a Skyrim Remastered for consoles, integrating the HD Texture Pack (which really didn't improve things THAT much, but they could use the community 4K patches as well) and then have mods... that would be brilliant... but we know they won't.

Okay, have you guys heard about the next three DLCs? News isn't very fast here, but it blew up on Reddit and then the YouTubers I follow last week or the week before. Following the Far Harbor DLC, some text has shown up in the game files for "DLCWorkshop02.esm," "DLCWorkshop03.esm," and "DLCNukaWorld.esm." Now the first two should be obvious. Wasteland Workshop is getting not one, but two sequels. So more Workshop stuff is coming. I'm mixed on that, but hey, more stuff to play with. Having bought the Season Pass for $30, I don't think Bethesda owes me any more DLC, but I'll take what I can get! Now the other one, Nuka World, has got people talking. Literally nothing is known but the name. Oh, and a memo from 2014... yes... two years ago... surfaced where Bethesda urged employees not to speak about the following things: "Fallout," "Fallout 4," "Fallout 4: Far Harbor," "Fallout 4: Nuka World," "The Elder Scrolls," "The Elder Scrolls VI," and something else... I wanna say Heartsbane, but that was the sword in Sunday night's Game of Thrones... but it was something like that that's probably not related to Fallout. So 2 years ago Bethesda knew something about Far Harbor, they at least had the name if nothing else... and that Nuka World name again. StarLord, one of my favorite YouTubers, speculates we'll get the Wasteland Workshop DLCs back to back in June and July, and Nuka World in August, but I'd like to believe that Nuka World would come in the middle, in July. However, I'm calling it now: Nuka World will be announced this weekend at E3. That's my prediction.

As far as the other two Wasteland Workshops... if you recall, the first one also included the whole trapper/arena element as well as building new stuff. And it included the very awesome concrete kit. So, I have high hopes for the next two. I'd really like to build my own Vault. I know there's a mod for it, but what if, post-endgame, you wanted to do like the Institute (please tell me this isn't still a spoiler) and make a life underground. So you find a hill or a mountain somewhere, and being the savior of the Commonwealth, people like you, and the more people you've helped, the more people talk about you and your fallout shelter, and you can build this all-inclusive community, mixing the Minutemen with members of the factions you've helped, and of course a bunch of settlers who don't necessarily prefer the open sky. These games go on forever, only ending when you quit or start a new character, but at this point Fallout 4 doesn't really have a stopping place. Skyrim does, with Hearthfire. With your wife and children asleep, you can sit down and drink your mead and reflect on your life... I like to give my character one hour in-game before deleting the file and starting a new one. For me, it's like staying after a movie to watch the credits, out of respect for all who worked on the film. It's sort of like that. And Fallout 4 lacks anything like that, any final resolution, and I'm not saying it needs it (I'm almost certainly alone in my Skyrim ritual) but it would be nice.

So... Far Harbor... did I beat it, or nah? Spoilers obviously.

Spoiler

So, I frog marched DiMA down to Far Harbor to answer for his crime, and he took some buckshot to the face and now he's laying dead in front of the general store, and I looted him and flipped his image on my TV the bird for making me do that fifth puzzle. I went to the teenage girl (Kasumi, I think?) and got her to go home. Followed her home, got the reward. However, I still have one quest active. Either nuke the Children of Atom, or sabotage the Fog Condensers and ruin Far Harbor. I've done all the quests for both of them. What if I don't want to do either? They aren't actively fighting one another. Neither faction has done anything to me I can't forgive. So, do I have to destroy one or both, or what?

Since the original was 2 minor and then a major DLC, I assumed they would repeat the process for the next 3 major DLC.

But theres something about 2 building DLC in a row that leaves nothing new for those who don't build, unless its a Weapons/Armour workshop update this time. :)

I figured the mods themselves being labeled XB1 or XBox Version would give it away.  Was actually showing that while there won't be nude Marcy Long gracing my PS4, I'll be able to give her some bigger boobs.

Also, UT3 had mods on PS3.

http://kotaku.com/the-first-big-game-that-brought-mods-to-consoles-1713716040

I figured it was about the boobs mod, seeing as its using Bethesda's existing assets and non-nude I doubt they have any intention on removing it. :p

I'm just being picky but seeing [xb1][xbox one][xb] in the titles seems weird, I'm sure that modders probably select the platform and they get filtered out. o.o

    • We check out the SKG PS700 Neck Massager by Steven Parker I was offered the chance to test out the SKG PS700 Neck Massager, and full disclosure, they let me keep it regardless of my findings. Anyway, I jumped at the chance due to my long hours sitting at my desk; I figured it could offer some neck pain relief. What's in the box: SKG PS700-2 Neck Massager Rechargeable Battery (inside massager) Type-C USB cable User Manual Quick Start guide 1-Year Warranty In short, everything you need to get started. According to the official listing, here are the key features: Biomimetic Kneading & High Torque Motor: Designed with innovative biomimetic kneading heads that perfectly simulate the touch of human hands. Powered by a high-torque motor, this massager delivers powerful and precise deep tissue relief to effectively target stiff neck muscles and release built-up tension Soothing Heat & Integrated Sound Relaxation: Experience the ultimate Relaxationation with our dual-action approach. The soothing heat function gently warms your neck, while the built-in sound Relaxation provides calming audio tracks, helping you achieve a state of mindfulness and mental tranquility during your physical massage Cordless Convenience & Travel-Ready & Father's Day Gifts: Crafted for maximum portability and ease of use. Its lightweight, cordless design allows you to enjoy a premium massage anywhere without the hassle of tangled wires-whether you're taking a quick break at your desk or winding down at home Versatile Relief for Home & Office: An essential wellness companion for office workers, gamers, frequent travelers, or anyone looking to integrate mindfulness into their daily routine. It seamlessly fits into your lifestyle, providing instant neck relief whenever and wherever you need it Safe & Premium Materials: Manufactured with high-quality, skin-friendly materials to ensure a safe and comfortable experience without irritation. SKG backs this device with dedicated customer service, making it a thoughtful tech-health gift for family and friends App & Bluetooth Music Control: Connect via Bluetooth to control your massage settings through the dedicated app and enjoy your favorite music during your massage session for a fully customizable and immersive relaxation experience Red Light Warmth Technology: Features advanced red light warmth technology that penetrates deep into neck muscles to enhance blood circulation and provide soothing comfort while relieving muscle tension and stiffness Design With all that out of the way, here are my own findings. SKG does not say what materials are used to make the neck massager. However, on the product website, it mentions "soft-touch silicone" with what looks like PU leather cushioning, with the rest being mostly made up of plastics. On the inside of the massager, there are two "biomimetic kneading heads" that are motorized for the different styles of massage, which are not actually listed at all in the paper user manual, but the standard included modes are: De-stress mode, Mediation mode, Relax mode, Shiatsu mode. The massager looks quite premium and is actually very comfortable to wear. This massager is small and light enough to go anywhere, as it doesn't get in the way of anything, so I was able to use it in the chair while writing this review. Unlike the back massager, SKG does not warn in the user guide not to use it for more than 30 minutes a day (or two 15-minute sessions). However, there is a long laundry list of important safeguards to consider before and during the use of the device, and it is warned that the neck massager is not waterproof. It also includes a 1,400mAh battery with a rated power of 14W and input of 5V, which is the standard for up to USB 3.0 power (although the Amperage is not mentioned at all). SKG does not say how long it takes to charge, but a quick calculation at 2A (if that is what it is) would mean it would take roughly 1.5 hrs to charge from empty. In any case, the light around the button changes from orange to green on a full charge. In addition, it is not possible to use the device while it is charging. On the right of the neck massager is the On/Off and modes button, which also acts as a joystick. You can operate all the modes directly from the power button, as well as the app, which I'll get into a bit later: Push up: Short press to adjust Heat levels On/Off button: long press Mode Switching: Short press (while in operation) ➕ Push left: increase Music volume ➖ push right: decrease Music volume Push down: Short-press to turn Music on or off The massager defaults to De-stress mode, and it is not stated anywhere if the neck massager has overheat protection. This time around, regarding heat, the only detail I could find is that it has "triple action soothing heat." The temperature stages are not listed anywhere in the paper manual, Amazon listing, or official website. The heat levels can be adjusted through the app or directly on the device using the joystick button. Usage There's also the SKG Health app, which makes using the massager far easier than feeling around for the button on the side of your neck. If the app is stopped, you are required to log in with a verification code over email, which I am not too pleased with, as this means it will only work that way for however long SKG decides to support it through said app. However, I was not able to get the app to connect to the OS500, which I have reported back to my contact. Bluetooth appeared to be working on the neck massager as it became available to pair with my phone, but the SKG app failed to discover it. Before I forget, there's also a switch next to the USB charging port to deactivate and activate the Voice Prompt, which, when enabled, audibly tells the user when switching intensities, modes, or connecting to the app and informs when the massages start and are completed. That said, on to my likes and dislikes, which are listed below. What I didn't like Unable to connect the Neck Massager to the app Use through the mobile app relies on continued support from SKG What I liked Can be used without the app Cordless use Light and comfortable to wear Heat is also quite comfortable Where to buy: According to the official website, this has an MSRP of $249.99, but is currently $50 (on Amazon). To sweeten the deal a bit more, there's also an in-page coupon that knocks a further $20 off the price. SKG PS700-2 Neck Massager for $179.99 on Amazon (was $199.99) Apply the in-page $20 off coupon for the final price of $179.99 Just like the back massager, this gets a confused thumbs up (due to the cost). However, I cannot rate it through app usage as it failed to connect. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
