I prefer to have Start open on boot, but when I go into the Navigation settings, Show Start when I log in is greyed out. Any way around this? I'd much rather see a selection of programs to run than a blank desktop when I fire up the system.

I don't even see it greyed out, its gone.  Probably will be added to Settings?

Once it's released you'll have 2 options, if you've used 10158 and above with the e-mail you registered for the preview program with then you can just go on using that and getting pre-release builds which will most likely have bugs, if you want to use the actual, more stable, consumer release you'll need to re-install the previous OS and upgrade from that (unless MS will give us some kind of function to enter our old key and have the OS change to consumer but there's been no indication they intend to do so)

Hope they do, I hate upgrading from one OS version to another (7 to 8, 8 to 10). I'd rather do a clean install.

I have 10162 installed in a VM but that doesn't do much for real world application. How is the latest build with gaming? Locking up still?

Most are running the newest builds fine, without issue, some still have a few, mostly from the upgrades not going smooth, clean installs seem to fix most issues they have.   It's still really a case of YMMV.

Ok so just did an upgrade on my main 8.1 install (created an image backup first with Acronis) to 10162. Everything is working fine, except I cannot activate, even with product key listed on microsoft page - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso

Anyone else having this issue?

The key should work, since it's from MS, maybe it's a server side problem?

Depends on the video cards....  some are good, some are not.

If they have old video cards, they may have problems, such as locking up, glitches, etc... if they plan to play games on it... or stream from xbox.

AMD and Nvidia need to step up with better drivers really.

New features Windows 10 Mobile

(rumored) New Tile Resizing

(in A/B testing now) People App "rolling heads" animation

I just upgraded my video card from an R9 270 to a GTX 970. Both lock up about the same with clean installs of 10130.

Sorry to hear that.

You can either try another card or get a new PC...

You can't expect all computers are same...   they have different configurations Such as RAM, MB, video cards, etc.

Is there no way to close an app in tablet mode? (meaning completely closed, not suspended)

Yes click on taskview icon and click X on app in the taskview.  If you have touch, then swipe from left and then tap X on that app.

10130 isn't the best build out there, you should have done a clean install with the newest 10162 build.

Crashing while gaming is the only thing that keeps me from running Windows 10 as a main OS. I was just asking if anyone has noticed a difference yet on this build (10162). I plan on trying it obviously.

The stupid phone build does not support opening text files. Oh how I wish the retards that are making these stupid decisions get fired. Part of me really wants the whole user experience to be much worse that the worst stuff they released. Maybe when even more people start moving away from Windows, they'll get their poo together.

First change with 7. New stuff, okay, I'll be patient.

Second chance with 7.5. Mostly small changes here and there.

Third chance with 8. New kernel, I'll stuff ignore the stuff that is missing.

Fourth chance with 8.1. Abso######inglutely nothing new.

Fifth chance? Well, you can go flip yourself in your poo factory. I am never ever recommending a Windows based phone to anyone ever again. The frustration to do even basic things is beyond belief.

I get that, just saying, if the build you tried to game on is 10130, who's to say it's the graphics drivers fault or the buggy build?    I test in a VM, so I don't game ofc,  I'm sure others have tested it, we'll know in time.   But then again we could get a newer build, maybe 10163 or something newer on Monday.

You signed in with the e-mail that you completed the registration process on the preview page with and you did complete the registration too? Sorry, I don't know if you've been testing previous versions but to login to any of the builds over 10158 you need to have registered for the preview program.

Windows 10 has really grown onto to me to the point where I don't want to have to clean install 8.1 just to get my free upgrade. I wish there was a way they could just validate my Win 8 key and activate RTM when it's released and even give me an ISO download.

Yes. You must be an Insider for build testing...

The builds won't work with any regular email address unless you signed up for Insider program.

Yeah I've been part of the preview program since day 1.

Hi all. Is there any fix for the ugly UI of Chrome in Windows 10?

I'm talking of the uneven border at the sides of the main window.

PS: today I got mad and updated my workstation with 10162  :s. Everything's perfect so far!

You mean this right? capture.jpg

Right I've been an "Insider" since day one.

    • Kdenlive 26.04.2 by Razvan Serea Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It works on GNU/Linux, Windows and BSD. Through the MLT framework, Kdenlive integrates many plugin effects for video and sound processing or creation. Furthermore Kdenlive brings a powerful titling tool, a DVD authoring (menus) solution, and can then be used as a complete studio for video creation. Kdenlive supports all of the formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG, and Flash Video, among others), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD. Video can also be exported to DV devices, or written to a DVD with chapters and a simple menu. Video editing features: Multi-track editing with a timeline and supports an unlimited number of video and audio tracks. A built-in title editor and tools to create, move, crop and delete video clips, audio clips, text clips and image clips. Ability to add custom effects and transitions. Audio signal processing capabilities include normalization, phase and pitch shifting, limiting, volume adjustment, reverb and equalization filters as well as others. Visual effects include options for masking, blue-screen, distortions, rotations, colour tools, blurring, obscuring and others. Configurable keyboard shortcuts and interface layouts. Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. Project files are stored in XML format. An archiving feature allows exporting a project among all assets into a single folder or compressed archive. • Here's how to watch the Xbox Games Showcase today and what to expect by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June games showcase week has been a packed one, with everything from major presentations like Sony and Summer Game Fest to indie-focused reveals coming in almost every day. Now, it's almost time for another big one, with Microsoft bringing its Xbox Games Showcase back later today. This is a double feature too, with a Gears of War E-Day deep dive also being attached to it. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is kicking off at 10 AM PT | 1 PM ET | 6 PM BST | 7 PM CEST later today, June 7. The event will be available to watch on the official Xbox YouTube (4K 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, Steam, Amazon Live, and other portals. Separate livestreams for American Sign Language and Audio Description will also be available. "This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates, and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share," said Microsoft about this presentation. With a new CEO behind it that is pulling off some interesting moves, Xbox may have some surprises to reveal today. New looks at first-party games like Halo Campaign Evolved from Halo studios, Fable from Playground Games, InXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution, Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward are to be expected here. We may finally get to see the new Blade from Arcane Studios in action and a new Persona game from Atlus at the showcase too. Surprise announcements may also arrive from other Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda, MachineGames, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Rare, World's Edge, or Blizzard. Considering how every new release nowadays is staying away from November and December to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI's release, any launch dates Microsoft announces will probably skip those months as well. Once the Xbox Games Showcase ends, Microsoft will immediately kick off the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. This deep dive into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition should attach gameplay footage and perhaps a release window to the highly anticipated project.
    • People in the '50s and '60s had the same attitude, and we're still here over a half century later.
    • So after some fiddling I was able to get it to run at a pretty stable 30FPS. I'm slightly surprised about how much fiddling I had to do to get there though given what I thought was reasonable hardware: Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics Memory: 16 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics Graphics Processor 2: AMD Radeon RX 7700S I think I could do it better if I use Linux rather than Windows, Windows RAM usage is stupid without stripping the system down. But once I got it working in a reasonable state, it was so awesome! I felt like a new Bond! If anyone has any advice to get things going a bit smoother FPS-wise, I'd appreciate it.
