Louisiana won't Recognize Same-Sex Marriages

So, you get to throw away 1/2 of your sacred book because it is outdated ?

How convenient

Actually in my experience, most christians, pick and chose and only throw away the old testament stuff they don't personally agree with and quote the ones that support their bigoted view frequently. when asked about the other ones, they merely say "jesus forgave old sins", and then they ignore you when you ask them about the ones they chose not to ignore from the old testament...

This!!!  My saying is Christians are only christian when its convenient for them.  Their whole belief system is fake, and is a tool to put others down and make themselves feel better.  Its changed so many times that the original meaning is gone.  Its insane that they think they have some sacred belief system, but its nothing but trash. The religious right is made up of either stupid people, or those who use religion to manipulate their followers.  Half of the old testament at least is ignored, and yet they chose to pick on gays relentlessly...Without their hate they have nothing.

That's too bad because Barack Hussain Obama professes to be Christian.

So does Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Since they are both full of hate, I won't support them.  Neither should you.
Both of them were against gay marriage before they were for it when it became politically expedient for them to do so.
HYPOCRITES.

I agree with both of you 100%

I simply dont understand how people can really think such a simple-minded book, which is so painfully obvious in its era-centric manner and knowledge, that it is some divine word from up on high.  There is nothing in those books that show evidence of divine intervention.  The books are so obvious in their Iron Age "wisdom", and so silly in what they valued and thought back then.  However, they pass it off and say, "our omniscient god, who is all knowing, all seeing, all everything" -

To steal from Sam Harris, this super powerful god, who has the entire universe to worry about, galaxies upon galaxies to contend with, and just so happens to be worried about 1 species of primates on 1 particular little planet.... lucky us.  And he cares how we marry, what we wear, and really cares about what we do when we are naked

It looks like Louisiana will step up to the plate and not bog things down in meaningless court proceedings -

I cant say the same for the "Great State of Texas"

A shame we are stuck in the bible belt.

christians only ones who are allowed to marry? no one else?

some people forgets other religions exists too?

Aaahh but you forget - every religion, every faith - thinks everyone else got it wrong - only they worship the one true god.

And they just happened to luck into when and where they were born that they get to follow the one true god - since when and where they were born is normally the deciding factor of what/how/who/why they will believe

Who said they where full of hate.

Religious bigotry and hatred is alive and well on Neowin.

Libs KNOW there is no GOD because that means there would be morals and values to follow.

Libs have none.

You don't need religion to have morals.  If you can't determine right from wrong then you lack empathy, not religion.

And honestly, there is more morality and empathy from the Liberals than from the Conservatives and from the "Christians".

I think you probably need to stop reading that one book and start living.

T

Actually, you said..

and I just told you that you don't need to have a religion or follow a god to have morals.

I am a Progressive, not a follower of the Christian God, and I have plenty of concern for my fellow man, good morals, and values, thank you very much.

I have enough to know that denial of equal marriage rights for SSM is wrong for many reasons.

I never said you did.

I think you should learn to read ANY book.  How I live my life is my business, not yours.

The real abomination here, seen over and over, is the self serving cherry picking of which things forbidden by the old testament are fine to ignore completely, and which ones to use to rule *other people's lives*.

Christians have a New Covenant with God.  Anyone who doesn't know that, doesn't know a thing about Christianity.

You will note that definition has been altered in recent times to include "two people of the same sex". That was never the original definition. Over the course of history, homosexuality has never been largely accepted so to think that they would have had homosexuals marrying one another would have been nothing short of a travesty.

Yeah, because that is what societies, laws, and people (maybe not you) do:

They evolve.  If we went through history only living a certain way because history deemed it so, we would be a very backwards society. After all, it was once an accepted practice to burn so-called witches at the stake.

You are more than welcome to find another country that governs by religion. I hear Iraq is lovely this time of year.

Wasn't the US formed with the ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

Forcing my way of life through religious ideals doesn't sound much like happiness or liberty to me.  I respect those who pursue religion. It is high time some of you start respecting those who choose not to.

As someone who is the child of missionaries, I can tell you that you should read up on this "age of grace" or "new covenant" etc, because the origins of this belief do not even reside in the bible. If you want to throw out the old testament, then honestly you must throw out the ten commandments. Most Christians already throw out the 4th with no proof. Also keep your religion out of the law and to yourself and no one will care.

There are many references to a New Covenant starting in the Old Testament in Jerimiah when he predicted a new prophet would establish the New Covenant. Its principles (commandments) are established in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and were consecrated by the Last Supper and crucifiction (sacrifice.)

Your post is full of stupidity. :woot:

Maybe you should inform your fellow Christians that insist on quoting the old testament to justify their beliefs.

As someone who has actually read the Bible and worked for a famous Christian organization I know what Christianity is based on.

The sabbath was changed to Sunday to honour Pentecost.  You didn't know that.

Keep your poor knowledge of the Bible to yourselves so I won't have to answer any more stupid questions.

No specific names or dates are associated with the church's shift from observing the holy day on Saturday to observing it on Sunday. At first, especially when many Christians were converted Jews, their holy day was Saturday. However, because the Resurrection and the beginning of Creation had both occurred on the first day of the week (Sunday), the church soon observed that day instead. (More Gentiles were becoming Christians as well, which contributed to a desire to shake off Jewish customs.) By the end of the first century, Sunday worship was the norm. We can assume the change caused some friction, for in Colossians 2:16 Paul admonishes, "Therefore do no let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."

Again, quotes, and do not list ones denominations argue about as it validates it as a truth in Christianity as a whole. My point is simple, Christians sects cannot agree on this subject completely. This is why so many Christians still quote the old testament for bigotry and dietary laws (such as the Seventh day Adventists, etc)

Yup, and show me were God authorized this change. Which is exactly my point. You think man can change Gods law when its convenient. As for Paul's quote, remember that this verse is not settled theology in Christianity taking all its ammo from it. But lets go with it shall we, so why are you not fighting against sorcery? remember this crime is in the NEW testament. What about getting drunk? its prohibited multiple times in the NEW testament. Their is a reason you do not discuss these things, and that's because you don't give a crap about the bible, but find homosexuals disgusting on a personal level. Again, I know this attitude all too well growing up in a religious household.

If you own a business you can refuse service to anyone on ground guaranteed through the constitution.  (religious freedom)

That may be how you wish things were but its not the case see Katzenbach v. McClung

    • NASA: This asteroid may not kill us but it probably won't be far off either by Sayan Sen Image by Zelch Csaba via Pexels New observations by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope have eliminated the last remaining impact threat posed by asteroid 2024 YR4, ruling out the possibility that the near-Earth object could strike the Moon in December 2032. NASA said observations collected by Webb on February 18 and 26, 2026, enabled scientists to refine the asteroid's orbit enough to "rule out a chance of lunar impact on Dec. 22, 2032." Instead, asteroid 2024 YR4 is now expected to pass the Moon at a distance of about 13,200 miles (21,200 km). The agency stressed that the update "reflects improved precision in our understanding of where the asteroid is expected to be in 2032 rather than a shift in its orbital path." The announcement closes a remarkable chapter in planetary defence that began in late 2024, when the approximately 60-metre-wide asteroid briefly became the most closely watched near-Earth object in the world. Discovered on December 27, 2024, by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, 2024 YR4 initially appeared to have a small chance of colliding with Earth on December 22, 2032. As astronomers gathered more observations, the impact probability briefly climbed to around 3%—the highest ever recorded for an asteroid of its size—before steadily falling as its orbit became better understood. By early 2025, international observations had ruled out any significant risk to Earth. However, astronomers were left with another possibility: a roughly 4% chance that the asteroid could instead strike the Moon. "The probability that asteroid 2024 YR4 will strike the Moon on 22 December 2032 is now approximately 4%," the European Space Agency (ESA) had said last year, noting that "there is a 96% chance that the asteroid will not impact the Moon." ESA said such an impact, while unlikely, would have presented an extraordinary scientific opportunity. "It is a very rare event for an asteroid this large to impact the Moon – and it is rarer still that we know about it in advance. The impact would likely be visible from Earth, and so scientists will be very excited by the prospect of observing and analysing it," said Richard Moissl, Head of ESA's Planetary Defence Office. "It would certainly leave a new crater on the surface. However, we wouldn't be able to accurately predict in advance how much material would be thrown into space, or whether any would reach Earth," he added. The asteroid also exposed an important blind spot in planetary defence. Because 2024 YR4 approached Earth from the direction of the Sun, it remained hidden from ground-based telescopes until after its closest approach. "We looked into how Neomir would have performed in this situation, and the simulations surprised even us," Moissl said. "Neomir would have detected asteroid 2024 YR4 about a month earlier than ground-based telescopes did. This would have given astronomers more time to study the asteroid's trajectory and allowed them to much sooner rule out any chance of Earth impact in 2032." He added, "As an infrared telescope, like Webb, Neomir would have also immediately given us a much better estimate for the asteroid's size, which is very important for assessing the significance of the hazard." The latest NASA observations underscore the value of space-based infrared telescopes in tracking faint asteroids. According to NASA, Webb made "among the faintest ever observations of an asteroid," extending the object's observational record by nearly eight months at a time when it had become too faint for other telescopes. That additional data allowed scientists to eliminate the remaining uncertainty surrounding its 2032 flyby. Although asteroid 2024 YR4 is now confirmed to pose no threat to either Earth or the Moon, scientists say its discovery remains one of the most significant real-world tests of the international planetary defence system, demonstrating how continued observations can rapidly transform an object once considered hazardous into one whose future path is known with high confidence.
