i was wondering with the next version of slipxp if it will be possible to have it use different shell folders instead of the default ones, (shell folders are the paths used to locate stuff like My Music, My Pictures,My Documents, ect..) i dont use the standard path, so if slipxp could set it up to use my path for the shell folders that would be great..

also i was wondering if ull be able to have slipxp setup other user accounts?

sorry about the site being down...

the WiFi router that im leaching off of decieded to stop getting an internet connection.

knowing the people that own the router, they forgot to pay their cable bill!!

i reupdated the sig to reflect the new WiFi router that im leaching off of now...

the site is crap and has nothing for SlipXP (soon to be renamed and logo-ed)

I am off to get my new car tomorrow and will be out all day.  starting monday

the site will be updated and a daily changelog will be implimented.

thanks for the patience!!

Darn neighbors eh?

@crackhbob

thanks for the link!! im going to try it out later this week.

I do not have a RAID or SCSI card to try this on, but im sure once i get a beta

going you can test it for me.

@FuzzyWuzzy

I believe the shell folders can be changed via registry entry. I will have to

hack my registry and found out which value i need to change.

as far as making seperate user accounts... im not sure if it is even possible.

first one would have to set the user type (admin, guest, etc), permissions,

user pic, etc. i will definately look into that for you.

shifty u were right it can be done by registry, no more need for the program that lets me change it :-p

after searching on goole i found where the registry was

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

now i have my very own shell folder registry file :D

also i was wondering if ull be able to have slipxp setup other user accounts?

You can add a user using this command in a .cmd file launched from cmdlines.txt:

"net user username password /add"

But that is hardcoded to your cd...

What I do allows more flexibility. I created a custom MMC that launches at the next logon, after APXP is installed and reboots. I can create as many id's I need and give them group membership there - it also helps remind me to change the default Administrator password (blank)

Lol, I should have read this thread before I posted elsewhere in the forum! Looks like you guys are doing exactly what I was talking about (with some minor differences).

So what about my thought of being able to add the programs I wish installed on a fresh install to the DVD and getting AP to run through RunOnce and give me an options screen where I can select the programs I wish to install from the ones on the disc? Is this in fact already an option that I have missed (it is a long thread, lol!).

Also, I assume this will work just as well with XP SP2 (I've got Corp SP2 Integrated RC 2.2, which I am gonna test out later)?

Cod1

Shifty may already be doing this with the next version of SlipXP, but I have a couple of suggestions.

1. You may want to use SetupMgr for the writing of the .sif file as it gives the user more customization of the file and also allows for encrypting the admin password which alot of admins like.

2. You could use CDImage Pro and make the XPCD directory into an ISO to make things easier for the user. The burning step would be as simple as burning the ISO created at the end of the process. Would require more space than the current process but I think drive space is almost not a concern these days especially if you're loading Windows XP on a system... haha

Just some thoughts, don't know if you're already working on something like this or if you'd even want to consider it.

All I have to say is WOW I have been reading over this stuff for the past few hours, and I can't WAIT to see where this project goes, I know that I for one will find this very useful since I have so many PCs with different configurations that this will have to go onto a DVD. Shift Please continue your progress and give us a update soon been nearly 10 days!!

hello all!!

sorry i havent been around lately...

I am in a transition from one job to the next.

I am expanding my career to High End A/V sales and installs for home and cars.

I will be moving to Maryland from VA and ditching my dead-end job @ dishnetwork.

Unfortunately I will have to suspend my work for a few weeks until i settle down and

get my life situated.

As for the website, my Wifi USB card is on the fritz!! it dies as soon as it hits the internet!!

my new home will have full time cable modem service and I will have a dedicated box setup

just for the website.

I have been monitoring this thread for the last few weeks and I have jotted down all the things on

the "wishlist". The list keeps growing w/o end. I will have to slim it down soon, to the essentials

and finalize the list and start another for future versions.

Im going to get permission to start a new section dedicated to StealthXP like APXP and move all

relevant threads there. I kinda feel bad that I am posting all my stuff in the APXP sections :(

I plan on making a weekly progress log on how far things have gotten and whats been added

and finished. this will help all of you see the "behind the music, err, scenes" on StealthXP.

will be checking this thread and responding, but as far as progress, unfortunately it will have to be halted...

keep posting ideas and comments! :D

[edit]

BTW i just made a beta install CD, w/ RC1 of SP2 *slipstreamed* and it works!!

Edited by Shifty

I too would like to be beta tester for this and have some ideas as well, but could you post a doc or e-mail me a copy of the features that it has, will have, or are planned, and others ideas?

Looking forward to seeing this evolvle and I will help in anyway I can I can even host a mirror if you want even though my upload is onlye 256kbps

Dijital

Here is a quick run down of what im working on so far...

The major issue that i have is size. not everyone has the luxury of owning

a DVD burner as i do. I have to make the base install of XP w/ APXP small

enough to fit on 1 CD. so far I have been successful @ ~600MB total.

This does not leave alot of room for extra apps to be installed automatically.

I have 3 plans:

1. All-in-One CD- XP, APXP, about 50~100MB of apps to be installed silently.

2. Double CD set- XP, APXP on 1st CD, all apps on 2nd CD.

3. AIO DVD, all the above all on 1 disc!!

I wil write my guide accordingly for each option.

right now, its all about drivers, drivers, drivers!!!

XP comes stock w/ about 80MB of genric drivers for KB, mouse, chipset, etc.

I have found a way to flush out drivers you dont need. I have tried on 4 different systems,

with all different hardware setups. of the four, two didnt work. there was a specific driver for a

USB card that didnt make it that is part of the stock drivers. the other was a few days later when

my roommate bought a crap printer and XP didnt have the drivers.

for the most part no matter what motherboard you have, as long as you have current motherboard

drivers, you can use it as a part of a custom driver install.

I tested it out by deleting all my stock drivers and added the newest NF2, Ati, soundblaster audigy drivers.

everything worked except 1 thing... the respective software for the video and sound card wasnt applied.

you would have to sperately install that, but hey you are lazy so im going to find out how to do that.

in the end as long as you have an active internet connection, you can go to windows update site and get

new generic drivers or get go to the respective manufacturer and get the right ones.

I have been battling this part of the project for the last 3 months on and off. its so hard to say the least.

i need some people that has various hardware different from mine... intel, nvidia, turtlebeach, etc. just

major components like mobo, video card, sound card, modem and nic.

email me @ [email protected]

i need your basic system specs AND links to those manufactures

thanks all!!

As for the website, my Wifi USB card is on the fritz!!  it dies as soon as it hits the internet!!

my new home will have full time cable modem service and I will have a dedicated box setup

just for the website.

My offer for hosting the site, not the files still stands, if you're interested.

So, as I saw in the screenshots, you're writing this application in C++ with MFC, a question, u implement the MFC .dll file in the .exe (min. 1.5 MB), or you make is separat? Why you dont write this application in C# or vb or even vb.net?

  • 2 weeks later...

This really looks good... one thing I would like to know is if I can incorporate my own registry tweaks (.reg files) into the streamed CD to be installed at setup?

I have a plethora of tweaks I use, some in separate .reg files. These include performance as well as security settings.

Thx, and when/where can I d/l the prior version(s). Or are you still Beta?

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
    • Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 by Razvan Serea Microsoft Edge is a super fast and secure web browser from Microsoft. It works on almost any device, including PCs, iPhones and Androids. It keeps you safe online, protects your privacy, and lets you browse the web quickly. You can even use it on all your devices and keep your browsing history and favorites synced up. Built on the same technology as Chrome, Microsoft Edge has additional built-in features like Startup boost and Sleeping tabs, which boost your browsing experience with world class performance and speed that are optimized to work best with Windows. Microsoft Edge security and privacy features such as Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, InPrivate search, and Kids Mode help keep you and your loved ones protected and secure online. Microsoft Edge has features to keep both you and your family protected. Enable content filters and access activity reports with your Microsoft Family Safety account and experience a kid-friendly web with Kids Mode. The new Microsoft Edge is now compatible with your favorite extensions, so it’s easy to personalize your browsing experience. Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 changelog: Migration to improved V2 architecture for Workspaces. Workspaces, introduced in Edge in 2022, allows users to create durable sets of tabs that can be saved and shared with others. In order to improve reliability and performance of this feature, the following changes are being made: Migrating data for saved Workspaces from OneDrive/SharePoint to Edge Sync service Removing the collaboration/share functionality of this feature For organizations who have disabled Sync through policy, the existing v1 Workspace data will still be migrated to the new architecture. New v2 Workspaces created after migration won't sync across devices and will remain local to each device. This update occurs on a progressive rollout beginning in Edge Stable v145 and will continue rolling out in Edge v149. For more information, see Getting started with Microsoft Edge Workspaces. Feature Updates Passkey Sync for Enterprise Users. Microsoft Edge is introducing support for passkey synchronization for enterprise users, enabling secure, passwordless authentication across devices. Passkeys created in Edge can now be synced seamlessly, improving sign-in experience while maintaining strong security standards. Note: This is a controlled feature rollout. If you don't see this change, check back as we continue the rollout. Enterprise WebView2 runtime downgrade via DowngradeVersion policy. Administrators can temporarily roll back specific applications to a previous WebView2 Evergreen Runtime version (N-1 or N-2) using the new DowngradeVersion policy in msedgewebview2.admx. The Downgrade Version policy allows enterprises to mitigate critical regressions by specifying per-application exe-to-version mappings. The Edge Updater installs the target version side-by-side, and the WebView2 Loader redirects targeted apps accordingly. Downgrades auto-expire with each new WebView2 release: apps pinned to N-1 remain on the same version (now becoming N-2) and will auto-update in the next release, while apps pinned to N-2 will revert to the current Evergreen version. The policy applies only to enterprise-managed devices (domain-joined or MDM-enrolled). For more information, see Microsoft Edge WebView2 Policy Documentation | Microsoft Learn. Collections retirement. Collections has been removed in this update. Users can no longer access or use the feature. To keep saved content, users can export it, or move all pages to Favorites before updating to Microsoft Edge Stable 149. For more information, see Organize your ideas with Collections in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support. Modern, unified, and updated Look and Feel. Microsoft Edge has updated the Look and Feel to give customers a unified experience across all of Microsoft AI surfaces including Copilot and Bing. This changes multiple elements of the UX such as spacing, corners, fonts, default colors, etc. Clarify choices surrounding third-party cookie settings. Language under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies are clarified to better describe the choices users have in managing third-party cookies. Custom primary password retirement. Users are no longer able to create a new custom primary password in Edge Settings edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings. Any users who are still using a custom primary password will be automatically migrated to device authentication. Additionally, the PrimaryPasswordSetting policy will no longer support the WithCustomPrimaryPassword option. For more information, see Keep your saved passwords private in Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Support. Unifying Copilot Chat policy controls. The Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled policy is the standard for configuring Copilot Chat. Previously, this behavior was controlled by blocking the Copilot extension, either explicitly or by using the * wildcard via the ExtensionSettings or ExtensionInstallBlockList policies. Extension and sidebar policies no longer affect the appearance or functionality of Copilot Chat. Copilot address bar suggestions were also tied to extension policy settings. Starting in Microsoft Edge version 149, admins can use the CopilotAddressBarSuggestionsEnabled policy to manage this behavior. Intune MAM Protected Downloads. The protected downloads feature for Intune MAM is now available for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) devices, which aren't managed by a tenant.
