i just with they stopped messing with the source material so much in star trek, you don't see disney buggering up star wars, changing everything.

^This!  I kinda felt like punching JJ Abrahms in the face after seeing he left Star Wars untouched yet pretty much raped everything there is about Star Trek.  Jerk!

finally someone who agrees, ep7 wasn't as good as rogue one but it still felt like a star wars movie. i don't think people can justify the 100% changing everything in the new star trek movies because it's an alternative timeline, it's still meant to be star trek.

and i don't say all that as some die hard trekkie, i have no toys, action figures or anything merchanise related, i only have the movies / tv shows on dvd, bluray. i just don't understand why the studio allowed such a bastardization be created and make it look worse than enterprise but also nothing like what we already expect from watching any trek movie or show. it's like saying, star wars is holy stuff, you can't change anything, only add stuff, but trek is fair game, all source material is garbage, start again.

boggles the mind.

Well looks like that type of mentality won out, I doubt there will be any additional JJverse movies sadly. It was a fresh take on Trek and it didn't alter the franchise due to the fact that the entire premise is set in an alternate reality. There's no permanent damage to the prime timeline and can be revisited at anytime. Trekkies and the like have complained since TNG was in its infancy. In fact with Discovery, we'll hopefully get a new infusion of prime content without them rewriting the books, and sorry, if you're about to complain about new make up and what not for klingons and the like, it's called staying current with modern filmography tech, it'd be outright ridiclous to watch a new trek with 60s sets and makeup. They didn't do it in the 80s, or 90s or 2000s and they certainly wont' do it today.

Personal gripe....  Yes lets schedule right after a football game   Anyone that DVR's it is going have to pad a hour or so to handle overtime and such.

Though in ST:Enterprise they did a good job of explaining the Klingon ridges :D

DS9 even touched on that subject with the tribble episode where they go back in time to the TOS era and see klingons, one of the best DS9 episodes.

Ah, I loved that episode, it was a nice bit of fun!

As for touching on it though...  Is the line "We don't discuss it with outsiders!" really touching on it? :p

Personally, I don't mind the incongruity with the ridges as I always accepting it was a makeup technology thing.  Roddenbury clearly always wanted the ridges but makeup technology and show budget just couldn't achieve it at the time.  When technology and budget was finally able to achieve it, we finally saw Klingons as they were always meant to be.

well it was more or less a nod to it, but yeah it was a budget thing back then, it's why they couldn't do many things fx and makeup wise. phase 2 would've been much better but the dumb networks cancelled tos and we got the movies instead.

Still, they could have let them look more like the Worf era klingon. They look more like the mutant crew from the last movie.. They look fake.

Hate to say it but it is also looking quite sjw and the "white man" is all but forgotten. Roddenberry was the first to be all inclusive and this just smacks in the face of what he did. It's going to make it hard for me to watch. I'll watch it though, for as long as I can stomach it that is.. I sure hope I'm of base but it's not looking good.

I would prefer to have seen Axinar in all it's glory, to bad that is a dead endeavor. Maybe a spin-off of it for a show. It almost seems that is were they got the timeline from though, I guess they figured with all the hype it got that would be a good place to go with this series. Makes you wonder what that lawsuit was really all about..

can't say axinar grabbed my attention, it seemed to fit in with all the other fan trek videos, somewhere between cringe and watchable.

Yeah but they had at least gotten enough money to make it look, professional-ish and had plenty of Trek veterans already signed on, and to do a story that hasn't been done yet (though I know Discovery is sorta doing that as well kinda?). Still, we will never know (unless Paramount changes course so to speak, pun intended heh) how the final Axanar project would have looked.

I just don't understand why Trekkies are angry over it? They literally were making profit/throwing large amounts of fan funding around on the Star Trek name. It'd have been shut down under any other franchise as well.

Because they're desperate for some new Trek, and as Paramount weren't bringing any until now, fan productions are the only other option. Also, Axenar DID look pretty good!

you know what, here's an idea, what what you guys make into a series if you had the power?

first i'd do a series set after star trek 6 which fills the gap between 6 & the launch of the enterprise b, then i'd do a series of the what happened to the enterprise b starring the captain from generations, then i'd do a series featuring the enterprise c which ends with a two parter where it goes through the rift, returns and is destroyed but would all be from the pov of the enterprise c crew and would guest star the tng actors in some brief re-created scenes.

finally id do a series that picks up where nemesis left off and continue the adventures of the enterprise e, tng actors would reprise their rolels plus introduce new crew / actors.

i'd call it Star Trek Legacy.

They would each be a mini series, to fill in what happened to the enterprise from star trek 6 to after nemeis.

one can dream........

I was pondering this earlier.  How about this:

A series where technology is discovered where you can jump to another dimension.  Remember the episode with 100s of Enterprise D's from different dimensions, season 7 I think?  Take that and expand upon it.  Give it something like it can't be mobile as the computational maths isn't there yet, so it's used in a stationary location such as a Starfleet HQ and you have to go to it like a Holodeck.  So you're exploring Earth, just in different dimensions where sometimes there are subtle changes, sometimes huge ones.

OK, it's Sliders.  OK it's quantum leap.  But it allows awesome stories, it allows plot points to be picked up and expanded on from existing Trek and it allows a different form of exploration.

Back in the day (you know, in the 80s lol) I used to write Trek scripts back when TNG first started up etc. There was this one episode named Conspiracy that was really good about this slug like alien species that invaded Starfleet and the Federation and took over humans (and other aliens I assume, don't remember actually, but I think a Vulcan captain was taken over heh) and was trying to seize control etc. It ended with Picard and Riker basically blowing up this adjunct to this Starfleet admiral I believe (literally blew his torso up, like wtf back then!) and then Data said at the end the aliens managed to send off a message something like "try again" or "come here" or something like that. I had this big whole thing where the species was tied to the Trill (but not the Trill) and this whole thing with the Romulans getting involved trying to help. So yeah, there is plenty of stuff they could go back to and re-visit or what have you again.

Wait, you're not suggesting you wrote it are you?

Anyway, the episode was WAY ahead of it's time, certainly for Trek.  Now we have the Tal Shiar, Section 31 and so on, it would fit in perfectly.

Yes, wrote an entire script and sent it in (and a sorta semi-sequel script I wrote as well bringing in the mirror universe version of the aliens who were hopping from one universe to another trying to stop them). I guess Paramount never liked it :D

probably the only tng episode that had a gory-ish death scene, something never repeated on star trek, was kinda raiders of the lost ark exploding head gory but not quite as cool looking.

You are suggesting that your script was used for the Conspiracy episode?  Blimey!

Oh no no, I wrote a continuation of the story where they returned lol It was a couple years after the 1st season episode at least.

According to StarTrek lore, it was meant to be an ongoing storyline that simply wasn't well received so was ditched.

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
