[Official] Star Trek: Discovery Thread

Recommended Posts

Well time travel has to come into the picture because of Emperor what's her name (I always forget how to spell her name lol) and the fact that she's on the Discovery in the future. She has to get back to the past for the S31 show, unless they are shelving that show that is. I bet the Guardian of Forever shows up in that case :D

Was just coming in to post this, looks good. I kinda figured they'd go with the whole "Federation is gone or diminished" future and the Discovery crew helps rebuild it somehow (only Burnham can do it though!).

They already made this show...

Sheesh... Can't CBS come up with ANYTHING original? First they steal some poor indie devs game ideas, now they're stealing Gene Roddenberry's ideas for another show!!

Yeah that's what a ton of people are saying in Youtube comments about it. But hey, the co-showrunner did an interview the other day basically stating that the Federation was still around in this future. But since she specifically didn't mention Starfleet, and Booker says to Burnham that she must believe in ghosts or something while pointing at her Starfleet comm badge, it would seem Starfleet is the thing that either went bye bye, or broke off from the Federation or something else. But the Federation is definitely not what it used to be, if that Federation flag is any indication. Several of the founding "big" planets are gone along with some of the smaller planets usually depicted on the flag.

Nah, if you tie it in with that season 2 short trek of the guy in the future; the Federation is ancient history too...

Well, true, but that also took place even further in the future, and that future was (probably) changed by Discovery's actions by going to the future. I still think they will tie that short trek together with the main show somehow this season, but its going to be weird explaining things like the Federation when Paradise herself said the Federation is still around in the new time Discovery is in. I still say Starfleet is the one that's gone, or maybe there was some sort of split after the events of Picard coming up that'll we will see play out next year. Who knows really.

CBS/Viacom must have high hopes.  Season 3 hasn’t even aired yet and Discovery has been renewed for a 4th season, https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/star-trek-discovery-quietly-renewed-season-4/

I haven't checked, is the CBS and Viacom deal done now?  If so they might have plans to link everything back up with a season 4 if season 3 doesn't do it.

I think the federal regulators need sign-off, but looks like a done deal, https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2019-12-04/viacom-cbs-merger

Yeah, well then as ST is one of their big IPs they'll have to bring everything in line again now that they finally can.

Bring what into line? Discovery may skirt canon but it hasn’t shattered it.

Not thinking about just Discovery, the movies as well.   Plus any little differences we've had to have till now can go away again.

Well, it looks like CBS has great confidence in Discovery.  It's already been renewed for two more seasons; 5 intotal, https://thegww.com/exclusive-star-trek-discovery-renewed-for-season-5-at-cbs-all-access/?fbclid=IwAR3VbrX0W-k-ihGfYyPwtyayZjEioTlCaZCBwEJqpgoWAkc3cWP6vcumxsg

That's pretty big news, i suppose they have big plans now that CBS and Viacom are one.

Hopefully :D

Its a little interesting/concerning that season 5 might be the last being they are filming seasons 4 & 5 back-to-back which typically is unusual.

It is for tv series but I think if they have it all written out and planned out then this is the best thing to keep costs low for those two seasons.  Saves time and money to film back to back, which is what movie studios do from time to time.

Interesting episode.  Federation is no more, dilithium is gone...and a quest to rebuild the Federation.  First episode, did not see any of the main cast except for MB.  So shall see how the next episode goes

You DO realise that they're just recycling the plot to another Roddenberry show, Andromeda, right?

Does not matter as long as people enjoy it.  Especially if people have not seen Andromeda.  Lots of ideas are recycled these days anyway.

And that's part of Discovery's problem.  It doesn't have it's own story to tell, just ones already told and recycled. Admittedly season 3 so far is turning out a bit better than S1 and S2, but that's a pretty low bar to beat...

A lot of movies/TV shows recycle the same old ideas.  Very little new story content these days.  So Discovery is not unique to this.  I try not to think to much on things when watching something and just enjoy it.  Think to much and pick it apart, I will not enjoy it.
