Ok Dear Members!

Wish me Luck! I'll return with flying colors!

The Greatness of XP have made me commit a (if I may call it) Suicide!....the risk is worth trying!

Can there anything be better than seeing out things in 800X600 resolution? It is more to experience than to comment.

Fiddling with Win XP is like - Snow-skiing! No Roadblocks, No drags...just Smooth sailing!

Legacy Products indeed have a fair share of Admirers! Iam one amongst those.

Wish me Luck!

There are specific linux distro's designed to be small and light, these are just a few off the top of my head.

Dear BudMan,

Lubuntu has been tried already! Its 'Drag'were similar to that my default OS---Windows 8.

My earlier machine with P-IV on it were used to run much Superior with Win XP in comparison to the Modern DUD (HP AIO + Win 8).

I wish to bring back those 'Golden' XP days to my Life!

Wish me XP Sunshine! :-)

Maybe the machine just blows??  Did you ever think of that? heheheh

What I can tell you for FACT is XP is not going to run better on newer hardware that is for damn sure..  Maybe its your network connection and has nothing to do with the OS?  What exactly do you think is slow?

edit: from that spec page you linked to, it only has a 10mbit nic - wow, yeah that would be lik watching paint dry trying to do anything over the local network or shoot most users internet connection.  You still on dialup?

What to do mate..!? Multinational HP has sold me a rigged PC! Layman like me only explore the evident parameters before buying a machine such as----Size of Hard-disk, Amount of RAM, OS etc. & ya ofcourse the Budget!

It cost me >Rs. 26000/- or > $520.

Certain fine aspects such as -- "Windows Experience Index", "Benchmark score"..etc. are realized at a much later stage!

The principle of Reduce, Recycle & Reuse have made me consider a viable & a much cherished option of Win XP.

Won't you help scour the Right drivers to sustain the Legacy's legacy?

No I am not going to help anyone try and run XP (15+ years old) on somewhat current hardware.  It is completely pointless.  And not secure at all..

What exactly is your problem with the box running the OS it was designed to run?  Its slow?  How is it slow - it has a 10mbit interface if your trying to download from the internet if your isp connection is anything above 10mbps your going to be watching paint dry.

That came with a amd e1-1500, this release early 2013 I believe.  So yeah somewhat current, but it is not a high power cpu it was designed for use in netbooks and such.  So it didn't have much umph out of the box..  What are you expecting to do with it?

Your best option would be to run the OS it came with and tweak that as best as possible.  Those AIO don't normally allow for much expansion so I doubt you could replace the ###### 10mbps nic that it has (usb dongle prob only way).  Its wifi is abysmal as well 2.4 with 1 stream..  So you could prob get 30mbps real world out of it if all the stars are aligned.  Which is pretty crappy as well - but would be better the 10mbps nic the spec sheet you listed say it has.  You could use a wifi usb dongle to update that as well I guess.

If your unhappy with its performance with the OS it came with after tweaking, your next best option would be to use a lightweight linux distro - this is going to be your best bet for driver support. Outside of what HP has provided.  But the thing is never going to scream..  You sure are not going to be play any sort of modern game on it.. Prob do fine with minesweeper ;)

Your prob best thing you could do for performance of the OS would be to use a SSD.  I would assume you should be able to do that much.

No, you just made a bad choice on a machine.  The E-1500 was meant for netbooks when it was new.  It's not meant to be a speed queen, just for basic internet access and word processing. In fact it's not that much more powerful than your older system.  I suspect you think it feels faster because it was what you were used to , not that it actually was faster in reality.

You keep digging a deeper hole, not listening to what people are telling you.  You should have made sure you had XP drivers available before you even started. Find someone in your town with more knowledge to fix the mess you made, or call HP and buy the restore DVDs to fix it.

Dear Members,

I would like to proclaim with a Great Relief that I have been able to install  Win XP on my HP AIO Desktop PC with success!

This Message is getting posted out of Win XP only. It were just about finding the first hit i.e. an accurate Device driver for the Ethernet Controller & the rest proved to be a 'Cakewalk' via plethora of Free Software Apps available out there to find the remaining missing Drivers.

Everything is all set!..& only a few hiccups are to be addressed now.

Will the Dear Members help me?...Atleast now?

Hello BudMan!

Its showing 100Mbps already with  Win XP & it used to show the same value for my default OS as well!

Nevertheless, I appreciate your Time & Effort in this regard.

I have been able to install the Great Legacy version with success & is posting this Message from within it!

Now its only about finding the Right drivers for my Sound Card & all set!

Keep me motivated...

Hello ryokurin!

I have achieved what I have always wanted..! i.e. to relish the experience of XP on Modern-day AIO configuration.

"Silky-Smooth" is the experience that can Best be described right now!

Iam so Happy to make this transition to the Great Legacy version aka Windows XP.

Thanks for keeping me Motivated all throughout. :-)

Your PC's processor is quite weak. You might think XP is running fast now, but it's going to get slower and slower as you install programs.

Also, your computer has 8GB of RAM, which half of it is now not being used at all, because XP is a 32-bit OS.

It is highly recommended to install 64-bit windows 10, 8.1 or 7 on your PC.

What's your PC's EXACT model? There might not even be XP drivers for some of its parts.

As for using a single HDD partition; bad idea. IMO, there should always be a second partition for storing user files, like photos, documents, etc.

If you ask me, just sell your computer and get a better one. This one is going to be slow, no matter what you do. You say you paid Rs. 26000 for it. I don't know why you thought such a cheap PC is going to be fast.

The link you provided says 10mbps

nic.jpg

And yeah eddman is right, your not going to get more than your 4GB of that 8GB you listed you had..   Unless you installed XP 64bit?  Which had loads of problems..

Silkysmooth - yeah sure..  ROFL...

haha XP that's funny.  I know there were bugs in some versions of 8/8,1 that made them a little hard to work with until they were updated (Which in itself could be a chore, though now it should be considerably easier) but going back to XP is a horrible idea.

Hello eddman!

You are absolutely correct to point out on that aspect. But you know what....these 2.58 GB are proving to be of Greater worth than expecting a similar performance out of a 8GB RAM on Win 8 or Win 10.

Afterall...it has more to do with my Personal experience rather than making even a wholehearted commentary over this transition.

My PC's exact Model number (& have indicated that many times as well..) is HP AIO 18-1206in.

Its actual specifications can be accessed via >> http://bit.ly/2cYNdea .

2GB RAM from factory defaults were Upgraded to 8GB & yet the actual Outcome didn't turn out to be as anticipated!

& Lastly, installing 32-Bit OS over 64-Bit CPU architecture were a 'deliberate' decision to reap MORE out of the System resources.

Given the current trend...even 16GB of RAM would prove inadequate & insufficient in the time to come!

Files which used to size in mere Kbs have now turned into mammoth MBs against the newer OS versions!

Full Anti-Malware Scans which used to last barely 15-20 minutes are now taking forever to complete in the 'More fancy' versions!

Where are we heading to?

Impending Sunset is what Iam able to foresee for this era of Over-Consumption!

Thank you.

Dear eddman,

Significant progress have been accomplished at my end towards installing 'nearly' all Device drivers!

Can you please help with this Last one?

How to spot this 'Other' device?

Could these be missing drivers for USB 3.0 interface? I have those 2 in the left hand panel of my AIO & yes, none of these are able to detect the plugged in Flash-drive thus far...!

Inputs will be appreciated! Help me toss this last impediment! :-)

Thanks.

That's ah... not how it works...

in fact, 32 bit programs will often run FASTER on a 64 bit OS, due to how it maps memory and soe technical stuff.

if XP runs faster than 8 or 10 on your system. it's because you completely screwed up the install and system set up. which frankly, I don't think is to unlikely.

and you won't find any tech forum or site, supporting legacy" OS. they're not safe and they're horrible on resources, NOT better, despite what you think. Also upgrading software has zero to do with the use and throw culture. . maybe if you talked hardware, but you're not.

as for AV sizes and scan speed. actually AV sizes have gone down isnce XP era, and scan speeds have icnreased as engines have been more optimized at least if you use proper AV software and not some of  crap ones which are worse than not using AV.

You'll also find that any file that's grown in size on newer OS' will either be bigger on XP, or you're talking abvout fotware, and they will be just as big on XP today when you install them since it's the software that's grown and become more advanced and bigger. you seem to confuse the OS files and processes with third party programs a lot in this thread.

XP certainly can NOT reap more out of system resources; quite the opposite. It is fast, I'm sure, but it won't stay like that for long.

The trend is stable. Even 4 GB is quite enough for day to day tasks. Only very heavy applications require large RAM pools, or if you multi-task with a large number of programs. I have 8 GB of RAM and it's overkill. I only got it for games.

Files becoming bigger has nothing to do with OSes or their bit type. Besides, you can still find many programs with small setup files.

Malware have become more sophisticated too, so as a result anti-malware software needed to do the same, with more in-depth scanning algorithms, etc. in order to counter that.

On the contrary, windows XP is actually worse than newer windows in using resources, be it multiple cores, RAM, etc.

Windows XP had bugs too. Every OS has bugs. I remember people having a lot freezing and BSODs for a while after XP's debut

If we were to stick with legacy no matter what, then we would have still been using DOS. Software always evolves. It must, if we are to have better and more powerful applications.

Just to give you an example; I'm using an 8 YEARS OLD computer with windows 10 and it seems to be running better than before. It has a Core 2 Quad processor. I used to have a Core 2 Duo but I'm sure even that would've worked fine for basic tasks.

If you want to use XP, that's fine. It's your choice. Whatever works for you.

As for that driver, try here: https://www.google.com/search?num=50&site=&source=hp&q=AMD+USB+3.0+Host+Controller+xp+driver&oq=AMD+USB+3.0+Host+Controller+xp+driver&gs_l=hp.3..0i22i30k1l10.1331.1331.0.1802.3.3.0.0.0.0.164.391.0j3.3.0....0...1c.1.64.hp..0.1.163.0.4y8ceCL8jqA

I do remember when 7 and Vista was new a lot of people saying they both felt slower than XP.  In reality, they were reacting to the visual effects that both OS's had.  If you turned off the "fade in/out of windows after clicking" they were perfectly fine with the newer OS's performance.  Of course it's too late for him to try that now...

Anyhow, as for OPs USB 3 problem, I don't believe anyone made a XP driver for USB 3.0.  The most he could do is to get them to run as 2.0 ports, that is if the bios gave the option to allow it.  Chances are with it being a low in HP it probably wont.

I would like to conclude this Topic by thanking you all & I have realized that finally!..that Multiple-Processes within the Task-Manager aren't the attribute of an OS.

This latest observation proves your Expertise! :-)

But let me spend some more time with XP till I feel any perceptitible reluctance to shun its use.

Thank you.

PS -  Will soon post an Update on USB 3.0 drivers.

    • I'm not unblocking my camera for this crapola. Sorry, Google.
    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
    • Just another reason (aside from many others) not to use Edge. Firefox 153.0b5 DEx64 has a similar feature added recently in prior builds that I will turn off at some point when I get around to it. It's the new "Something looks suspicious" page that pops up here and there. It cleverly hides itself between web pages that I've actually visited; as a result, you know, of selecting a web page and telling the browser where to go. The interesting thing is that it does not produce these warnings from pages that I, as the only intelligent user of the browser in my system, have ever directed the browser to open! What seems to be happening is that the browser looks at all the goofy ad links on a web page I do actually open and selects one that "looks suspicious" and then creates the "something looks suspicious" web page, which is neatly inserted, as mentioned, between web pages my RB ("real brain") has directed the browser to load in a session. The thing is, I usually look at links I am considering to follow before I ask the browser to load them, and in cases I have noticed where the link does indeed look suspicious, most of the time I will choose to not follow the link at all. Doesn't everyone do this or something similar? I am picky about what I voluntarily load... (I don't like links that start off fine, with a site designaiton that seems normal enough but then is followed by indecipherable alphanumeric strings many, many lines long, etc. I tend to reject those because they look suspicious. They may not be, but I don't care... I'll stay with Firefox, of course, if for no other reason than they usually let you turn off the junk you don't like. And because it isn't Edge... But at some point Microsoft will come to realize that putting your bookmarks on the left side is a Good Thing for a lot of people, just as Microsoft discovered when it had the bright idea of nailing the Windows taskbar to the bottom of the screen, when for decades Microsoft browsers had left that placement up to the user. They have finally reversed the obscenity of that decision. Finally.
    • Google was using the old CATPCHAs data to train their LLMs. What is the say they won't use this camera data of users to train their LLM? these companies need some strict regulations!
