Should I keep these?

I'm currently in a backup project and I've got ALOT of old software. But should I even make ISO backups of theses old software? I've got old versions of Visual Studio, every Office back to 98, every Windows os back to 98 SE.

Have any of ya'll come across a situation where you needed an old, OLD, version of these software? To help someone or you personally needed it?

Space to back these up isn't a problem. It's just the time. For example Visual Studio Pro 6 is 5 DVDs. It's going to take a long time to rip copies of everything.

I attached a picture of a few of the things I have, to bring back memories of the old school geeks around here, lol.

NO, not everything, but if I dont use it all the time - its gone.

For instance, if you are cleaning out trhe garage or attic and came across a box of old computer stuff you forgot you had- look at it for 5 minutes, do a little walk down memory lane - then chuck it!  you were getting along fine without those things you forgot you had

So you're going to keep them anyway. Make ISO's in case the original media gets scratched or damaged. Then put them back in the dust-filled attic, and be done with it.....for 20 more years. One day, your grandchild will enjoy the stories you had to tell. /endthread

I yeah I ended up making ISOs of some games that I knew I couldn't get anymore, KISS Psycho Circus, haha I loved that game.  Most of what I had is available on STEAM now.

A number of years ago, a UK-based anti-malware company was being sued over a patent and was looking for prior art to invalidate the patent.  They reached out to me and I sent them some old versions of software from the US-based anti-malware company I worked for.  I'm not sure if it was particularly helpful, but as a token of thanks, they sent me a backpack, mouse pad, and some socks branded with their logo, in addition to a site license for 10,000 workstations and 1,000 servers.  I never ended up using the latter, but it was very thoughtful gift.

While I think I fall into the older geek category for sure.. I remember installing dos from floppies, and how many floppies windows was.. Shoot I use to load up programs from tape, etc.. While I never actually used punch cards - I for sure know what they are and have seen them, etc.

 

While I have some old crap laying around, the only reason its laying around is I am too freaking lazy to throw it out   Looking at cdrom rack on my desk I have quake III arena staring at me..  Should really throw that out.. Maybe I will do that this weekend..

 

I see no need of keeping that old ######.. Just don't.. Yeah this weekend is clean up my computer room...  Got some old floppy disk drives sitting on the shelf - wtf do I need those for   Yeah time for a good old fashion clean this ###### up party...

Computer parts, software, accessories etc. do pill up quickly. Especially if your the de facto IT guy for your family and friends. I mean I had several DELL Windows install CDs because a part of my family loves Dells but I'm always the one to fix them, lol.

 

I suppose it's like my tools and parts. Along with being a computer geek I'm a gear head and handy man. I have lots of tools and parts that have come in handy at some point, whether if it was for myself or helping friends or neighbors out.
