Sky Glass TV brings Sky without the need for a dish or box

Sky has announced the launch of Sky Glass, a new TV with Sky built into it. This means that customers will not need to buy a dish or a box to receive Sky channels. According to the firm, this makes it the only TV on the market with Sky built-in, making it a good choice if you want to reduce the clutter around your TV.
The new Sky Glass will be available to purchase in the UK from October 18. It will cost from £13 a month over 48 months if you decide to split the payments or you can pay all in one go. The company doesn’t say how much the cost is if you buy outright but £13 multiplied by 48 is £624, so expect prices to start around there. Additionally, there are three models: Small 43”, Medium 55” and Large 65”.
Adding to the cost, customers will also need to take out a £26 per month contract for Sky Ultimate TV, luckily, this contract renews every 31-days, giving you flexibility. Sky Ultimate TV will give you Netflix and Sky Entertainment, if you decide to pay £70 a month you’ll also get Sky Sports and BT Sport, and if you pay an extra tenner, you’ll get Sky Cinema added in too.

The company said that Sky Glass will debut in its other European markets from 2022 but it didn’t provide pricing details for those markets. In terms of the specifications, anyone picking up Sky Glass will be getting a great TV. It features a 4K Ultra HD Quantum Dot screen (10-bit HDR) that supports HLG, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. The Sky Glass can also adjust the sound and display based on what you’re watching and Zonal Technology help produces darker darks and brighter brights.
Sky Glass also supports many TV services that people have come to expect including Sky, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Disney+, ITV Hub, All4, Spotify, Peloton, PlayWorks and more. Comcast and ViacomCBS announce SkyShowtime streaming service

Comcast (the parent company of Sky) and ViacomCBS have announced a new streaming service called SkyShowtime that’s set to launch in 20 European markets next year. It will feature content from SHOWTIME, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+ Originals, Sky Studios, Universal Pictures, and Peacock spanning all genre types.
SkyShowtime will launch in Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. Interestingly, there’s no mention of the UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, or Italy in that list; those countries are set to receive Paramount+ next year instead.
Commenting on the launch of the new streaming service, Raffaele Annecchino, President & Chief Executive Officer of ViacomCBS Networks International, said:
Similar to the Paramount+ offering, SkyShowtime will feature for than 10,000 hours of content for subscribers to enjoy. SkyShowtime will be set up as a joint venture between Comcast and ViacomCBS giving them equal control. More information about the pricing of the service will be announced closer to the launch.

Paramount+ set for European launch in 2022 under new deal

Sky has announced that it has formed a new agreement with ViacomCBS to bring the Paramount+ streaming service to its platform in European markets including the UK, Italy, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Upon the launch next year, it will be included in the price of Sky Cinema or as an add-on for other Sky customers.
Commenting on the availability of Paramount+ in Europe, Stephen van Rooyen, Executive VP & Chief Executive, UK & Europe at Sky, said:
To access Paramount+ when it becomes available, Sky customers will need to access the app through Sky Q and films from Paramount+ will also be available directly from Sky in the UK, Germany, and Italy.
Paramount+ will also be available direct-to-customers in the aforementioned markets through the Paramount+ app on Android and iOS as well as on supported connected TV devices and OTT platforms. Sky says it will announce pricing and the local content offerings as the launch approaches but it did say there will be more than 10,000 hours of new content for customers to consume.
Sky re-brands NOW TV and introduces NOW Membership

Sky has announced that it’s re-branding NOW TV with a new name and look. From now on, the service will simply be called NOW and NOW Passes have been replaced by NOW Membership which begins at £3.99 per month, just like Passes. According to Sky, the new and less convoluted name aims to reflect the simplicity of the service.
Sky’s NOW service offers several NOW Membership offers refined for what you want to watch, they include Entertainment, Cinema, Sports, Kids, and hayu. Each of the Membership options can be enhanced with a £3 Boost each month which enables streaming across three devices at the same time in full 1080p HD and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.
Commenting on the re-branding, Marina Storti, Managing Director at NOW, said:
The re-branding will begin in the UK before being adapted and rolled out in Italy, Ireland, and Germany. In the UK, the re-branding has already gone live on the NOW website.
