Police have blasted the 20-year-old student for the 'dangerous stunt' after he entered the River Medlock, on Pritchard Street, in the early hours of Thursday morning

 

A muddled student jumped into a river while trying to locate his university halls, sparking a huge rescue operation.

 

The 20-year-old man, who police say was a student, was seen on a wall next to the River Medlock, on Pritchard Street, at about 1.30am on Thursday morning.

 

He was heard shouting he wanted to get into his university halls.

 

GMP say that a security officer from a nearby car park tried to coax the man down - but the student swore and then jumped 20ft into the river, where the security officer lost sight of him.

 

He continued to shout abuse from the water while the security officer attempted to help him...
