Computer Stolen!

Recommended Posts

I'd be more ****ed about the data. Everything else can be replaced, albeit expensively (since you got screwed with insurance)

DarkCircuit...2.1k is fast broadband? Sounds like 1/30th of normal dial-up to me :p

yeah my f***ing computer got stolen yesterday   it was a

Pentium 4 3.0C

Abit IC7-MAX3

2x 256 Geil PC3200

Radeon 9700Pro

2x80GB ATA 133

16x DVD

4x Multi DVD-RW

M$ Keyboard

Skyhawk Matrix Case (400 PSU)

5.1 SBLive

yeah awesome

Well, look at the bright side. Now you get to build a whole new one. And work out the bugs. Then you can install everything clean from scratch, and work out those bugs... and redo all your settings.. and start a new software collection---.... wait just a damned minute!

THIS SUCKS!

I think its time someone invents a tracking device for PC's. I've been down this road and I know how it feels. Mine was never recovered. :(

They have. There is software that will "somehow" survive even a format, and notify a company when the computer connects to the internet.

Though I don't know much about it. If you're really worried, build a GPS device into your system. :)

It wasn't practical for me to back up my data for the most part I mean I had like 70-80 gb of stuff. I spent all my money getting this computter so I didn't have enough to tget a spar 80 gb drive to back it up.

yo, I don't think that 80 gigs or so is too much to backup. seriously, you can get one bigger than that for under $100 today.

Anyhow, I feel ya. Some people are trying to comfort you by saying you can build new machine, etc. Haha. I say the data is infinite times more important. I have over 500 gigs of data on my rig right now, half of that I can probably kill over if I lose. (Total storage... I am almost hitting TB ^_^)

Yeah, why aren't you filing a police report etc?

Do you have backup nomis?

I have backup in the form of RAID 1 instead of RAID 0, but that won't help if some ###### steals the PC. I decided to do that when I heard weird noises from my HD and decided I'd been without backup for too long (because it's a pain with 200 GB of stuff)

i have 3 copies backed up of my work..one the main original then another copy on another hdd then 3rd burnt onto cd kept away from my pc.. ;)

so it is recommended u keep work backed up on a cdrw or dvdrw.. :(

200 GB = 300 CD-RWs

I mean backup in the sense of, my hard drive goes kaput, my data isn't lost (unless they both do, but that is unlikely).

I'm not terrilby worried about KGB spies stealing or hacking my data ;)

As for theft, I have my tower kensington-locked to my desk, so unless they saw through it which is possible, but unlikely considering that there are more valuable things that are easier to get to, I'm not terribly concerned.

lol..i have loads of stuff too thats why i had to get a 160gb hdd..but all is backed up.. my main work only takes 6cdrws, for apps etc from the net it takes 3cdrws..

now im getting a dvdrw. so should be less discs in volume. :D

what i meant to say was backing up the "really" "really" important stuff onto cdrw.. but i do understand what u mean.. :)
