well i just talked to my dad anyway... hes a lawyer here in MD and he says this isnt a case of bait and switch.. its a unilatteral mistake... bait and switch is when they say they have it at that price but really dont and try to lure u in to buy something else thats more expensive... what they did was unintended and they dont have to honor ur order...

since your dad is a lawyer to MD, perhaps he might know about VA laws too...

im hope you all live near the beltway!!

well all i gotta SAY is nice find.. when you found it.. but ****!!! I WANT ONE...

ANYONE HERE WHO GOT A 160 gig for 30 bucks ill pay 50... thats still a deal in my books

so.. msg me if you wanna sell..

correct me if im wrong, but isn't that what they did? Their website said they had hard drives at that price, but if they dont honor the orders then apparently they didn't have it at that price, so we have to "buy something else thats more expensive" to get what we ordered. If they get off because it was unintended then couldn't any other store bait and switch, and then say it was an accident?

dont shoot the messanger

Everybody check your order page, because I did...and saw this:

160GB Western Digital Caviar WD1600JB Special Edition - Hard drive - 160 GB - standard - 3.5" - ATA-100 - 7200 rpm - 8 MB

Western Digital Caviar WD1600JB Special Edition - hard drive - 160 GB - ATA-100

In Process: 0

Canceled: 2

Shipped: 0

They didn't even e-mail me!

I bought 2 160's for $42 @ 19.99 each

my bank says I have a $42.47 charge pending

now if ubid cancels the order and says they made a mistake there shouldn't be any problem

but I've dealt with ubid before and it wouldn't surprize me if:

1. they first charge my card for the order, and then say they made a mistake, and say they will refund my money

which might take them a couple of months.

I purchaced a stereo reciever from them once that came to me broken. it took more than two months to get my money back for that.

now you are wondering whats the point?

the point is if they charge and cancel the order and keep your money for a month or so they make a lot of money on interest

or

2. they bump up your fee from the $19 to $150 that is now posted

either way ubid is commiting fraud, and this isn't the first time

when they have your money and boat loads of people to give you the run around they sit in the power seat

after being burned by them before I was hopeing to get mine back, but something tells me they just made a sucker out of me twice :(

mine got cancelled too... :(

just the 8MB cache one...

my other 2 are still "in process" what that means is that they are "in process" to be cancelled!! LOL!!

i wouldnt be surprised if they get cancelled at this point.

so far my opinion of ubid is that they bad bad lahrds!!

[edit]

i did make 2 seperate orders... since the first one was for the 8MB cache it was easy to cancel it.

like an hour later after checking my account and depositing a crap load of holiday money, i decieded to

buy 2 of the 2MB cache ones, that one still isnt cancelled.

if they dont cancel it by midnight they have no choice but to ship it!!

also i will be filing a complaint w/ the BBB if the 2nd order isnt shipped!!

im glad i put mine on 2 seperate orders!!

also at this point if you got your order cancelled you should join a real alliance w/ a true purpose!!

b;lah... mine got canceled as well... I'm getting on the phone with them right now... I'm ****ed... they shouldn't be able to just cancel an order without contacting the customer... I have recieved no such email yet.

I will let you guys know what goes down.. I'm going to threaten to post on the BBB site about them and tell people to steer clear of their site.

i would call and threaten to call the BBB and the attorney general.

and also tell them you are a member of a l33t forum w/ 40,000+ members and they will raise a fuss

and tell all their friends not to buy from Ubid!!

i will personally do that if both of my orders get cancelled.

i'll also tell them that i will tell major IT news websites like theregister.co.uk and the inquirer about this

travesty and give Ubid a bad name and reputation. i'll even tell who ever i talk to go get a newspaper

and look for a new job!!

well, honestly, since they issued reciepts... I don't think they can legally cancel an order without contacting the customer. Their phone line is busy, but as soon as I get through, I'm going to advise them that they have ****ed off quite alot of people in just canceling our orders with no word, and that if they do not honor the deal, that I and you guys will all contact the BBB and advise others to steer clear.. surely a site such as neowin would be able to draw business away from them if we all told everyone we know to not buy from ubid.

if anything i have the email addresses of top dogs w/ theregister and inquirer.

if this doesnt get resolved and my orders are totally cancelled, im going to call in too and complain

i work for dishnetwork so i know about customer service and responcibility!!

wait til i tell them im from VA and they pulled a "bait and switch" on me!! its illegal!!

sirEvan,

those werent reciepts... they are confirmation emails, it just means "hey, we got your order and we are processing it"

its like going to the grocery store and having the checkout person scan your items no transactions have occured.

a true reciept in this case would include an itemized bill, total amount, and payment confirmation.

useing neowin as a discussion board is one thing, but I don't think you should mention neowin to them at all

on the reciept there is a link to bizrate plus some links in an earlier post for rateing etailers, and the BBB

if all else fails you can cut the electricity to the town that is hosting the ubid servers

    • This is needed! Good to see them working on it. My solution up until now at work is to hide all MY folders, showing only the shortcuts, but linking my personal folders to the corresponding Libraries. Having this exposed in the Navigation pane of File Explorer means that I have easy nested access to my stuff, as well as all the shortcuts under the OneDrive folder when needed, often open as I only have about 10 or so linked sources.
