Three supporters of white supremacist Richard Spencer have been arrested for the attempted murder of protesters near a Thursday event in Gainesville, Florida, city police announced in a statement. Colton Fears, William Fears, and Tyler Tenbrink were apprehended at 9 p.m. Thursday; William Fears is 30 years old and the others are 28. All three are residents of Texas

In a coincidence, two of the men who were arrested spoke to the Gainesville Sun before the shooting. Said William Fears to the newspaper: “Us coming in and saying we’re taking over your town, we’re starting to push back, we’re starting to want to intimidate back. We want to show our teeth a little bit because, you know, we’re not to be taken lightly. We don’t want violence; we don’t want harm. But at the end of the day, we’re not opposed to defending ourselves.”

Another unhelpful side is ANTIFA, it being classed a domestic terrorism threat since 2016. By the Obama administration.

Demonstrate in the public square, yes.

Make noise, yes.

Disolay provocative signs, yes.

In doing so be violent asshats who commit wanton destruction, mayhem, arson, assault and violate the free speech rights of others? No!!

I was going to respond with only 3?! But really for the hundreds of thousands who protested peacefully you have these 3 asshats who ruin it for everyone else.

3 acceptable protest activities and a group of criminal acts.

And let's be clear here, there aren't hundreds of thousands of members of ANTIFA. Like most fringe radical groups they have a core membership who calls for a demonstration, and then when a bunch of casual sympathizers appears you have an infiltration group which goes in and causes the trouble; assault, battery, arson, property damage, etc.

No different than fascist or Nazi brown shirts.

In so doing they are surrendering the moral high ground to the very extreme right people they are protesting, so long as the rightists can maintain their composure.

There are already people in the liberal mainstream who are  aghast at what ANTIFA is doing because it is hurting their cause.

And they were declared a domestic terrorist threat by a Democratic Administration not a Republican. This was done in April 2016.

Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous, so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO.

>
Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI.

You're making a distinction where there's little difference.

Terrorism: "the use of violence and intimidation in pursuit of political aims”.

No one in the current US political environment, except possibly BAMN and the violent neo-nazi groups, fits that description better.

They have become what they oppose.
