You stopping asking your questions has actually contributed to the decrease of activity, with fewer active topics and replies, of course it's going to get worse, so why contribute to that?

I stopped posting because I was not getting any help/replies.   Got to the point where I was talking to myself.

I agree with the OP, the site is becoming more and more commercial (a bit too much sponsored content for my taste). I know it has to make income but still it is moving away from the users. I joined neowin almost 10 years ago and read it for a lot longer (came from another site warp2search) but nowadays don't read the news or visit the forums too much.

Neowin has always been consumer-side technical discussion site that was MS centric, as MS continues to fumble in this market, something has to take it's place and still drive hits. As a member for over 16 years (jesus) I've seen all sorts of things, but the sad fact is, Microsoft discussion continues to become less relevant in today's world. There's of course all sorts of other technical directions one could take, however popularity lacks in many of them, and certainly won't bring the hits or revenue.

Not to mention forums have taken a back seat to google searching, social media, etc...

I definitely agree that the politics section is a giant sewer of people whining about Trump.  It's easy to ignore though.

What I'm pretty disappointed with is the increasing amount of it that's finding it's way onto the front page.  I come to this website to read about technology, not somebody's political agenda.  So I totally get why the OP has been turned off.  Politics has turned into a giant hate war, so Neowin should be ashamed to allow more and more of that to be presented on the front page...

Where has this “bias” entered the front page?

Sorry, I was writing tech news https://www.neowin.net/news/bad-blu-life-one-x2-update-encrypts-and-locks-people-out-company-silent-on-fix ... But I would just say, giving up is weak ;) Just keep trying give us a chance if you care to :)

What is weak is a site that does not address issues.  And if people post topics and do not get a response, then they will look elsewhere or go to a different community that is active in what they want.

There was a time I did keep on trying...but since lack of participation, I take my time and effort elsewhere when it comes certain things.

Ermagerd, he made one post....to say he was leaving...I....I just can't...

On a more serious note, political discourse is what stops the world becoming governed by autocracy. So..uh...buhbye.

Touché at this point. Seems whatever I respond with isn't good enough for you anyway, plus you seem to be getting proved wrong by the very fact more people care enough to reply to you about this too.

What issues exactly?

Sure, there are heated political discussions every single day, but those can easily be ignored.  And main news consists of mainly tech-related news.  The days of million threads about blu-ray vs HD-DVD are gone, people move onto different topics.

I said replies in tech forums.  I did not say the whole site.  And I am not the only one that things so either or things the site is becoming less tech focused and more about political/country issues.

And we are having a discussion.  It is not about being good enough for me....just when a site admin posts an image like that...well, I expect that from normal members not a leader of the site when bring up things or trying to have a simple convo.

There have been several articles on the front page about the Twitter thing.  Yet another one popped up today.  It doesn't qualify as a tech article just because it involves Twitter. That topic has been nothing but a political circus, and the one today is just bait for the lefties to start cheering for the guy.  Just look at the comments.  They're purely political and it didn't take long for it to get emotional and hostile.  Again, it should be embarrassing to have that on the front page for any visitor to see.  Plus as a multi-national website, people outside of the USA should have very little care or interest about what's going on in the US political system.

The problem here is that the article is about a major political figure. It's clear from the OP that Mark is fed up with politics. It's tech related, sure. But it covers controversial content that not everyone is clearly fond of. The comment section probably doesn't help its case either.

So? Controversial content? Tomorrow Trump shows up in public using a Windows phone and Neowin is not supposed to have an article about it? I am guessing Mark is not so much feed up with politics but that Neowin is not posting articles all about Trump's "accomplishments", how smart he is, and the progress on the "wall".

I felt the same about the gaming forums, except for the biggest games/products it was crickets.

I mean, y'all know this isn't my main forum anymore, but as much as you wish I would I can't leave.  :D

Don't get me started on those Windows Phone articles. It's a dead platform.

All I'm saying is, the reader was not happy with the increase of articles containing things relating to politics. Looking at the recent article, you can see most the commenters focus more on the political side of things than the tech side of things. We don't know Mark's political views nor should we care. It's a tech site for crying out loud. Articles with a tint of politics get the views and probably the revenue, but it loses some people because it's not what they expect.

Seriously, I can't believe the fantasy Pollyanna world some people here want to exist in.

There actually is not enough politics on the front page of Neowin. Things in the tech world can now impact politics more than politicians! To ignore this is irresponsible.

We live in a unique period of history where the leader of the most powerful country on Earth is either senile or deranged combined with aspirations of banana republic petty dictator and unprincipled money grabbing for his family's financial empire and he has the nuclear launch codes.

Any entity that claims to exist in any sort of leadership role (Neowin for example) has a due diligence responsibility to not stick its head in the sand but instead provide guidance and comfort within the context of their area of leadership to acknowledge the situation and give people a voice in order to help comprehend the enormity of the situation.

Facebook, Google, and Twitter have primarily been singled out as not just tech companies peripheral to the political world but as fundamental perpetrators of the current problem in a deeply complicit manner. They are just the tip of the iceberg and keeping an eye on how and where tech influences things is important.

All of the main tech leaders met with Donald Trump and attempted to engage their agenda with him and subsequently disavowed themselves due to Trumps racism re Charlottsville. Elon Musk had a large role and now no role but you can be sure he thinks about this, worries about this and perhaps has a project or two in mind. If Elon Musk visits Neowin will he see a community that is engaged and helping the tech world come to grips with its responsibility or will he see a bunch of oblivious "see no evil" tech monkies?

The tech world was complicit in creating the situation the entire world faces today. Ongoing inspection and a watchful eye on the industry and encouraging a sense of accountability to creating complex social network computer code and cloud architectures that can cascade out of control or be abused by any governmental organization should be an editorial focus at Neowin if we want to be relevant in today's culture.

I think most of us can agree that we go elsewhere if we want to read about politics. There was a time Neowin made a great effort to keep it all in one place. It's a shame that is no longer the case. Nowadays it's leaking out and causing the site to lose out on some readers & members.

A tech site should not be attempting to influence people's political views, any more than politicians should attempt to give recommendations on technology. Everyone has different strengths and areas of expertise, and just because a person or group is a leader in one field, it doesn't follow that their views should be given addtional weight in other unrelated areas. (No offense meant to @Steven P. or anyone else involved with Neowin. While I'm the go-to guy for tech in my family, I certainly am not an authority about politics. My opinion is mine, and should not be given more value than anyone else's.)

I want to read about technology not about what politician you hate or what policies that have basically 0 influence on what this site is about you don't like, goodbye Neowin and thanks, i hope you achieve your goal of becoming the next buzzfeed-like site.

I know what you are saying. I use to come here everyday and now I come here like once every 2 weeks. To me it's not about politics but they chose what they want to report and what they don't.

I am not discussing general politics. In fact "general politics" is retro politics.

The tech world affected the election directly and profoundly in ways that your limited view of traditional politics could not.

The forum for general discussion should stay where it is as a venting outlet for members.

In this thread alone there is much confusion being exhibited between "Neowin Forums" and Neowin's editorial and news content. How tech is impacting our world in many ways including politics is so obvious as one of the vital components of the entire spectrum of Neowin content that this debate would puzzle any questioning and engaged mind.

    • Apple has clarified Series 9 was left off the watchOS 27 compatibility list by mistake.
    • Signal accuses UK government of using child safety as cover for mass surveillance by David Uzondu Recently, the UK's Home Office announced a sweeping set of proposals to make Britain the "first country in the world" where children cannot share or view nude photos on their smart devices, an initiative that authorities claim will protect children from online predators and combat pornography. In response, Signal believes that while the government must keep children "safe" and "protected," it should do so through social services and education, not by "surveillance, funding cuts, and cover-ups." The company called the plan "dystopian" and warned that it violates everyone's fundamental right to privacy, arguing that scanning on the presumption of nudity will only strengthen the market dominance and data control of giant corporations like Apple and Google. The statement continues by accusing the government of hiding its true intentions under the guise of child safety. Signal argues that the Home Office is building an invisible surveillance infrastructure that remains ripe for exploitation by future administrations and authoritarian regimes. According to the company, this aggressive approach completely ignores the actual needs of young people, such as properly funded schools and mental health services. Tech companies like Apple and Google have a three-month window to implement these mandatory device-level filters across the United Kingdom. If these tech firms refuse to comply with the mandate, the government will pass emergency legislation to force them to comply, threatening massive fines and even going after the CEOs of these companies with criminal charges. The technology will work by blocking explicit images directly on the operating system of all smartphones and tablets by default. This system monitors the device camera and third-party apps to intercept nudity before anyone can upload or send the image. Adults can still view explicit content, but only after completing a strict age verification check to unlock their devices. Several bodies like the NSPCC and Barnardo's praised the Home Office's decision, arguing that device-level intervention stops the cycle of grooming before it starts. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) also supported the policy, claiming that tech companies can implement on-device checks "without threatening privacy or collecting any data."

Speaking of building PCs, these are hard times to make one for sure as prices are often very high except during flash sales or discounts. If you are in the market for a 1080p gaming PC then Nvidia's 8GB RTX 5060 Ti is currently on sale for just $330 and you get the latest James Bond game too, for free. Speaking of which, right now there is another incredible sale going on as we can get a free 512 GB NVMe SSD from TeamGroup in the form of the G50 alongside the purchase of an AMD B850 socket AM5 motherboard for only $150 (purchase link under the specs table down below). Getting an AM5 motherboard now in 2026 will be a wise investment for sure, especially since AMD confirmed its commitment to support the socket till at least 2029. The MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI is a micro-ATX motherboard that is compatible with AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors. Since it is AM5, the motherboard works with DDR5 memory and includes MSI’s Memory Boost technology, along with EXPO and XMP support. Connectivity features include built-in Wi-Fi 7 paired with a 5G LAN solution. The board offers a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot with MSI’s EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II thermal solution, that is said to help maintain SSD performance by providing ample cooling against overheating.
