Pulled trigger on new nas..

Recommended Posts

So my esxi host getting really long in the tooth... 6 years this month.. HP N40L microserver.. Its still running, and prob got some life life still in it...

But got the expense through the budget committee (wife) this afternoon ;)

Went with the DS918+, also got 2 WD black 256GB m.2 for cache, the extra 4GB of ram for it and a extra 4TB disk.. I will be moving disks from the esxi host over to the new nas.. The 4TB will give me room for easy migration..

Looking forward to playing with smb3 multichannel, since got the new 28 port switch a couple months back so I have plenty of ports to play with.. So hoping to hit 200MBps file transfers from my desktop to the nas after all setup.

Showed up today... Copied over a 10GB file.. Solid line at 113MBps... 2nd nic for my pc will be here tmrw, then I can try out the smb3 multichannel - lets see hit 200MBps on a file transfer...

Going to take a bit to copy over the TBs of media... But got plex up and running on it.. Sofar pretty impressed with it, lets see how it can do VMs will be a bit later.

with the gui copy almost had no time to get a screen shot..  Over 200MBytes per sec.. That is slick...

I can live with that.. And 2nd nic for PC only cost me $25 ;)

So really have not had time to go over sniff of smb3 multichannel as of yet... But did another copy while sniffing on both interfaces..  So sent another gig test file and you can see that about half and half was sent between the 2 different interfaces..

So my box has

192.168.9.100 and .101

While the nas has 192.168.9.10 and .11

Pretty slick ;)

Ok had missed this in the sniff, did a reconnect to the share and can see where it negs smb3

Wireshark still lists it under the smb2 framing..
