I've given you constructive advice, but all the time it's can't do that, can't do this, I can only do it this way. I'm also not Danish, I have already told you that I'm from the UK.

My general question was about 1 thing. Which OS would you recommend using on this HPE hardware. You gave advice on pretty much everything else, totally off topic. I've checked 4 times and this is still the titel and still my question. I wanted to know if people have experience in using this hardware with which OS.

 

As sad, recently I didn't have time to install windows 10 on it, but i've already googled, for some people drivers are a problem. But also read that the prototype of this had no problems with windows 10, so might be that the final product had some hardware changes in between. I will confirm once I've installed it.

 

BTW. ESXi was working fine on it, but as people recommended, if not really needed, then it's a cannot shooting at pigeon, so that why I've changed to rather use rather a barebone OS. Also the Marvell RAID is not support in ESXi, which is a bummer. :( Or did anybody manage to get RAID setup in ESXi?

I understand that the original point was "Which OS would you recommend" but I did answer on the fact that you would have issues no matter what OS you installed on the device.

 

I hope this does not come across as being rude or offensive, but you do come across as a novice and the HPE hardware are not for novices, that's why I recommended it might be a good idea to look for hardware where you could easily install an OS without having all these issues to deal with. It's called the KISS principal (Keep It Simple Stupid)

So I have the older Gen8 and have a similar set up to you. 

 

Disk 5 has the OS and the other 4 are in a RAID config. It is a bit of a pain to install, because you have to install a few drivers before hand and then go into the regular Windows installation. 

 

Looking at your use cases (file and media server) this is what I do and have no issues with the Windows set up and it's stable as hell. 

 

I used Home Server Show a lot when looking at issues - https://homeservershow.com/forums/topic/10769-problems-installing-windows-10/ for example has some good tips on how to install Windows. 

 

With regards to VPN and VLAN...not really my domain so can't comment :)

A lot has changed since the Gen8, the Gen10 is way more problematic and the link only refers to Gen8, for Gen10 see: https://homeservershow.com/forums/forum/201-microserver-gen-10/

Don't worry, i made the same mistake, because bought it right away, shortly after release I've managed to get one for 200EUR and thought it's a bargain, because the Gen8 is even more expensive. ?

You must have had your Gen10 for a long while now then, as it was released back in July 2017

      Latest Rufus update improves new Windows 11 install method by Taras Buria Pete Batard, the maker of Rufus, a very popular app for creating bootable Windows (and other OS) media, has released a new beta version of its app. Rufus 4.15 beta is now out, and while it offers no new features, there are all sorts of improvements and fixes, including for the new Windows 11 installation method that was introduced in version 4.14 in early May. The "Silent Windows 11 installation" is a new feature whose goal is to automate operating system installation. All you have to do is boot from the drive, and then Rufus takes over, doing all things for you, such as setting up a new account, skipping ads and prompts, and more. It is a very handy tool, but initially, it had some bugs and issues that required addressing. With version 4.15 beta, Rufus is fixing that, particularly a bug with installation failing at 75%, crashes on Snapdragon X-based PCs, and more. Here is the changelog: Rufus 4.15 beta is now available for download from its GitHub repository. If you have never used Rufus before, you can check out our guide here.       Microsoft fixes one of Excel Copilot's most frustrating limitations by Usama Jawad Microsoft began integrating Copilot into Excel a couple of years ago and has been upgrading it with new functionalities since then. While some changes have been controversial, Microsoft is hoping to win over users by allowing them to be more productive via Copilot. To that end, it has now announced a Copilot improvement that may actually be appreciated by people who use it regularly. Excel customers often use the Copilot prompt box to issue instructions to format and customize their data, but it can become quite tiring to keep repeating the same instructions again and again. Microsoft now allows you to define Copilot personalization rules for formatting, naming conventions, formulas, and report styles. These can be accessed via Settings > Personalization, where you can explain your rules in natural language like "Always format currency in USD with no decimals", and just let Copilot take care of the rest. Microsoft is going a step further in this direction by allowing you to set workbook rules too. These rules are stored as a .Rules sheet, and are preserved while the workbook is shared. This fosters collaboration while making sure that standard rules govern the Copilot editing experience across the organization. Other advantages of this capability include pointing it to specific examples, defining dynamic formulas, and referencing an entire sheet and asking Copilot to infer rules based on that. You can leverage this feature by opening Copilot in Excel, clicking on "+", and selecting Create workbook rules. If you have an existing .Rules sheet, you can simply start listing the rules in column A as well. Personalization features are available to all Copilot in Excel users across the web, Mac, and Windows. Meanwhile, workbook rules are currently being previewed for Windows and Mac customers on the Insiders channel. General availability is scheduled after a few weeks, but a concrete date is currently unknown. Overall, the Excel capability is quite similar to ChatGPT's memory features, which allow you to permanently store items in the AI model's context window.

      This sounds like underneath the nice marketing spin, either someone at Adobe got tired of their lazy devs and asked Microsoft to help them sort at least some of Adobe's ancestral spaghetti code to make it go faster, or Microsoft wanted Adobe's crap to run better on Windows to make it look better when compared to Apple, so they offered to intervene. Either way, GOOD.
