The courage from apple to introduce iPhone X home button add-on with Touch ID and headphone jack

Recommended Posts

Courage, to take away features and then ask consumers to pay for them...

Apple is about to release something that people have been clamoring for ever since the first wave of iPhone X leaks last year – a physical home button! What’s more, the new home button add-on will also have Touch ID, which is sure to appease those who dislike Apple’s face unlock tech.

Measuring in at 29 mm × 30 mm × 3.9 mm (1.1 in × 1.18 in × 0.1 in), the home button add-on for the iPhone X is about the size of a 4th gen iPod Shuffle (remember those?). However, unlike the Shuffle, it’s not built from aluminum, but the glossy, white plastic that Apple uses in all its power cables and accessories. The only exception is the button itself, which is covered in glass.

The iPhone X home button add-on plugs into the Lightning port of your iPhone X, but fret not, as it has a Lightning port of its own and a 3.5mm headphone jack to boot!

You know, if the adapter were the width of the phone so it looked seamless, I bet people would buy an actual product like this.

The article was from yesterday. But I guess Gup didn't see it or have a chance to post it then, so he's sharing the fun now.

it would need to clip on in some fashion otherwise that's just asking for the lightning port to break off...

lol all the same, thought this was real for a moment

yeah I saw that mentioned in the comments of the source article.

That device is real but it doesn't have the headphone jack or TouchID.

Yeah, that was part of the reason I was saying it would need to be the width of the phone - it could clip on and be a seamless addon. Or perhaps even part of a phone case.

But then you couldn't use it as a passthrough for charging ...
