Comparing knife laws to that in the US is like comparing apples to oranges, entirely different scenarios and causes.

Why? Because both countries are remarkably similar when it comes to urban populations and age demographics. Just because the comparison is unflattering to the US doesn't mean it isn't valid.

Another product of the "I deserve participation trophy" generation. Soon we'll also have airport type security wherever we go, shopping at the supermarket, getting gas etc you name it, and it will all be controlled by TSA types like these:

I feel sad for those that lost their lives and those that got injured and traumatized, but maybe we shouldn't be lying to people who clearly need help by giving them participation trophies and allowing them to own guns (or make it easy for them to procure). He shot people up because he lost a video game! :/ We read about this crap all the time too with domestic violence reports due to confiscated xbox's or rage quits etc..

From reading some news reports and social media, it appears it was known this guy had some screws loose, with one "announcer" from a previous event allegedly claiming that getting him to talk was like "pulling teeth".

"Soon we'll also have airport type security wherever we go, shopping at the supermarket, getting gas etc you name it, and it will all be controlled by TSA types like these"

Unfortunately, you are more than likely quite correct in that statement. :(

Unbelievable that there is so much of this stuff happening now a days.

The rise in violent crime in the UK is a result of police cutbacks. As for knives, it is already illegal to carry them in public if they are above three inches. It's also worth pointing out that knife crime in the UK is significantly lower than that of the US. So what is your point exactly?

Let see, no I'll keep civil fingers for now. . .?

And the reality of failure, In this case I wouldn't be surprised if the kid snapped at failure and a few others being sore winners, that coupled with the social media pressure of being a big time gamer

Political system is different. Law Enforcement is much different. We have much larger non-urban populations. Did some research and according to the US census in 2010, the US non-urban population (60.9M) alone is nearly the size of the whole UK population 65.6M.

Different culture in many ways. The US rejected the basic structure of the UK government some 200+ years ago.

It's not about the absolute number but the percentage of the overall population. The urban population of the US is 82% compared to 83% for the UK, which is about as close as one can expect. As for different political systems, that's exactly the point - we see similar demographics but the United States' political system is failing to protect its citizens.

And in general we have an independent streak about 5 miles wide.

I am seeing the same there, just different kind of problem: Knife Deaths.

You may say the volume of deaths is less, and it is by the very nature of us being a much large country (5x), but so many people say any death is too much; well you guys got some problems too. Maybe you should work on your own violence issues before telling us how to solve our own?

Not that it's any of your business, but...

We tend to allow people to protect themselves if cops aren't immediately available.l

Also, the US spends well over 50% of its national budget on social welfare and health programs, and the states spend even more. That it's spent inefficiently is often a case of too much govt. interference, not too little.

Military: 16%.

Rush Limbaugh falsely claims Jacksonville shooter part of Trump ‘Resistance’

In an attempt to find a motive behind a deadly shooting at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., some conservative commentators misidentified the assailant as part of a political opposition movement against President Donald Trump.

Syndicated talk show radio host Rush Limbaugh went a step further, predicting the story would quickly vanish from headlines because the mainstream media is wary of publicizing stories in which "the resistance is taking up arms"

"I’m thinking you might not hear very much about this Jacksonville shooting after the preliminaries because it appears that the shooter was part of the Trump 'Resistance'," Limbaugh said Aug. 28, two days after two died and 10 others were injured in the incident.

But Limbaugh’s claim is based on erroneous reporting, which has since been retracted.

Gateway Pundit identifies wrong Reddit user

Limbaugh’s comments were posted on his website, which linked to a story on the conspiracy-minded site Gateway Pundit.

The original headline on the Gateway Pundit article read, "Jacksonville Shooter Was Member of Anti-Trump ‘Resistance’ – Referred to Trump Supporters at ‘Trumptards’ – Murdered 4 People."

Gateway Pundit identified the shooter as operating with the Reddit handle "Ravenchamps," which posted comments critical of Trump and his supporters.

However, the actual shooter’s Reddit handle was "Ravens2012champs," according to NBC News. TMZ reported he also used the name "RavensChamp" — one letter off from the user identified by Gateway Pundit.

Gateway Pundit has since removed references to the wrongly identified Reddit user, and issued an update that says, "An anonymous Reddit user was mis-identified in an earlier post."

The Gateway Pundit article now carries a different headline that strikes any reference to the shooter’s political leanings: "Jacksonville Shooter Had Strange Online Profile and Bizarre Playing Style – Murdered 3 People (UPDATE)."

We searched through articles about the perpetrator and found no evidence the shooting was politically motivated.

The only gun that should be legal for sale to civilians in the US should be a .22 that is designed to only accept a short magazine that carries 4 bullets, and is designed to  require 1-2 minutes of effort to remove and reinsert it so that it takes awhile to replenish the magazine each time its depleted -- like a series of latches that must be pushed in a specific pattern to remove, further anyone owning such should be required to prove that they actively hunt with it and require renewal every quarter. Also, a wireless camera should be installed in the gun that records each time it is fired, with a fingerprint sensor in the trigger. This data transmits over a 4G modem, the gun must be charged in order to be used otherwise it keeps the safety on electronically.

Authorities including licensed therapists should be able to disable use of the firearm wirelessly, which would permanently engage the safety electronically (the safety would be electronic and mechanical instead of purely mechanical).

The gun should also have GPS and the owner should be required to register the address or addresses that the gun will be at 90% of the time or more, so that if it's stolen or is trasferred illegally authorities become aware of it immediately.

Do these things and incidents like this will be far less numerous.

Also, a psychiatrist should be able to request a lifetime ban for one of their patients owning anything that has a primary use as a weapon, such as hunting knives, blowdarts, crossbows, etc. Where upon violation of this order the patient is immediately taken into a secure residential facility until they are no longer deemed a harm to the public.

Also, anyone owning a firearm should be required to submit to annual, and in some cases bi-annual psychiatric screenings. If they are determined to be on the antisocial personality disorder* spectrum (sociopaths) and/or demonstrate psychosis, they should be required to surrender their firearms.

* - Note, that this does not refer to people who are loners / shy / etc, in this context it refers to sociopaths, people who are unable to feel empathy due to a pathological defect - for males this is often accompanied with homicidal ideation.

Ah. So you want to torture the things you're hunting with that .22 instead of killing them. It doesn't sound very humane to me, but whatever.

As for the rest...? You're delusional if you think that will actually work in the US.

Umm, good luck getting that implemented in the US. As a matter of fact, the 2nd Amendment exists for the very reason there are people & governments like you who think firearms ownership should be that highly restricted.

Did you know that Venezuela recently banned gun ownership and then a few years later had no problems gunning down protesters of that horrific socialist government since they had no ability to defend themselves?

Quote directly from the article: "Since April 2017, at least 163 pro-democracy protesters in Venezuela have been murdered by the Maduro dictatorship. Venezuela serves as an example of how gun prohibition can sometimes encourage gun crime."

....

Pretty much stopped reading there and skimmed the rest. If this is the first of your many unrealistic solutions then we are not going to agree on anything.  I am for making sure a person is mentally fit, but most of these ideas just marginalize getting to the root cause. Rules are more lax when I was a kid. I am more interested in what had changed., why only male shooters, and why from a certain age group?.  But no one wants to do the real work here or even talk about it. Easier to place blame on the tool used

Dont forget that most, if not all, of these shootings could have been avoided if the warning signs were taken seriously and people did their jobs.  Meaning FBI, local police, people doing background checks......

This is either satire or ravings of mad soy man, I can't tell.

The real solution here is to identify, track, and promote abortion of the mentally ill.

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.5.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk.
