It's mask selfie pic time

Recommended Posts

We have a member pics thread somewhere, but I thought it would be cool if we had a pic promoting mask wearing.

If you have a face mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic, post a selfie!

This thread is not intended for discussion for or against mask wearing, although you can leave a comment as to the reason you wear one.

If you do not have a mask, or are against wearing a mask I ask that you kindly refrain from posting in this topic, you can start a discussion on it elsewhere if you really want.

Anyway it is intended for a bit of fun.

In The Netherlands you must wear a mask on public transport, and as I needed to use public transport a couple of months ago, I bought a washable mask and used it for that purpose. Mask wearing isn't compulsory in the grocery store though.

Even a mask can't contain the beard I've grown.

Here in Switzerland it's pretty relaxed, I guess. We've got to wear masks when using public transport, and when walking into a building. Strangely, if you go to a bar or restaurant you can take it off once you are sat down. Then again, how are you supposed to use their services with a mask on?

You don't look like your avatar! :D

Quick selfie before a + COVID patient a few weeks ago... missing is the gown which I put on right after.  The double mask is to help protect the N95 ... since they are still somewhat hard to get.

    • A team of scientists in Japan shattered the record for the fastest internet speed by developing new fiber optics. Researchers in Japan say they have set a new world record for the fastest internet speed, transmitting over 125,000 gigabytes of data per second over 1,120 miles (1,802 kilometers). That's about 4 million times the average internet speed in the U.S. and would allow you to download the entire Internet Archive in less than four minutes, according to some rough estimates. This is also more than twice the previous world record of 50,250 GB/s, previously set by a different team of scientists in 2024. To achieve this new speed — which has not been independently verified — the team developed a new form of optical fiber to send information at groundbreaking speeds over roughly the distance between New York and Florida. https://www.livescience.com/technology/communications/japan-sets-new-internet-speed-record-its-4-million-times-faster-than-average-us-broadband-speeds
    • I absolutely hate the thought of using it for any work, whether personal, or work (sensitive info. or not)..
    • Surprised there's no comparison data between running these new AI apps on your standard home PC, vs. CoPilot+ PCs armed with that really nifty NPU. Albeit it... there's a thought running that this particular app/option doesn't require the need for moving over to new hardware.
    • Is it expensive though? I mean all but base model Civics/Golf GTI (no more Golf sold in US) have smart key entry. Heck the base Civic has push button start. It's a very low cost option or package/trim away in most standard manufacturer models (Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Subaru, VW)
    • Tesla and Waymo are racing to build their own robotaxi empires, but not everyone is convinced the hype is justified. A new report from analysts at HSBC found that the potential market for driverless taxis was "widely overestimated" and warned that it could take years before robotaxi fleets began returning a profit. In a Monday note, HSBC analysts suggested that the idea robotaxis would be more profitable than their human-driven counterparts was based on a misconception. Although robotaxi operators do not have to worry about the cost of paying a driver's wage, they said that driverless taxis face a slew of "overlooked" extra costs that would likely cut into profits. https://www.businessinsider.com/dont-believe-the-hype-around-robotaxis-hsbc-analysts-say-2025-7
