People who carry cash, don't trust banks. What you call flashing is more often than not, someone getting money out to pay for something.

I knew a guy who sold pot "got sent to the big  house recently for selling close to a church" and he always flashed a lot of money.   There is something to say that unsavory people do carry wads of cash around.  Tho, I would argue that they are all unsavory or morons.

I just wouldn't lump everyone together. I carry 500-1000 when on vacation. Its certainly not everything I have, nor am I scumbag. But I've had my debit card stop working when out of state (stupid bank fraud protection), and its not a good feeling when suddenly you don't have any access to money. Or worse, are forced to use credit. You have to pull out your money to pay...its not flashing.

No one carries that kind of cash anymore and if they withdrawal it for a purchase only an idiot would be flashing it.   You are correct there are people who don't use banks... Small time drug dealers or people hiding their cash because not paying child support.

I am not sure why you would carry that much money on you while on vacation but I would assume you are not flashing it around. You are missing that detail of my previous comment.

I carry a few hundred on vacaton.  Even tho things may be down/offline,  I can normally find a cash machine close by that works.  I also carry my wallet in my front pocket.  Makes it harder for pick pockets.  I would rather have my checkbook than cash anyway.  If a check book is stolen, I can call the bank and put a hold on all checks like when a debit/credit card is stolen.  If cash is stolen, pretty hard to get that back.  Most places still accept checks.

You are missing my point entirely. Unless you know the person carrying cash, you cannot accurately lump everyone together like that.

As for me, this is true. Nor is it for you to know why...aside from reading the reason I gave in my post ;)

I keep it in my front pocket too.

Yes, would not be smart flashing it out in public.  But if you do it and conceal, not an issue.  Lots of people accept cash since it is in hand over credit.  Like I just sold a car a few months ago.  255k miles and was 12yrs old.  $1100 in cash.  Cash still speaks to a lot of people and lots of private transactions not drug related still use cash.  But walking down the street and displaying what you have, not smart and I have seen it done before.

I know the people in my community...  Scum bags  like to flash their money but they don't really have any money. It's a thing...

I read your reason but it didn't make much sense. What's the problem with using a credit card while on vacation? It's just not smart to me being a tourist carrying a lot of cash and I am guy who looks like someone you don't want to mess with but still wouldn't do it.

It is smart to keep the wallet in the front pocket (phone in the other front pocket).

I don't use credit. I hate it, and if I don't need to, why should I? It doesn't have to make sense to you.

I can see you saying that about people in your community, but you are saying everyone. Its not an accurate picture.

OK LOL Debit cards also exist.

It's well known cash use is way down in recent times so a lot of people carrying significant amounts of it around seems unlikely.

Again, I am taking about flashing it with like a money clip. A wallet can conceal your money much better... My wallet has two cash sleeves so if I were carrying a lot cash the bulk would go in one and a $20 or two in the other.

Ok...go back and read what I said now instead of skimming.

My wallet is metal and has a money clip because there is nowhere else to put it. Again, it doesn't mean they are being douchey flashers.

I keep a hundred in both of my vehicles...just in case.  Have a little in my wallet.  Mostly swipe the credit card for the good ol' reward points.  Usually the only time I use cash is when I make a really small purchase...like a snack or whatever.

We really need a "Love" emoji, I mean I don't just like what you said, I love what you said about keeping money in your car. So I just use the Thanks Emoji as I feel it's a level above like. Also why is there no thumbs down but instead goes straight to a face palm?

Rarely for actual use but I do keep $25 in my wallet and another $25  in the car for emergencies.

I really love seeing idiots who pull out the money clip with $500 or whatever in it. You know that is all the money they process in the world.

Well this says more about your perceptions than anyone who carries cash. There was a time when there would easily be £500 in my wallet at a given time. Now due to lockdown, it’s presented me with an opportunity to go contactless and so I have.  And if all I had in the world was £500 then why would I take it all out with me?

2 hours ago, Superuser said:

it's a safe bet as I only see idiots/scum bags flash their money.

Or someone who has a second job that pays about £500 a night, working 4 nights a week, and chooses not to bank that but rather use it as walking around money.

Someone who has a financially difference stance on “Walking around money” than you.

Hahaha

Lol, more a case of I’d had to have cash at some point and I put the change into my wallet :) I do love it though when you find a bunch you’d forgotten about.

What you call “flashing around” they may call “getting their wallet out”. You sound quite jealous, to be honest.

When I pick up something to eat or drink I usually use cash. Mostly because the local businesses don't get hit with extra fees. In a year I figure I'm giving them an extra $75 by doing so.

Why do keep saying read your previous comment? I don't care about your personal reasoning and it has nothing to do with my original comment but thanks.

Why would I be jealous of scum bags that have a total of $500 to their name? There are some people that may be carrying a significant amount of money around but what idiot flashes it at say a convenience store. LOL  There is difference between carrying a significant amount of money around and flashing it. Why is it so hard to understand I am talking about a certain type of person NOT everyone who may be carrying around a lot of money?

Kramer would. I remember that episode where Kramer whips out his money clip, and he tells Jerry 'You keep the big bills on the outside!'  Jerry says, 'It's a 5'.
