When will the built-in version of Flash be uninstalled by Windows Update?

Flash has been discontinued.

There is a way to manually uninstall this from within Windows.

Will this be done automatically by Microsoft on a Patch Tuesday (maybe February?!) Or do you need to do this by yourself?

And if so, which version from the Microsoft Update Catalog to pick for the Windows 10 20H2 update?

no date has been announced as far as I'm aware yet on when MS will push the KB automatically to remove flash from everyone. right now it's just an Optional KB update like you mentioned

Is it recommended to uninstall now? Or just wait until it’s done in Microsoft’s monthly update cycle?

recommended to just do it now; the time bomb is already in effect so the plugin will refuse to play anything now anyway.

Thx.

For the 20H2 version can I use the 'Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based systems (KB4577586)' package? Because 20H2 is not listed....

Products are namely "Windows 10, version 1903 and later"

It's stated on the page "This update only removes Adobe Flash Player that was installed by your version of Windows."

I thought that Windows 10 also had some 'own' built-in version of Flash - besides the Adobe one...

Anyways, uninstalled my version. On to a Flash-free life

Mostly all W10 versions are listed; 1507, 1607, 1707, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004

So I was wondering why 20H2 is not listed as well.... that's all

They don't list 1909 or 2004 as specific downloads either..  My guess would be that something is common for removal from 1903 and later.. ;)

Guess so too. Filesize is the same. And I think the removal locations as well on various build versions.

Anyways... it's done. Bye bye Flash! :p

Revo Uninstaller has a very powerful feature called Forced Uninstall. This feature allows you to remove leftovers of programs that are already uninstalled, incomplete installations and uninstall remnants of programs! It does not matter if the program, you want to remove, is not listed in Revo Uninstaller or in Windows Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet. Improved – Scanning algorithms for leftovers and uninstall of MSI-based programs

Windows Package Manager Preview adds the ability to uninstall programs
      by Abhay Venkatesh

Image credit: Demitrius Nelon (Twitter) Microsoft launched the Windows Package Manager back in May 2020, bringing to Windows a command-line based package manager akin to what is on Linux. The offering – also known as winget – lets users quickly install a bunch of programs from a central repository that is hosted on GitHub. Users can also opt to use GUI-based offerings such as Winstall.app that features pre-set packages and more.

Now, the Windows Package Manager preview is receiving an update that brings with it a small yet significant feature; the ability to uninstall apps using the utility. The feature was shown off on Twitter by Demitrius Nelon, a member of the team that is building the package manager. The update to the preview version was finally submitted to the Microsoft Store as part of the App Installer package yesterday and has been confirmed by Nelon (spotted by WindowsCentral) as being available on the store now.

As noted by Nelon, it might be a while before preview version 0.2.10191 propagates to all users, so those that are unable to find the update might have to wait for a while. The ability to use the utility to install and uninstall apps greatly enhances the usability of the tool while also making it a viable alternative to other third-party offerings. If you wish to install the update manually, you can find the package on the GitHub releases page here.

It will be interesting to see if more developers leverage the open-source client to create such managers, and when existing apps such as Winstall.app add this functionality.
