Coinbase’s marketing initiative during Super Bowl became so popular that the exchange experienced an outage. Shortly after, the problem was solved.

TicketMaster used to suffer a similar issue.  {Insert hyped band here} announces 2 days at {insert major venue here}.  Tickets go on sale.

OMG - the site crashed.  So they put out a press release about how big the band are, how amazingly fast they sold out, how it's a new record.

Then they release 2 more days...

Seeing as this situation occurred for artists like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Take That, Destiny's Child and so on - I question the honesty of the situation.  We are talking about artists who encountered this in the 2010s - an era where not only would the demand be utterly predictable, but also that such sites should be absolutely scaleable to meet the demand.

Did TicketMaster or those {Insert hyped band here} also giveaway $15 in BTC when their site was down?

What has that got to do with anything? Issue was about supposed scalability due to popular promotion.

Advertising is expensive, Giving away $15 BTC is cheap and puts more people on the platform.

For example, Epic games doesn't give away games because they're philanthropic.

"The first hit is free."

Ticketmaster don't need to give anything away because they know that people will come back, Coinbase know that they need to give the "product" away to free to get people invested in the cryptofad.
