the biggest let down of voyager was the Year of hell 2 parter and finding out later that is was meant to be a whole season, but rick berman didn't want to do a continous story after DS9. that would have been a brilliant season otherwise

It did feel a bit rushed and it would definitely made for a good season but on the flip side I got tired of the Xindi arc in Enterprise.

The entire TOS were episodic and just fine, in fact Season 4 of Enterprise is my favorite of that series.

I watched the first two episodes and really didn't have too much of issue with the series so far and enjoyed it.  Nice few throw backs and some humor.

Spoiler

I didn't see a problem with the Betazoid's described as empaths.  IMHO they are more empaths than telepathic.  Even Troi has always sensed emotions more than reading one mind.  I did have a problem with them not explaining why the spoke in sign language to each other.  Granted the father was deaf but they should still be able to communicate telepathically to each other especially the brother and sister.

They did touch on Discovery getting a retro fit, so I don't know if this take place before they "abandoned" Discovery somewhere or after retrieving her.  I would love to get the story on why they needed to abandon her.

The boys gen z / hogwarts in space.... and the chanceller really needs to replicate a hair brush, being a leader n all.

Also there is an extra in the background sitting on a wheeled device, that shouldnt be a thing anymore.

Bit of a miss for me.

Trio was half human, hence her being only an empath. Its literally in the first episode of TNG. The rest are telepaths.

You may have no issue with it but its just another example of the writers having no clue of the source material.

If I remember correctly, Vance called out that the Betazoid President was an empath not the Betazoids in general.  Ake as old as she is, would know Betazoids are telepaths.

Roddenberry at the launch of TNG was asked specifically about Patrick Stewart being follically challenged and how that couldn't happen in Star Trek's future.  His response was that humans at that time were no longer focused on their age, their sex, or how they looked.  Humans could look like anything and be anyone and still be accepted in society regardless of position.  That extends to hair brushes, needing a wheelchair, being a woman in a position of leadership, wearing glasses, or being obese.  As long as the person was healthy, happy, and doing what they wanted it didn't matter.

To me, that sounds like a future I would have no problems in.

Deanna could communicate telepathically with luaxana . Anywho, who gives a ######. Nutrek is not aimed at people like me.

On top of the Betazoid canon screwup, and the Jem'Hadar screwup, the glasses screwup (the drug Retnax 5 was a thing in Star Trek IV) there's also a Cheron girl in the background, the half black half white race from TOS, of which there were only 2 left in the entire universe, both males, constantly trying to kill each other. So, where'd she come from, hmm?

As Rodney Dangerfield used to say...  "No respect, no respect at all."

It's not that the show is inimically bad, but these are just sloppy mistakes that could be avoided SO easily, their addition brings nothing to the story of a Starfleet Academy, but DO alienate the older fan base, and without us, you don't have a sustainable audience for your show.

Is it Betazoid or Betazed cos I was questioning myself when I was watching it.
Like Doctor Who, it looks like they've also got a PC checklist of who they have to include as characters.

(The Cheron girl will probably end up being The Riddler)

Betazed is the planet, Betazoid is the race.

Kirk is allergic to Retinax V, https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Retinax_V

If you want to picky about glasses. Being Kirk was allergic why not go with the equivalent of Lasik for that time period?

They are warp-capable species and who knows how many are actually left the planet beforehand, https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Cheron

I've been watching Star Trek since the late 70's and I really haven't had a problem with anything Star Trek (accept Section 31 :D).  There's always going to be cannon screwups no matter what.  I just don't go into a new Star Trek series looking for things to *itch about and just enjoy the story they want to tell.

We can pick at holes in all the series, none of them were perfect.

They may yet explain some of the differences, but my feeling with the Cheron is that she's just background colour, with no explanation ever arriving. And TBH, any explanation ruins the point of the original episode, that an entire species destroyed itself over their ridiculous fear of people that don't look the same as them. A poignant warning about what could lay at the end of racism.

See - I know we butt heads on this sort of thing - but I have to agree that this namedropping, this "look look - it's referencing the thing you like" while not really giving any reason how, why, what it means, how we got here... It's a bit "Rey Skywalker"!

They're dropping alien cameos all over the place.

I don't mind namedrops with a purpose, but for the Exocomp especially, it was just used for a gag... And really, almost 1000 years later and they still have exactly the same casing with a new paintjob?  Yeah... Suuuuuuuuuuure...

Ya but no offence but you might have a brain problem 🤣

All would be forgivable if the writing was somewhat decent but all nutrek is just so terribly written.

Kinda harsh dude! NuTrek might suck for many of us, but we're still all Trek fans. Phasers holstered, please!

Not ALL NuTrek sucks.  I largely enjoy SNW.. It's not perfect, but they do a much better job, probably because Kurtzman is less involved in that show than Disco and Academy.  It still has a bunch of problems, but overall it's at least as watchable as Voyager wasn't. :p

I really struggled to like Voyager.  I felt that episodic Trek had become a bit stale, and it was VERY episodic.  And after being spoiled by (the last 4 seasons of) DS9 - I just wanted something a bit more substantial.

Voyager had a plot arc that spanned each season though.

But they were weak and poorly implemented.  I feel that the overarching stories were fine, and actually made sense - but really, I felt they were more a "background" than as integrated DS9 ones were.

No hate, just not particularly enjoyable. It's the only TNG era Trek show I've never felt any desire to rewatch.  Very forgettable TBH.

    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
