Dunno if it's just me who finds it increasingly difficult to discern what Holly Hunter is saying, she had a drawl and a lisp before but they're getting worse as she ages.

Also, Stephen Colbert? Never noticed that?

He was announced he was going to be in Academy awhile back.

I really struggled to like Voyager.  I felt that episodic Trek had become a bit stale, and it was VERY episodic.  And after being spoiled by (the last 4 seasons of) DS9 - I just wanted something a bit more substantial.

Voyager held its own pretty well.

Kinda harsh dude! NuTrek might suck for many of us, but we're still all Trek fans. Phasers holstered, please!

Not ALL NuTrek sucks.  I largely enjoy SNW.. It's not perfect, but they do a much better job, probably because Kurtzman is less involved in that show than Disco and Academy.  It still has a bunch of problems, but overall it's at least as watchable as Voyager wasn't. :p

i guess sarcasm is lost on many people

Aside from the teenage angst, I'm enjoying the series so far.

The last week's episode about Sisko was pretty good.

SAM talking to The Makers reminds me of Mork and Mindy when Mork used to call Orson at the end of every episode.

This show is a disaster and just as disappointing as Strange New Worlds. Star Trek fatigue is real and the franchise needs a break so they can sit down and go back to the drawing board so they can come up with something right.

I'm really rather enjoying it, and the messages it is putting out.  My major gripe on the namedropping feels like it's dying off a little (OK, OK, the last episode was one whole namedrop, but I mean, as a rule it's less than the pilot).  I find the captain annoying, but hey that's 2 for 2 in Lanthanites (not being xenophobic lol) and she is fitting the role given.  And the 1st office Kling-Hadar, look - Gina Yashere just can't act and has no place being anywhere near acting.  But the rest, loving it - especially anything with the Doctor, Jay-Den, Sam, or Reno.

I loved the episode, and god damn Paul is good, makes me want to hate Nus as a person sooo much.  Always played villains so good.

Enjoyed this new episode. For me, the best episode yet.

Paul Giamatti's role as Nus Braka is a stand out.

No kidding!, I just finished it as well and it is easily the best episode so far.

It was a very good episode indeed.

Spoiler

Furie species looks to be very problematic and tough to kill and it doesn't help that they are teaming up with Nus and I wonder if the "special gift" is Mir's mother.

Tarima looks to be a very powerful Betazoid that she was able to reach out that far to do the damage she did to the Furies.

In a sense she used Kaleb as an extender... That may be part of why he's in shock at the end.

I've loved trek since I was a kid.  Discovery was tolerable and was the first new trek in years.  SNW I quite enjoy, but if you're going to only give us a few EPs a season why in the world would you do a musical.  Those were always fillers.  Now we have Academy.  Yikes.  This feels like 90210 in the future, and I have to fast forwarded through most of the first EPs just to find something interesting.  This is hands down the worst trek show I've ever watched.  Oh wait, I forgot about section 31 which had the potential to be one of the best ever trek shows, that got turned into that disaster of a "movie".

I agree that this show is struggling.

Let's see what happens now though. This episode was excellent and opens more than one interesting story line if the writers can take advantage of it.

We will know in two episodes if this Trek survives imo.

What a load of rubbish! Just viewing young people with overactive hormones. A very disappointing stream for a 60 year anniversary. The visual effects are realistic, but that's about all  🤮

I can also do without depicting sex.  It’s not needed.

I disagree - it was relevant to the plot, the sharing and then the misunderstanding of the shared intimacy, the leaking of the situational perspective from one aspect to another, and then the overcoming of this for the final act.

USS Teen Angst, registry number NCC-90210.

If you're not under the age of 20, this is disappointing. I really hope they spin-off Picard with the Enterprise G (they could probably do without Picard's 42 year old 'son' though and find someone actually in their 20s)

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
