Settlers New Allies crashing and won't start

Recommended Posts

When launching Settlers New Allies (via Ubisoft Connect) it won't launch.

The splash screen sometimes appears, then a 'black' The Settlers window and that it crashes/vanishes.

Do you guys also experience this? I have submitted a request at Ubisoft, but they are (as it looks like) very busy and not responding.

I also uninstalled Settlers New Allies, deleted the cache, restarted my computer, updated to latest nvidia drivers and Windows Update etc etc.
It's a Windows 11 24H2 machine (see sig)

Not what you want to hear but i have the exact same thing happening to me.

Sent reports and sent question about it to Ubisoft two days ago.

I don't see a link with 'register here' in your post. Am I correct?

Update:
With KB5051987 reinstalled Settlers not working and launching.

So apparently it has something to do with the Microsoft's update.... any ideas if this will be fixed in the March "patch Tuesday", because I don't really like an unpatched W11 24H2.

Interestingly to see that Windows Update is now downloading KB5051987 (and thus skipping 5050094).

Hopefully Settlers is playable after installing this 5051987 update. Otherwise, I know where to look...

It’s not all that interesting. That what happens when an update is superseded by another update.

KB5051987 is from February. You should be installing KB5053598 if you want to keep your system updated.

Apparently your post was from February. My apologies. KB5053598 would have superseded KB5051987

I have installed KB5053598.

However, not uninstalled the previous (previews) KB-updates (e.g. KB5052093). But since these are cummulative... does that really matter?

KB5052093 was a Preview cumulative update. I would revert to KB5051987 rather than stay on KB5052093. Since there are problems with KB5051987 I would then rollback to KB5050009. It's very likely problem is with Ubisoft's software not necessarily at fault of Microsoft's patch.

Reverting and restoring to previous KB-updates led to an unusable and corrupt Windows  [the all-known BSOD when booting]

I had to reinstall everything. But even with the new installation set, and all current monthly updates... no playable The Settlers: New Allies.

And still a crash, and crash report to be sent.

It might be a good idea to temporarily disable Windows updates and test it again. If the game runs smoothly on earlier updates, then the issue is likely related to the recent Microsoft patches

Nope. Not even with the latest KB5055523 April Patch Update installed.

Dunno if someone has mentioned this before but have you tried it on windows 10. I had an issue with star wars outlaws and installed Windows 10 on a separate partition until they fixed it.

It DID run on Windows 11 24H2 before the January KB5050094 update earlier this year [see also above]. So technically up until end of January 2025, and thus also 2024 and earlier.

All other updates after that didn't make the game work again.
I have no W10 machine to try it on.

You don't need another machine, partition around 20 gigs on your current machine, install windows 10, or an early version of windows 11 there. It really is quite simple.. you can keep your current os for everything else

Like I said… it did work. I even uninstalled these KB’s and got it working again.

    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
