Microsoft patches annoying Event Viewer bug in Windows 11

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that following the installation of July's non-security preview updates, users are seeing errors related to CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) in Event Viewer with an ID of 57. Initially, Microsoft asked customers to safely ignore the error since it is related to a feature that is currently in development, it has now patched the problem once and for all.

In an update on the Windows Release Health dashboard, Microsoft has announced that it has resolved this bug through the KB5064081 non-security update released for Windows 11, version 24H2 devices yesterday. The fix is being made available to all commercial devices who have Windows updates managed by Microsoft, along with consumer SKUs (Home and Pro), which will automatically receive the update.

That said, Microsoft has noted that it may take up to four weeks for this update to propagate, after which all future security and non-security updates will contain this patch by default. Meanwhile, customers who have Windows updates configured to be managed by IT departments rather than Microsoft will also receive the update next month.

It is important to note that this bug in particular only impacted Windows 11, version 24H2 devices. Although the accompanying error message indicated that the "Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider provider was not loaded because initialization failed", this was a false positive and no processes were actually impacted. This is one of the reasons why Microsoft initially requested customers to ignore this error.

Microsoft is still tracking another open bug related to OBS NDI streaming performance issues across various versions of Windows. Although the company has shared a workaround for now, the expectation is that it will share a concrete patch later once its investigation is complete. There are no concrete timelines known for the delivery of this fix though, but we'll let you know when it lands.
