Blizzard Entertainment is no stranger to mobile games, with Warcraft Rumble, Hearthstone, and Diablo Immortal being successful ventures for the company. Now, it's taking another stab at the space, this time centered around its Overwatch brand. Announced today with a simple blog post and an early gameplay video, Overwatch Rush will be Blizzard's next mobile-centered games project.
The new game is in development by a new team inside the developer, "all of whom have deep mobile experience," according to Blizzard. It confirmed that Team 4, the main Overwatch development team, will not be involved in the project and will remain focused on the PC and console game, which underwent a major transformation recently.

The biggest change is the perspective shift, moving the game from first-person to a top-down view for a more MOBA-like experience. Matches are 4v4, with teams fighting it out to take control of locations on the map. Touch-screen play is what's confirmed right now, with no support for controllers.
As expected, characters from the main series are appearing in the mobile spin-off, with their iconic powers to keep the theme intact.
"Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players," says Blizzard. "While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development."
Overwatch Rush is in development for Android and iOS devices. It will be available as a free-to-play experience when ready. Ahead of the release, Blizzard plans to begin testing the title in some regions, with more information being promised soon via its official Discord server over here.
