Amazon has announced the new Fire TV Stick HD, its slimmest HD streaming stick yet. The company says the new device is about 30% narrower than the previous HD model and can be powered directly through a TV’s USB port, removing the need for a separate power adapter.
The new Fire TV Stick HD also comes with Amazon’s redesigned Fire TV experience, which offers a cleaner layout with dedicated categories for movies, TV shows, live content, sports, and news. In terms of performance, Amazon claims the new stick is more than 30% faster on average than the previous-generation HD model. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for better wireless connectivity.
Amazon also said it will introduce a new Adaptive Display accessibility feature to the Fire TV Stick HD in the coming months. This feature will enlarge smaller text and menus while scaling content artwork proportionally to make on-screen navigation easier.
As expected, the device includes Alexa+ in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. Alexa+ will allow users to ask for personalized content recommendations, get details about content on screen, and control compatible smart home devices using their voice in natural language.
Due to a lack of significant upgrades, Amazon is highlighting the portability with this new device. While the Fire TV Stick HD is smaller than before, it is unclear whether users felt the size of the Fire TV was a problem.
