System76, a well-known developer of Linux-based computers, has added two new desktop computer series to its Thelio product family, namely, "Thelio Mira" desktop and "Thelio Major" workstation. Focusing on performance and durability, these products are built entirely in-house by System76 in Denver.
The Thelio Mira is built for professionals who need a performance-oriented, reliable, and repairable device that can be used in any kind of workstation environment. It can be configured with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, 192GB of DDR5 memory, 28TB of storage, and NVIDIA RTX 5090 graphics. Majorly, the desktop is 19% faster, and operating temperatures are reduced by 13.5 degrees Celsius with an improved thermal design, compared to its predecessors.
While the developers seeking to max out the system's performance can get their hands on the Thelio Major workstation, which is configurable up to 64-core AMD Threadripper 9980X processors, 256GB DDR5 ECC memory, NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell graphics, and 40TB of storage. For an output of better thermal performance with smooth and faster operations, the chassis of the workstation has been reduced by 13% compared to its previous versions. Key performance improvements over the previous generation include:
- CPU average clock speed increased 7% (4142MHz → 4435 MHz)
- GPU average clock speed increased 1.8% (2551MHz → 2597 MHz)
- CPU temperature reduced by 17.9°C (94.6°C → 76.7°C)
- GPU temperature reduced by 9°C (82°C → 73°C)
Talking about the products, the Founder and CEO of System76, Carl Richell, said,
"The Thelio line represents the System76 passion for engineering innovation and manufacturing excellence. Repairable design with durable metals provides easy access to the interior for a long-lasting, reliable computer. System76 provides an integrated computing platform with hardware built for Linux and optimized for Pop!_OS and Ubuntu"
Both products are now available on the official site with a starting price of $1,699 for Thelio Mira, with custom and pre-configured options available, and $6,999 for Thelio Major.
