Microsoft Teams is getting a new file download manager

Rolling out globally this month, the update introduces auto-dismissing notifications without changing your file locations or permissions.

As a central location for working with colleagues digitally, Microsoft Teams sees users downloading files heavily; however, these can create notifications that clutter the screen. To address this, Microsoft is rolling out the “New File Download Manager” this month, which will streamline the experience and reduce digital noise.

Microsoft says that this new download manager will feature auto-dismissing notifications that go away after four seconds. For anyone out there who hates changes, Microsoft assures that this update does not alter where files go, how they are secured, or existing permissions. It said that despite the change, you can still easily open or locate files post-download.

Users can expect to get this update pretty soon, as Microsoft is rolling it out between early June and late June for desktop and web users globally. The targeted release will land in the first half of the month, and the general availability will hit in the latter half. The Redmond giant will also be switching this on by default, so no user action is required.

If your organization has internal training materials or helpdesk wikis, then you might want to update any screenshots to reflect the new look. For heavy Teams users, this quality-of-life update could make life a bit less annoying with less clutter taking up your work environment.

More information about this update is available from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Message ID MC1318249. If you have login credentials for the Admin Center, you can learn more here. Additionally, you can see some of the details on the M365 Roadmap under Roadmap ID 560815.
