Running Mac OS X on x86 PC!

Question

Hm... OS 10.2 always gave an error, but OS 10.3 works... My original theory would seem to hold true for me, but now the question is how did other people get 10.2 to work for them... Odd indeed...

W00T! Install screen!

I'm still trying to get 10.2 to work, I haven't figured it out yet. :pinch:

Hm... Isn't that just turning off verbose output in the command prompt? In any case, I'll have to give that a whirl later, OS 10.3 is installing right now. ; )

I did make a slight adjustment to make the process more bearable...

redraw_interval_msec = 35

Smooth...

i turned it off and OS X 10.2 is installing right now

got it to work!!

well, i forever got stuck in the installer at the part where you could see your disk image, but couldn't install onto it, because there was a red exclamation mark saying you can't install onto that disk.

i am using a fat32 partition which has a 4 gig limitation. i extracted the 6 gig file from pear's website, and it stopped at 4 gigs. I used it anyways.

well, after much fiddling, i made two partitions on the image. one a mac os extended of 3.5gigs, and the other a unix partition of 500mb.

after i did that, i could magically finally install!

Has anyone figured out if the emulator can be set to a specific chipset/processor? I have the full install of Jaguar and 10.2.7, but just the upgrade version of 10.3. I can't get to the installer in 10.2, but 10.2.7 will let me get to the installer, but it won't let me install because it is G5 only.

Any thoughts?

I'm running into a bit of a problem

I apparently have 0 bootable partitions. I have the 6GB image from the ppc site and I used Toast to create a .toast image (which I copied to my PC and renamed it as an .iso, which is allegedly ok). I have my config file set up correctly and it reads all the partitions (3 on the cd, one on the "harddrive"), but can't boot from any. Maybe the cd format is bad? how do i convert my .toast/.iso to a different format?

Oh, I didn't install Darwin, but apparently you don't need to (and I can't seem to download it from opensource.apple.com)?

Thanks

This might work, but it's really untested.

There should be closer to ten or twelve partitions on that CD.

I heard from a friend in the Mac Emulation Forums that you had to rename the extension on a Mac, then copy it over.

Conspiracy theory du jour:

I installed the JITC version on a PC last night, downloaded the Darwin 7.01 PPC version and loaded it.

This morning, on a different PC, I downloaded the Darwin 7.01 PPC version -- and it refuses to install.

The only difference between these two PC's is that #1 is AMD 3000+ w/ 1GB ram... #2 is Intel 2.8GHz w/ 512MB ram. They both run the same OS, SP level, etc.

I could have sworn last night the Darwin download came as an ISO file -- it appears to be an .iso.gz file now.

Did Apple get wise to this and pull a switcheroo on the ISO file available for download?

I know, I'll go put on my tinfoil hat. It does strike me as odd, however, because I'm pretty sure I didn't have to unzip the Darwin download from last night.

he iso has always been compressed for as long I've been a member of ADC. What's the big deal - the image is compressed (ISO files aren't compressed so it makes sense to zip it up).

just unzip the thing.

Oh, I did unzip it. That wasn't the problem -- I just thought it hadn't been a GZ when I pulled it down last night, but as I said, it is entirely possible I am on crack.

    • Personally, I think these things are way over rated and way over priced, even at this price. I recently had Frontier Fiber installed with 2 of these devices and although they worked, I switched back to my own router and AP setup and get way better consistency on wireless speed than with Eeros. Wired speed seems to be more consistent also. Will be returning Eeros soon. I had told Frontier I didn't want them to begin with.
    • Yes, exactly what I have been thinking. Don't make the context menu simpler, make it smarter to learn what I actually use. And then, give me the ability to pin settings that I rarely use but need forget where they are.

Later today, Geoff Keighley will be bringing the 2026 edition of Summer Game Fest live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Keighley has only dropped a few teasers about what gaming fans can expect to see at the show. This includes a new look at Star Wars Zero Company from EA, a major announcement from Guild Wars developer ArenaNet, more Clutch gameplay, and some sort of Sega presence. As for fan expectations, there is hype building about a Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 reveal here, and we might see new details about announced games like Alien Isolation 2 as well. If you want even more games, keep in mind that right after the main kickoff event, the Day of the Devs showcase will begin its own festivities at 4 pm PT | 7 pm ET. This is focused entirely on upcoming indie games. Following this, the next major games showcase is slated to happen on June 7. Here, Microsoft is bringing the big guns with its Xbox Games Showcase and Gears of War E-Day Direct. Check out the full calendar for all of the June events over here.
