Running Mac OS X on x86 PC!

Question

I think I have found a way (at least it works for me) to change CDs without rebooting:

Drag the CD to the eject arrow.

Let go the mouse button.

immediately hit F12.

Immediately click the "Change CD" button

It should pop up a dialog box that allows you to select a different ISO or even IMG file (although the IMG file is seen as a CD)

It works for me, but it requires a little playing with the timing.

Let me know if anyone else has luck with this, or if I am missing an easier way of doing this.

Thanks,

Jon

Oh great.. so been chugging away for ages at this only to find that MagicISO (and probably Windows) can't interpret a MacOS X install CD!!

Nero will make an image of the CD in its NRG format, but then when I try and convert it from an NRG to an ISO with MagicISO, it reckons the image is blank!! :|

*edit*

Ahhh.. matters not.. off we go :)

ok, i've done everything in the tutorials but it still won't work for me, so i must be doing something wrong...

:crazy:

- i have the 6GB disk image in my pearpc directory

- i have unzipped the win32-jitc version in my pearpc directory

- i've made a config file for my system, named "ppc_configfile", and it looks like this:

#PearPC configuration file

#Screen Resolution ID

#Current = 800*600*15

ppc_start_resolution=-1

#Redraw Interval in ms (1-999)

redraw_interval_msec=200

#Boot Mode : auto, select or force

#(force is not implemented in Config GUI yet)

prom_bootmethod="select"

#Boot Method : "-v" = verbose

#"-s" = single-user mode (usefull to format Mac OS X drive from Darwin)

prom_env_machargs="-s"

#This is needed if you want to boot Mac OS X

prom_driver_graphic="video.x"

#CPU config : defaults to 0x00088302

#cpu_pvr = 0x00088302

#Memory Size (default 128 MiB, must be >= 64 MiB)

memory_size=0x8000000

#IO Devices

#Master Device

pci_ide0_master_installed=1

pci_ide0_master_image="C:\pearpc\macosx_6gb_unjournaled.img"

pci_ide0_master_type="hd"

#Slave Device

pci_ide0_slave_installed=1

pci_ide0_slave_image="F:\Mac OSX 10.3 CD 1.iso"

pci_ide0_slave_type="cdrom"

#Network (unavailable on Windows)

pci_3c90x_installed=0

pci_3c90x_mac="de:ad:ca:fe:12:34"

#USB Device

pci_usb_installed=1

#NVRAM

nvram_file="nvram"

i've followed all the steps and yet it still won't work, for the love of God, someone freakin' enlighten me PLEASE!!!

everytime i double click on ppc.exe, it says usage: ppc configfile, and i don't have any clue what that means. should i be running my config file from the run window? if so, how do i do this? i'm not trying to be annoying, i just want a little help. thanks

Couple things:

Yes, you really should be running this from the "cmd" prompt.

1. this line: ppc_start_resolution=-1

should be this: ppc_start_resolution=4

2: this line: pci_ide0_slave_installed=1

pci_ide0_slave_image="F:\Mac OSX 10.3 CD 1.iso"

Is f: your CD-ROM? if so, this won't work... it needs to be an actual ISO made from something like Alcohol120 or Alcohol52 and put it in your pearpc directory.

If f: is actually a hard drive... never mind.

3: this line: prom_env_machargs="-s"

should be: prom_env_machargs=""

You can make these changes to the file "ppc_configfile" in notepad or wordpad (or any text editor). After you make the changes and save the file do the following:

goto Start>Run and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and hit enter

at the prompt type "cd \" (without the quotes) and hit enter

type "cd pearpc" (without the quotes) and hit enter

then type "ppc ppc_configfile"(without the quotes) and hit enter

you should then be prompted to select a boot partition (select the one that has the CD in it)

Hopefully, you will eventually get to the install screen.

You may need to open the disk utility and format the HD. If you get that far post back. I usually use the partition tab of the disk utility instead of the erase.

thanks for yourr help jon, but everytime i attempt to run the config file from the run dialog, it gives me this message:

D:\pearpc>ppc ppc configfile (this is what i type in)

usage: ppc configfile (this is what it tells me)

and when i type in:

D:\pearpc>ppc ppc_configfile

ppc_configfile: I/O error: No such file or directory (this is what it tell me if i type in anything except the first example)

i'm not really sure why i won't run the file, the name of my configfile is "' ppc_configfile'' (with the space mark in the file name) . it's in the pearpc folder along with a .bat file with the same name. any ideas? :wacko:

I followed the example from Kevin Rose on TechTV and downloaded his two premade config files for Darwin and Mac OS X.

Their file names are:

ppccfg.darwin

and

ppccfg.osx

The default config file that comes with the PearPC has an .example extension.

Great! Finally got it to work! I must say I'm quite impressed by how fast it works. Of course it is nowhere the speed of a real Mac but knowing how difficult PPC emulation is I expected it to perform a lot worse. Can't wait for the next version :)

Here's a screenshot:

Totally...and there were so many who said it couldn't be done.

u don't need any extensions for that config file .. its just a plain text file ...
