[Alpha] Pop Goes the GMail

Question

Pop Goes the GMail

PGtGM has been discontinued. Please use http://www.gnotify.com/gpopper/ instead!

PGtGM sits between you GMail account and your email client, converting messages from the web based mailbox into POP3 messages that a program such as Outlook Express or Firebird can understand.

POP3 server now fully works. You are able to download gmail emails through any email client. SMTP server appears to work.

Please post any bugs you find in the login process to the thread, or problems displaying messages.

Hey guys, I was just talking to a buddy of mine who recently got GMail.  And I told him about this awesome program.  But then he told me not to use it because people are getting banned by google?  Is this true???

If you look at the Policies, they could probably argue that it might violate:

Interfere with other Gmail users' enjoyment of the Service

Modify, adapt, translate, or reverse engineer any portion of the Gmail Service

Remove any copyright, trademark or other proprietary rights notices contained in or on the Gmail Service

Reformat or frame any portion of the web pages that are part of the Gmail Service

Take your pick and I'm sure pgtgm could violate any of them, especially #3 and #4

My messeges are screwed up in outlook.

Observe:

And

Any ideas ?

This is a bug in my handling of HTML emails. I have fixed it, so it will be working for 0.7.

Well, i was obviously the first person to use it...

Any my gmail account still works just fine!

If this is true, which I very much doubt, then all that needs to be done is change what PGtGM identifies itself as, and problem solved.

First off, do you have the .dll file in the same folder as the EXE?

Hmm.. im wondering if this is something to do with transparency. Anyone who is getting this error, please download the attached file, (no transparency) and post if you still get it?

I like this program - but why get it if you have gmail? Gmail is supposed to be better than regular email, which is why it's there. I guess you can use it for the 1 gb storage, but I don't think that anyone has a problem with storage when they are downloading their mail to their computers. Just my thoughts. Great program though.

more for people who dont care about searching or "starring" their email, and just want it downloaded to their email client without having to log in through a web browser and navigate to an email...

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0xf54 (3924), Thread id=0x32c (812).

click OK to terminate, or click CANCEL to debug.....

any ideas?

Then why get gmail when those features it has are the reason for signing up?

Jon,

First off - great program! I had a Gmail account I was not using but this proggy changed that.

For your info:

I am running Windows XP Pro SP 2 Build 2138

My email client is Outlook 2003

I am using PGTGM 0.7

I can receive emails sent from other sources with attachments through pgtgm to Outlook.

I can send text only emails from Outlook through pgtgm and receive them at other addresses.

I cannot send emails with attachments from Outlook through pgtgm - I receive nothing at the other end - not even accompanying text or any email notification.

Also - I noticed your program is running with a small level of transparency on my machine. I don't know if this is intended or a glitch.

Lastly, since you have written and given this program away freely it might be rude to ask you to add and option to remove your website from the bottom of sent emails - could you at least fully write out "Pop goes the Gmail" instead of pgtgm so people who receve my emails have some idea of the nature of the link that was sent.

Thanks

first off, great program :)

one thing that bothers me though is that when i go to shut down my computer, (thus, windows trying to close all running programs) it gives the "are you sure you wish to close pgtgm?" prompt

is it just like that on my comp?

maybe the ability to toggle that warning prompt could find its way into a future version..?

thanks again for a very handy program

now i can have OE and MSN Plus! check mail from my gmail..wheee

Hello again, 1 problem, 1 suggestion:

Problem

A refreshing issue - I actually had to write this 4 times as I tested and narrowed it down. Basically, Pgtgm has a problem in this situation - If, via the Gmail website, you delete new emails without reading them or you read them then delete them before the next check, *and* this leaves an empty inbox, then Pgtgm keeps saying you have new messages, and even lets POP clients download them, when you haven't really got any. Example: Send 2 emails to myself, Pgtgm says 2 new emails. Go to the website and delete one, leaving 1 in inbox, notifcation still correctly says 1 new email. However, if I read and delete the last one before the next check by Pgtgm, or I just plain delete it without reading it, leaving the inbox empty, then nofitfication now says 1 new email, and will continue to do so, and Outlook/whatever can download that last email from the POP server. This does not get fixed until the inbox becomes no longer empty, either when a new email is received, or a read one is moved back in. This is a big problem for those like me who a) work with the web interface, b) like to keep an empty inbox and c) read/delete emails quickly, or just plain delete without reading.

Suggestion

Change the notification system so you only get the "x new messages in inbox" popup on startup - having it pop up every 5 minutes gets annoying after a while if you dont want to read your emails immediately. At all other times, a popup should only appear if a new email has been received since the last check (maybe use some sort of hash to uniquely identify the emails). Then it can pop up saying "new email from whoever", just the once.

    • KillerPDF 1.5.1 by Razvan Serea KillerPDF is a lightweight, portable PDF editor for Windows built for users who want full control without subscriptions, installers, or telemetry. It runs as a single executable, making it ideal for USB use and field work. You can view PDFs with smooth PDFium rendering, navigate quickly with thumbnails, zoom, and shortcuts, and reorganize pages using drag-and-drop. It supports merging multiple PDFs, splitting documents, and extracting selected pages. KillerPDF also allows inline text editing with font matching to preserve the original layout, plus annotations like text boxes, freehand drawing, highlights, and reusable signatures. You can search full text, copy content easily, and print documents with flattened annotations. Designed as a free and open alternative to bloated PDF tools, it works fully offline on Windows 10/11 x64. No runtimes install. Everything needed is inside the EXE (targets .NET Framework 4.8, which ships with every supported Windows release). KillerPDF key features: High-quality PDF rendering via PDFium Edit PDF text inline (double-click to modify text) Page thumbnails and fast navigation with zoom and shortcuts Merge multiple PDFs into one Split PDFs and extract selected pages Drag-and-drop page reordering Font matching to preserve original document appearance Text boxes for notes Freehand drawing tools Highlight overlays with adjustable color, size, opacity Undo actions and clear per-page annotations Create, draw, and save reusable signatures Click-to-place signatures anywhere Full-text search with highlighted results Drag-select or Ctrl+A to copy text Print with annotations flattened Portable single-file app (~10 MB) No installer, no admin rights required No account, no telemetry KillerPDF 1.5.1 changelog: Performance Save Flattened PDF now uses multiple CPU cores. Page rasterization is parallelized (PNG encoding runs across cores; the PDFium render step stays serialized since the library isn't thread-safe), so large documents flatten significantly faster while the UI stays responsive (#68). Fixed PDFs that failed to open with "Unexpected EOF" now open (#72). The failure was PdfSharpCore's Flate inflater (SharpZipLib) rejecting the FlateDecode cross-reference stream on multi-revision PDFs - files that open fine in browsers, Acrobat, and Foxit. KillerPDF now detects this and re-opens the file losslessly through PDFium, preserving selectable text. Thanks to @javajon for the report and a detailed reproduction. Grid view renders every page. It was capped at the first 26 pages, so longer documents stopped loading partway through. Tiles also stream in progressively now instead of blocking until the whole document is rendered. Grid Ctrl+Scroll no longer reloads every page when the zoom is already at its limit and nothing would change. Removed a stray horizontal scrollbar (a thin green line) that could appear across the bottom of grid view. Files on UNC / network shares (including the WSL \\wsl$ filesystem) are copied locally before opening, avoiding partial-read failures on network filesystems. Changed Minimum zoom lowered from 10% to 5%, so grid view can pack more columns (helpful for wide/landscape pages) and single-page view can zoom out further.
