[Alpha] Pop Goes the GMail

Question

Pop Goes the GMail

PGtGM has been discontinued. Please use http://www.gnotify.com/gpopper/ instead!

PGtGM sits between you GMail account and your email client, converting messages from the web based mailbox into POP3 messages that a program such as Outlook Express or Firebird can understand.

POP3 server now fully works. You are able to download gmail emails through any email client. SMTP server appears to work.

Please post any bugs you find in the login process to the thread, or problems displaying messages.

Has anyone found a way to have a system tray alert program or something to tell you when you have new email at gmail??

I like hotmail because msn messenger email alerts...

Vinh.

Why not just use this program, but don't set up your email client to use it?

It automatically checks and notifies you every 5 mins lol if you have email!

Only just realised this app exists, absolutely quality. Best of both worlds! Now I've got all the emails safely stored on GMail and accessible from anywhere, as well as the convenience of reading them in outlook, cheers for this app :)

Just a quick question which might have been answered so sorry if it has but does PGtGM only allow connections from localhost? If not would that not make it a little dangerous as you are basically running a POP/SMTP server on your local machine yes? I have not had a look at your software (sorry but I don't have .NET framework installed). Just wondered thats all.

Excuse my laziness if it's been discussed before, but does this work with Opera Mail? It works with Outlook 2003 fine, but I'm giving Opera a whirl and it keeps rejecting the password.

should as long as opera mail complies with the pop3 protocol... /me runs before a flame war starts between thunderbird and opera mail.

i would check that it is logging in as dazzla instead of [email protected]. i think you have to use just your user name not full email address.

edit: that "about" screen music ownz :p

Hmmm, it was showing my username correctly, but I just retyped it on the password prompt and it worked fine :s

Pleasantly surprised by Opera, it's gonna take a lot to wrestle FX away from me though :shifty:

Another thing, I have it running minimized at startup but when I shut down it gives me a warning that closing it will not let me get my Gmail, this just halts the shutdown, am I missing something?

I installed the runtimes, extracted the folder but can't seem to get it to run....

I am guessing maybe its a runtime error instead of a program error.

Tried the fix, that didn't work either.

This issue has been fixed in the latest version

Don't take this the wrong way, but I still hope Google makes the program obsolete with their own IMAP or POP support

Hey, I registered so I could get the coders msn address, heh... and now I might as well post ;)

They will, unfortunately they're going to charge for it.

19 bucks a month is what they're currently considering.

I've got a way I get this information that I won't name here, but it's true. ;)

Regards,

Jon
