The next version of Neowin (4.0) has to have a Hardware News and Security News Section.

If they don't come.. I"m gonna be really disapointed.

Functionality > Apperance.

:D

im with xstaindx on this i wanna see some decent hardware news coverage ... and av reports are a great feature

i do remember neobond or one of the admins talking about various news ideas, mac, hardware etc....

:D btw im still loving that design, tho you might want bring the side bar into line with the curve of that top bar (just a suggestion)

looks nice... i love the use of colour

but the neowin logo makes it hard to incorporate even the current news let alone more..

maybe your could put the ( N ) in the actual bar and write neowin below it, it would give you more space for horizontal bars

DUDE! That's a really nice design you got there  I like how seamless the layout looks in general, also you have a nice combination of fonts.

Not meant to discourage you at all, in the latest one you mocked up there, the middle part with the recent forum posts and the Announcement section, looks a little too cramped and that also makes the Orange/Red/Grey colouring of each section look a little tacky. I think we should reduce the size of the fonts and the line spacing in that entire row(ie. the recent forum posts/Announcements section), so maybe the height of the sections could align with the Google Ad, and we could have a wider Announcements section :)

Just a few observations that might give you some ideas ;) But you've come up a really sleek design :)

Absolutely, the middle section is much harder than I thought.

Some updates on the middle section. What do you guys think?

Looks very nice, but I just don't like too colourful that could spell the end of professional and clean look of Neowin. However Neowin suppose to bring professional looks feeling in delivering tech news to all members and visitors. The website must be high usability, that is easy to navigate, easy to read texts and messages, and retaining the professional look. Hope to see Neowin gets the facelift and hope to see all features can be retained or if not making it to be better :)

Personally, I don't really like the fonts.. If I were you, I would use Verdana instead ;)

We need the Google Ads, so try to create something that fits with the rest of the box to wrap around it ;)

I didn't choose Verdana because I found Verdana to be very wide, and space "wasting" is something I'm trying to reduce :)

Keeps getting better except for the last one that looks to cluttered at the top and the grey headers makes them bits look inactive

What if there was one large box that showed all software+hardware+gaming etc news but with a little icon to the left to show what news type it is.

I don't even know if thats possiblie in invision though....

    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
    • Hello, The Media Creation Tool is still at v10.0.26100.7019 from October 2025. Just looks like the backend has been updated. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • Since they open sourced the calculator in Win 10/11 it is much better and can do a lot, I love it.
    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. Btw, I note on askwoody that Woody Leonhard passed away March, 2025 aged 73. His site was one of my favorites back in the day. Belated yes but RIP Woody.
