This program never ceases to amaze me. I wish other programs were as lean and functional as this. You really put some of those big name software producers to shame.

It should serve me even better whenever the Almighty decides to dump some snow on us. Hopefully He does not wait too long - I would sure appreciate a white Christmas - it is Iowa for crying out loud. We should already have a few inches.

Anyway, thanks for your hard work. Hopefully you can get a lot done before finals. And as I stated before, if you need any help with testing, or whatever else it may be, let me know.

THANKS!

I love this app but I have a problem when I send to tray then try to bring it back it wont show sometimes I have to kill it and restart it ot show. Same way when I minimize it and try to restore , it shows then vanishes. Anyone else have this problem. By the way I have had this problem with the last 3 builds.

BTW does that retry button ever go away (i.e. when the images would be done downloading even though they're hidden)? Just so I know for fixing it (even though it is a quick and simple fix.

Sorry for the long reply,

Yes the button goes away after the maps are downloaded and animated :)

I've decided to release what's done so far through automatic updates, it fixes too many things to be stagnated this long. There are a few small issues with it (the biggest one being the status messages if it can't download data for your location for whatever reason)

Thanks, I appreciate that. The next version is progressing nicely, that will clear up hopefully most of the issues with the admittedly hastily release 2.2.9.6; this will enable timed muting (e.g. mute from 10 pm to 8 am) as well as fix a few niggling problems such as

- docking and "jumping" between edges for certain resolutions / font sizes

- program jumping around while resizing in some cases

- better handling of weather alerts with two tray icons

- better handling of invalid locations/lack of internet connection

- problem with autoupdates

- now that i have a unified settings pane, which includes the updates, i tried to give the user the option to save or discard their other settings before applying the update (which will require the program to be closed); unfortunately, i put that option in the wrong order; i.e. i put the message box that asks if you want to save after the part that tries to close the program. Long story short is, decide whether you want to save your settings in about 2 seconds, before the next part of the update process kicks in.

This version will most likely be 2.2.9.7

Then I get back to work on enriching the data, i.e. detailed forecasts (including hour-by-hour) and a ''week at a glance'' forecast view as suggested by someone

  • 2 weeks later...

OK, I have a test version that everyone can try out, it is 2.2.9.7 which, if all goes well, will become the official 2.3 release.

Get it here! And let me know of any problems!

Fixed:

- Fixed problem with docking resulting in program "jumping" back and forth for certain resolutions

- Better handling of NWS alerts with two tray icons

- Status messages now work for problems such as no location or no internet connection

- Enabled mute always and based on time range (better displayed on the menus)

- Enabled option for fadeout on exit and window resize animations

- Other slight fixes

Have a happy and healthy new year everyone.

That would require essentially a complete redesign of the program, particularly with sites that don't have a simple XML-based feed (which is really the only reason I use the weather channel). I checked and the weather channel (i.e. my program) does have weather data for melbourne, australia. TWC does have stations throughout most of the world.

    • Uhm, that's every business ever, though. It doesn't matter if a bajillion users are using it. As long as it's not making bank, it's probably headed for the graveyard.

    • Samsung is the new Google... they don't care if millions of people are using it.
    • Still no word on Tides of Annihilation...... so weird that it wasn't shown at the big Game Fest. Guess I'll put it in the bin like Judas and Squadron 42.
    • Samsung is shutting down yet another app used by millions by David Uzondu Samsung has announced that it is shutting down Samsung Max, its VPN service used by more than 50 million people, effective today. Samsung Max VPN, if you don't know, was an Android app born on February 23, 2018, out of the ashes of Opera Max, a very popular data-saving VPN that Opera had discontinued the previous year. Samsung bought the discontinued service, rebranded it, and added a native Samsung UI to fit the Galaxy ecosystem. The app could do things like compress images, help you manage background data on a per-app basis, reduce video data consumption, shrink music files, optimize webpages, block advertisement trackers in incognito mode, and encrypt your internet traffic on public Wi-Fi networks. Image via SammyGuru If you open the app now, you'd be greeted by a shutdown banner warning that all VPN, data saving, and privacy services stopped functioning on June 15, 2026. The creators failed to provide a reason for the shutdown, instead publishing a farewell note that read: "Thank you for being with us over the years. Your support and activity truly meant a lot to us and helped shape this app into what it became." This same message appears on the Google Play Store listing for the app as well. Max VPN is the latest service from Samsung to join the list of discontinued applications from the company. Just two months ago, the Korean tech giant announced that it is completely shutting down Samsung Messages, forcing millions of users to migrate to Google Messages by next month. The only devices that the shutdown won't affect are older smartphones running Android 11 or lower. Some of the features of Google Messages that Samsung hopes will entice users include AI-powered scam detection to block suspicious links, integrated Gemini AI tools to generate quick replies, custom chat bubbles, and universal RCS compatibility for sharing high-quality media with iOS users. The platform also offers seamless syncing across tablets and smartwatches. In addition to that, users gain access to message scheduling, smart classification, and automated category sorting.
