Visual Studio 2005 comes out on Nov. 7th, 2005. I plan to resume development at that time. This release will involve rebuilding the UI, which is currently a kludgey mess. The beta has some issues, and I don't have MSDN access to the CTPs (I did at my job, and they fixed the problems). The new release will have a familiar yet subtly improved UI (for example, the view toolbar will be a real toolbar that can be docked to the edges of the window, as in Office). There should also be fewer crashes (not that there are all that many now) since a lot of the issues seem to be some of the things I fool around with on the UI. It should be exciting. Recall that when I began this project a year and a half ago, I had no experience with .NET, Visual Studio, etc. Now, at my internship, I am considered one of the most knowledgeable people in the company! They kept me on past the summer and I am now working on another project, which incidentally is that much less free time : \ (I'd rather continue working at CVS, since it's a nice break from school and computers, but I must consider what looks better).

for some reason when i come back to my computer after a while i got that little "problem has occured" with send or dont send error report thing... and it closes.... dunno why its happening. kinda weird. and it says nothing about sending you a bug report. not a big deal just wondering if anyone else was having this problem or just me.

That's odd. If you can, try and manually send me any information you can get from the Windows Error report (click "to see what data this error report contains, click here").

I've been getting it also, but I've been lacking in getting the data. Also, I'm glad to see that you noticed the HTML in tbe alerts. That's why I came back today (to post an example of what my alerts have looked like this past couple of weeks).

Anyhow, the next time I get an error message, I'll do my best to get the information for you.

Patrick.

yeah, i've started getting this as well. really odd, it will work great for days and days and then...it always seems to happen when i go out of town for the weekend, and i'll come home and it's dead.

the reason i came on here right now is because it just did it after i left the room...and it hasn't crashed in who knows how long.

I think I have figured out the origin of the problem (due to playing the sound for weather alerts) -- can you guys confirm that a weather alert occurred when the program crashed (you should see the tray icon blinking)

I got a pop-up, and the icon changed to red, then it all crashed. And, I can do one better then confirm it, I took some screenshots of the details of the error message. I've also got the text file that was going with the error report.

Let me know if you want me to send it to you, and I will. It's in a zip file.

2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

until you get started that is...

im excited tho. this is like one of my most favoritist program ever.

kinda surprising how you started making this program you had no experience in .NET , you really went from nothing to something in not a lot of time.l

by the way, what language is this written in?

Well, there is still the school aspect. I have been working on it on and off for the last few months but I've been redoing automatic updates so I can't release anything.

Also I won't be getting 2005 immediately, but rather once it is released to my school's MSDNAA site.

The original version was written in VB.NET but I quickly switched over to C#, which has become my favorite programming language.

So yes, I'd love to work on it, but school and work are precluding it

 Don't support New Zealand ><

Oh well...

nvm this if someone has said it all ready >< 40 pages on 64kB is no fun to read (I'm caped)

EDIT: nvm agen, I think I may have made a spelling error last time, Works now ^^

Blame weather.com, not me. I'm a software developer, not a meteorological company. Anyway it works with Auckland; try until you find somewhere close enough to you.

So VS 2005 was made available on the MSDNAA (MSDN Academic Alliance) so naturally I downloaded it immediately. Of course, Disc 2 wouldn't download because it kept getting 404 errors, so I retried a few times, and then it said my install limit was reached. Great, right? Argh! Now I'm waiting for the administrator to fix it.

Incidentally, I obviously realize that I made a huge mistake in altering the program such that I can't release updates until I finish the alterations. I fully plan on taking steps such that this never happens again. I realized once I found out that the severe weather alerts weren't working due to weather.com what a big mistake it was. Unfortunately I didn't label the actual released version nor did I branch, so I've no way to go back and fix it without possibly screwing things up further. Argh! Lousy school!

Hey Mark!!

Any chance of getting an update to this any time soon?? Mine still crashes on a regular basis.

If you'd like I'd be happy to beta test for you as well...Just let me know.

What crashes were you having? I have any emails you might have sent me but don't remember what problems you were having.

I am still working on it, unfortunately I'm having issues creating a resizable window that allows for localization; the dynamic sizing of the controls on the window makes performance SUCK when the user resizes the window.

I'm not sure what causes the crash as most of the time it does it while I'm away. However, the other day I noticed that I got the pop up balloon saying that the "status" was changing, along with the thunder clap sound and shortly after that it crashed. I didn't save the dialog or anything, but I will next time now that I know your currently working on it.
