John Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 Try it in IE instead of MyIE2. If it works in IE but not MyIE2, send in a report and say it doesn't work with MyIE2. If it doesn't work with either, then report it and maybe it's just a fluke. duckman
Windows Update isn't working for me with RC2 either. I just get an endless "Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software..." It is beta I suppose, but by RC2 you would expect the big things to be working... Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/178868-sp2-rc2-windows-update-problem/#findComment-2296405 Share on other sites

John Veteran Posted June 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted June 16, 2004 If you mean does it list updates, yes. If you mean are there any new updates that aren't on v4, no. If you mean any updates to this thread, I don't know what you're asking about  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/178868-sp2-rc2-windows-update-problem/#findComment-2296656 Share on other sites

McGazza
must be a service we have disabled, can you guys list your running services and which of them are set to automatica and manual and etc etc? well look at "Automatic Update" Services then It Enables the download and installation of Windows updates. If this service is disabled, this computer will not be able to use the Automatic Updates feature or the Windows Update Web site. It should be on automatic, check if it is started or not. I dont think any other services shud have anything to do with windows update. srlevine1
JUST ALLOW THE ACTIVE-X CONTROL TO BE DOWNLOADED - PROBLEM GONE! After installation of Windows XP/Service Pack 2 - the firewall default is on and certain browser security enhancements are activated. The problem can be solved by carefully reading the top line of the browers window where there is an innocent error message telling you that some active-x content has been blocked... you need to rightclick on this window and allow the active-x component to be installed. Then the windows update feature will work correctly. If you are running your own firewall (Black Ice, Zone Alarm, etc.) you may wish to turn off the MS Firewall (there is a control panel icon for firewall) or adjust you firewall settings.
