Celestial Object

Recommended Posts

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but for the past few days, i've seen a bright star/object/whatever it may be near the moon. In my location, i see it off the lower left of the moon. Anyone else see it? **sits as everyone goes and checks** ;)

So what is it?

I saw it. It is a star. If you look around, there are millions of them out there :p

Really? I'll have to keep my eyes open for them!

But i thought this one was special!

I would have to guess it's Spica - the 14th brightest star in the sky ;)

Since you did not give your exact location - nor even the slightest clue to exactly where your looking. Ie how far away from the moon is it? It's quite hard to be sure - could you give us the RA and Dec your looking at ;)

This is what your looking at - is in not? Yeah that is the star Spica.

Here's a clue....Planets don't 'twinkle', and can be seen better through plain old binoculars. Give it a try...

Venus is the brightest object in the sky, outside of the moon and sun.

they do twinkle if they have a bunch of people on them with tin foil hats on.
