KZWings
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but for the past few days, i've seen a bright star/object/whatever it may be near the moon. In my location, i see it off the lower left of the moon. Anyone else see it? **sits as everyone goes and checks** ;) So what is it?

BOOGMaster
I saw it. It is a star. If you look around, there are millions of them out there :p

+BudMan MVC Posted June 27, 2004 MVC Share Posted June 27, 2004 (edited) I would have to guess it's Spica - the 14th brightest star in the sky ;) Since you did not give your exact location - nor even the slightest clue to exactly where your looking. Ie how far away from the moon is it? It's quite hard to be sure - could you give us the RA and Dec your looking at ;) This is what your looking at - is in not? Yeah that is the star Spica. And 14th brightest, eh? Seems brighter ;) Thanks for the replies.

KZWings
You asked for it :p http://www.townsusa.org/city/Pennsylvania/Elverson/ Latitude: +40.153437 Longitude: -75.830705 Hows that for "exact"?

That's your town's loc. Now, within that, pinpoint your house, then your window, then your telescop location in your window. Now THAT'S exact. :p :D
....
Here's a clue....Planets don't 'twinkle', and can be seen better through plain old binoculars. Give it a try... Venus is the brightest object in the sky, outside of the moon and sun.
