Windows XP SP2 cracked already?

Recommended Posts

EVEN THOUGH Microsoft has not yet released service pack 2 for Windows XP, word reaches the INQ that its anti-piracy features have already been cracked open.

Microsoft has claimed that it's introduced features in SP2 which mean that illegal users of stolen or cracked activation codes won't be able to upgrade the OS, which is due for release in August of this year.

However, sources in the community are claiming that there's already a keygen for service pack 2 out in the wild that will bypass the security arrangements.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is previewing a better version of Windows Update software on its web site, which can be found here, with appropriate caveats. It requires you to install a fresh piece of Update code, but certainly looks quite a bit cleaner. ?

* WARNING! DON'T INSTALL this stuff unless you're absolutely sure what you're doing. We've already heard from one reader who had to do an XP system restore.

has MS released SP2 to anyone like beta testers or anything? I mean, if it's internal only code, it's pretty impossible for them to crack it unless either;

a) Someone internal leaked it

b) They've used similar/same code as SP1 to deter illegal keys :|

Either way... :|

Where the hell does it leave legitimate users like me??

It ****es me off to see that illegal users have everything going for them with those damn f***ing crackers.  There are some things that illegal users do not deserve and SP2 protection is one of them. Maybe MS should allow updates for illegal users such that their IE is riddled with holes and bugs and so messes up their system.

if leaves you being silly to have paid for such a product :woot:

This doesn't quite make sense. The keygen was available a long time ago, and this keygen in conjunction with a VLK install of Windows XP allows any joe to install Windows without activating. XP SP2 wasn't going to change that from what I am aware, XP SP2 simply expanded the CD-key blacklist and broke the old reset crack.

In a manner of speaking, XP SP2 was cracked before it even hit the drawing board, because of this keygen. Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

By the way, I am running a legal version of Windows XP.

Why cant they use their knowledge to create more secure systems rather than crack them open? I know many hate MS as a corporation but they could consider the users as the base and work with MS to secure their products. :hmmm:

I doubt hate for Microsoft was any motivation to the people who cracked Windows XP. Quite simply, they just want a free ride, in that they do not want to pay for Windows XP when they can get it for free (even if it's breaking the law).

you got it right all across the board

They're cracking to avoid payment, nothing more. In fact, if you're familure with the cracks and the people who create them, you'd see that very few advocate outright stealing of the OS.

Getting around the anti-piracy schemes in SP2 is nothing difficult anyways, and can be done with pre-SP2 programs.

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price.
