Windows XP SP2 cracked already?

Recommended Posts

Where the hell does it leave legitimate users like me??

It ****es me off to see that illegal users have everything going for them with those damn f***ing crackers.  There are some things that illegal users do not deserve and SP2 protection is one of them. Maybe MS should allow updates for illegal users such that their IE is riddled with holes and bugs and so messes up their system.

hey man...dont hate the playa, hate the game:P lmao...

 god i love this world!

i will not be stong armed into buying something just so i can play games on my computer. games that i payed for..

Nobody's "strong-arming" anybody into buying any OS. You have the choice to use any OS you want but unfortunately there are not a lot of ports of the popular games in Windows to Linux.

But it says on the box that Windows is a requirement. You can see that before you pay for the damn game

right but... i said i'm being strong armed. and having the angst that i have and being the punk that i am.. and also (this is my newest excuse for being stupid) being the american i am, i don't like it.. not one bit

Oh please. So what, you feel you would have a right to steal a PS2 if you bought games for it? Who the heck is strongarming you to buy Windows anyway?

Everything can be cracked and always will be until users have no control whatsoever and then noone will buy windows

I am actually surpised at how easy cracking and ripping is

I always thought that these were people who worked for like a year on (some do, but rarely)

and then I myself was able to make a nocd crack for some game in a week and firgured out how to rip stuff off launch in 40 minutes (though I use two programs to help me in my rip technique so it's not like I did it from scratch

but it should be harder to crack then this, I mean seriously RC2 has only been out for like a month

what if i spent all my money on herb?      what's windows cost these days?  150-175 for xp pro?

Last time I checked the RRP was around $300 USD. You can get it for less than half than the RRP on ebay though. That's how I got my copy.

EDIT: Reworded the sentence.

right but... i said i'm being strong armed. and having the angst that i have and being the punk that i am.. and also (this is my newest excuse for being stupid) being the american i am, i don't like it.. not one bit

Then go out and get the *job* that you *need*, rebel.

Honestly, I see the reasoning for making these piracy prevention features, but it's is really wasted coding. Everything will be cracked one way or another, and there is really no way around it except for like....having each cd have a different serial number which in order to get the actual key you enter you need to call the software maker.

I would rather see them spend the time spent trying to stop piracy used rather to fix some of those holes that keep popping up.

SIDENOTE: Perhaps the release of SP2 has been so delayed because everytime someone cracks their current prevention scheme, they go back to the drawing board.

Review high priority updates

High priority updates are critical and security-related updates.

No high priority updates are selected for installation. Microsoft recommends that you install high priority updates to help keep your computer up-to-date and secure. To view optional updates available for your computer, click one of the optional updates links under the Home link.

I always get that from windows update. EVERYTIME

,Jul 5 2004, 13:49] What, you want something like Windows WE? Welfare Edition?

  That was the funniest comment I have heard so far.

SIDENOTE: Perhaps the release of SP2 has been so delayed because everytime someone cracks their current prevention scheme, they go back to the drawing board.

I seriously doubt that. I dont think MS will do that everytime a crack is released. That means they may never get to release if the crackers want to play fun and release a crack everytime just to spite MS.

SIDENOTE: Perhaps the release of SP2 has been so delayed because everytime someone cracks their current prevention scheme, they go back to the drawing board.

Doubtful. To get past the issue with people using keygens to get past activation with their VLK copy of Windows XP would require an incredibly fundamental change to the way the Windows XP installer accepts VLK keys (eg. new keys will need to be issues by MS, silent pseudo-activation with verification of the key when access to the internet was made available to the workstation, etc). These changes would cause hell for admins who roll out the service pack over a network to many workstations, not to mention raise a lot of privacy concerns. And on top of all that, it would probably be cracked again in a month.

Bottom line - it's not worth it for Microsoft to devise new methods of disabling users with illegal copies of Windows XP using a VLK from a keygen, as it would provoke a lot of criticism AND it would be most certainly be in vain.

This is old news. New keygens being released does not effect the legit users out there. I agree with their first offer, letting everyone have it so the threats stay minimal. Microsoft gets everything they deserve for being as greedy as they are [exploiting the average home user by not doing their own job].

Don't worry. You're computer will get SP2 and you'll sleep fine at night.

Someone said something about how secure can a firewall be if you can get a key for it with a keygen....What does that have to do with anything dude? All software can be cracked and keygens and cracks are released for them just days or hours after they are released.

    • Visual Studio finally gets long-awaited feature that developers will love by Usama Jawad Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's popular, lightweight, open-source code editor, it is actually Visual Studio that is the company's flagship integrated development environment (IDE). Although the IDE already offers a boatload of useful features for developers, Microsoft has finally introduced a long-requested capability that will be loved by many. While developers have already been able to create Git pull requests (PRs) directly within Visual Studio for the past couple of years, it had not been possible to review a PR without switching to the browser, until now. Microsoft revealed in December 2025 that it is working on UX that enables developers to do just that, and fast-forward to June 2026, and Visual Studio finally has native capabilities to open and inspect a PR, discuss feedback, and wrap up the review, all without switching to the browser. This integration works for both GitHub and Azure DevOps (including on-prem). Developers have access to multiple surfaces to open a PR, including Git Repository, Git Changes, and the Git menu in Visual Studio. Once you open a PR, all the important details will be immediately visible to you, from where you can navigate to various levels of granularity and branch states, depending on the reviews that you are engaged in. As you would expect, you also get a diff view that enables you to see code changes inline or side-by-side in a separate panel. You can also review commit-by-commit. Additionally, this UX fosters collaboration as you can leave comments, reply to threads, and resolve conversations easily. Naturally, you can also leverage Copilot to apply a code suggestion to fix a potential issue. When you are done, you have the ability to approve, complete, and merge the PR. This is a pretty major feature as it has been requested heavily for the past few years. You can try it out in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, made available here recently. Microsoft plans to enhance this experience further in future releases with comment filtering, a timeline of PR activity, and more.

    • Around 68% of developers are now using AI to generate code during development, and some experts are saying that a single developer using AI tools can now do the work of an entire team of 4 to 5 engineers.  According to Figma's State of the Designer 2026 report, 72% of designers now use generative AI in their workflows and 91% say it improves the quality of their work, not just their speed.  But does this mean web developers and designers are becoming less relevant, or are they simply evolving into a different kind of role? Would love to hear from developers and designers here has AI made your job easier, or do you feel threatened by how fast these tools are improving
