Just did a quick check and I am at 4Mbps / 768kbps on a cable modem.

Just a quick qoute from a customer, "I am getting only 512kbps or 64kBps, bits and bytes, so it looks like a problem with computer converting bits to bytes, can you help me. " I wrote back to check his math and got the reply "if you can't help me I am going somewhere else where they can", I think a elementary school would do the most good for this one.

jerzdawg: your ISP will tell you you've got 3Mbps download, and 512 upload. This is in Megabits, and Kilobits.

If you want to convert into download speed, just divide the value by 8.

so....

3Mbps or3072kb/s = 384kilobytes per second

512Kb/s = 64kilobytes per second

3 Mbit = 3,000 kbit = 3,000,000 bit

3,000,000 bit = 375,000 B

375,000 B = 366.2109375 kB

512 kbit = 512,000 bit

512,000 bit = 64,000 B

64,000 B = 62.5 kB
