Your Mac Hardware Setup

Recommended Posts

Macbook first, then possibly an imac later on lol

I'd say that's a great plan. (Y) I started out with a Mini, and I liked it so much I wanted a laptop. So then I got the MacBook Pro, and liked it and its power so much I bought a Mac Pro. You'll get hooked and keep expanding! XD

Indeed, I started a topic here asking about the mini, then a day later I had to get it changed to a macbook lol.

Get both! awesome.png

I did! Haha, I got hooked when I started using my MacBook full-time over my windows desktop. I went to the Apple store and walked out with a 24" iMac to replace my desktop. Couldn't be happier.

Alright - no pictures as I am afraid the desk is waaay too messy, but...this is what I have my system set up on:

iMac 20" Mid 2007 model with all latest software updates.

1 WD Mybook 500gb hard drive

1 External DVD/RW in enclosure (Cheapo Lite-on)

1 Hp Printer (Deskjet F4235)

1 160mb Sata Drive in enclosure for my virtual machines (Salvaged from old Acer that commited suicide by keyboard decoder)

Stock aluminum keyboard and mouse

For sound, this is my "party box" sorta..

Classic 5.1 surround (currently not in that mode), Creative Labs system, with a killer bass sub, 6" and puts out more bass than some of the best cars I have been around. Seriously. I have the sub woofer running the left/right channels to a Nextech splitter that I got from Circuit City's last day of being open. I have 4 speakers hooked into that for my tweeters, essentially two at the pc, and two around the TV for when we watch Movies or Boxee from the Mac to the TV, the amp that powers the speakers is a 15 year old or so JVC 80w surround sound receiver.

I know, I need to update the sound hardware, but since I had it collecting dust in the storage, why not eh? lol

Sorry for the crappy pics - My camera batteries were dead so I had to use my phone.

My setup

Mac Mini - latest model (hidden in the desk)

2.0 GHz

4 GB RAM

120 GB HD

750 External HD for Media

500 GB HD for Time Machine

MacBook Air rev A

1.6 Ghz

80 GB HD

2 GB RAM

As well as a capture of the AMAZING! diNovo Edge Mac Edition - probably the most amazing keyboard I have ever touched

How tough was it to load Leopard on the Mini and does it run satisfactorily? I am thinking about picking one up.

TIA

It was pretty easy. I followed the guide on MyHPmini.com

I installed OSX with my retail dvd and installed the drivers posted on there

It runs great without any problems.

everything works:

- Wifi

- Bluetooth

- Sound

- Native screen resolution (1024x600)

- Trackpad

- Two finger scroll & side scroll

- Webcam

- And everything else...

@thefarewellnote

how much was the dinovo edge keyboard? last i checked was around AU$350

also is there any difference between the original and the mac edition? or {inserts flame material here:} just costs an extra grand? :p ;)

but seriously its a really nice keyboard can you tell me how well it reacts to input over its bluetooth connection? even at its rated 10 meter distance?

I think it is amazing and reacts very well. The buttons are so soft and responsive.

I got mine from PC Connection - it was only 99 USD with free shipping. Cheaper than I could find it on ebay

The difference between the mac one and the Windows one is that the Mac one has the Command keys instead of the windows keys, and the function buttons all have little icons on them so you can press it and it will launch the associated app.

I think it is well worth the money

    • New Outlook for Windows and Web is getting a simple but very useful email feature by Sayan Sen Recently Microsoft put up a blog post highlighting not one, not two, but 15 total reasons why it feels you should switch to New Outlook already. If that was not enough, the company is bringing another new feature soon that could finally compel you to switch over to the new app. According to a recent update on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the tech giant is making changes to how message sorting works when users choose criteria besides the traditional options of From, Subject, or Date Received. The idea is to provide better options for the attribute being used for sorting and make it easier to understand why messages appear in a particular order. For those unfamiliar Outlook already allows users to sort emails using a variety of fields including sender, category, importance, subject, and message size. Users can access these options through the Filter menu in Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. With the upcoming change, whenever users sort by a field other than From, Subject, or Date Received, Outlook will automatically display an additional column showing the value being used for the sort. For example, if messages are sorted by Size, a Size column will appear in the message list, allowing users to immediately see the data that determines the ordering of emails. Microsoft believes this should make sorting behavior simpler and reduce the need to manually adjust views or inspect individual messages. Support for sorting by Flag Due Date is also coming and should be especially be helpful for users who rely on email flags to manage follow-up tasks and deadlines. The feature is listed under Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564803 and is expected to reach general availability beginning later this month itself (June 2026). You can find the entry here. As always though, users should keep in mind that roadmap timelines can change and rollout schedules may occasionally be adjusted by Microsoft. Outlook for Web is also set to receive this feature.
    • That is true. but the liability side of my balance sheet is clean and has been for decades.  Nobody comes a knocking,  calling or writing harassing me for the money i owe them.😎👍  Haven't dealt with "a money changer" in decades and like Jesus it was in Jerusalem.  Don't have much money, but have even less stress in my life.👍👍     P.S.  Sorry, can't walk on water or change it to wine,
    • Maybe ? DLSS Swapper (can swap the DLSS/FSR/XeSS versions) as long as the game (typically online/competitive) doesn't checks for file tampering. You can try different version(s) or update if not the current version of the FSR. https://github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper
