Your Mac Hardware Setup

Recommended Posts

No Picks at the mo, But I have a 24" iMac in the bedroom, a Mac Pro with 8TB of HD space and 10GB of RAM in the front room. (serving Media and converting media between various formats) 17" 1st gen MacBook Pro for round the house and a 15" Late 2008 Macbook Pro for Work.

I love the fact some people have G4 towers and the Cinema diaplays still going. Mine all died off a while ago or where upgraded, but they are my favorite Apple machines. Still have a few at work.

Nice, you sure do have a lot of storage! Do you use all that:p:p

Nice, you sure do have a lot of storage! Do you use all that? :p

At some Point or another yes lol

the PNY thumb sticks are mostly for Windows bootable apps and or portable apps

The 320gb WD portable i mostly use with my PS3

the 500GB older WD used to be a DVR extender for my Dish-network box

until bootcamp 3.0 with SL the time capsule used to be my main way of transferring large files from Mac to windows and back

I use which ever drive is most empty at the time for testing OS's mac, ubuntu, windows and i used the 1TB drive to test how the SL upgrade Process was going to go before i did it to me real system drive

I never had a white iMac, my last one was a 24-inch aluminium iMac (Early 2008, 3.06 GHz)

But thanks! And yeah, it did cost a fair amount. Oh well. :p

I own two of them and I know that they do set you back but are worth EVERY penny :)

Love you setup btw. It's nice and clean. I wish I could have a setup like that but I own my own business and my home office is as organized as I can get it but it still feels out of whack with reports and financial statements, etc.. on the desk. Not to mention all the estimates, stationary, pens, calculatgors, post-its, etc... It's a mess...but an organized mess...BUT still a mess. lol.

I'll let you in on a little secret, but be sure not to tell anyone else! :shiftyninja: ...My desk usually only looks like that after vacuuming the room. You don't want to see the inside of the cabinet standing underneath my printer.

Thanks btw!

I used to be the type that tried to make my room like a furniture store catalogue. But I've grown to realise that it's so unrealistic. I have stuff. I use stuff. And to me, this is what I call perfect imperfection: This is my setup, and soon to include a 24" iMac as well.

Don't worry, my guess is that all the picture perfect photo we see here are only that, perfect for a picture. The mess comes right back after. Unless the person is a clean freak....

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
