IMO most of the mac screens look terrible until u run colorsync profile in display preferences. I usually do it to the ones in the stores on demo - i cant help myself. They look so whitewashed! :p

Wow, I cant belive I used the defualt for more then a year. My LCD looks a lot better now.

Apple's clients mainly include media professionals, including video, print and web editing/design. Apple has a reputation of having one of the best color-correctness in the business. Although, most companies are there now, Apple still holds the reputation.

Every screen from Apple comes with a custom designed profile just for that screen. 99 percent of the time they are near perfect color correctness. There is the rare occasion when color can be slightly off (as in the case of my old 12" powerbook) but even in those cases, utilities like color sync do little good. They depend on the human eye, which from the start is flawed in the way you see color being as every human eye is completley different. Also, many other things come into play such as viewing angle and distance from the screen. I gaurantee you that Apple's default profiles are 500 percent more correct then anything your eye could pull out of color sync.

My guess is that you have been used to another screen, whether it be a CRT on a mac or a screen on a PC that has trained your eye to see one thing and now that you are seeing soemthing different, your mind pictures it as wrong. If you still feel the need to change the color just for your own personal preference, go ahead, but there is no need to do it on public computers. The color is correct. Also, don't forget that you are probably used to seeing an output of gamma at 1.8 on a PC when Macs run at 2.2 IIRC. They are not whitewashed.

Since we already have a thread with setup pics, I'm moving it there. Also, if you could make the images a little smaller, it would be appreciated. I use a larger than normal resolution, and I have to scroll to see the whole pic.

Nice sword...

:ninja: Its a British foxhunting sword. My father gave it to my older brother last year. :ninja:

Thanks for moving the thread for me Superflua, was'nt sure where to post it.

I thought the image size limit was 1024x768...is it like 800x600 now or something? I get conflicting answers here and in Mac Desktops...anyhoo i can size em down for you.

With a messy room like that I would go insane....

:ninja: Other than the floor...why is it messy? :ninja:

I have seen far worse in computer repair shops. Ever see a table stacked to the ceiling with parts and a sign that says 'If you can't find it, dig.'? I have. I'm used to the slight mess...with five 20-year-olds living on one house, I don't really expect much different LOL.

Thanks man. You're right, it was 1024x768, but that is still a bit too large. It's been changed to 800x600 now. I think most shouldn't have any problems with that size.

:ninja: Yeh, it's probably a good idea to support older iBook/iMac/Powerbook users and their lower-res screens. Poor ******s. LOL. :ninja:

Wow... All I can say is... bitch at the mofo's that bang up your stuff... I would go ballistic if ANYONE mesed up ANY part of my desk...

I'd probably make them buy me a new one... flaws = bad...

Also, I'd invest in a few newer monitors, all that CRT-ness would make me go NUTS... I can't stand computer labs, I don't think I could survive your room.

Although I bet it's nice and toasty in the winter!

:ninja: The b****ing has already commenced lol :ninja:

The thing is, I can get a 20" CRT for $20 US in kansas City, whereas an LCD is over a thousand...LOL I spent all my $$ on my G5 and the 9800 Pro 256MB...and for gaming, a CRT cannot be beaten for image clarity and color, not to mention refresh rates. I also have the added bonus of having a display originally intended for scientific research...it's made by Spectra Physics Analytical, originally meant for visualizing long data graphs at high densities, so it is a good deal wider than it is tall, giving it a widescreen size. As for the heat...well, ever hear of central air LOL? And as for being in a lab...how else we gonna game LOL?

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
