Tropical Dream
Basically, if you make good, useful posts, people vote that you are on the good karma side and your posts tend to get more "credibility" and "appreciation". Often allowing your default number to be above Zero. The higher your rating, the higher your number. Some others can set the filter to 1, 2, 3, etc. if they want a higher quality of post. They can choose to filter out those who have a Zero or -1, -2, etc., which tend to be those with bad karma (bad rating). So basically, it's like a default ignore filter for low quality posters. that seems interesting especially in the "World issues" section
Bearded Kirklander
that seems interestingespecially in the "World issues" section It can end up being nothing more than a popularity contest, especially if you have bad moderators who are biases and let their biases get into the way of fairness. What ends up happening is that unpopular people, even if they make great posts, get shoved to the bottom and the buddies of the mods or people who seem popular even if they say stupid things, they get pushed to the top. So far the moderators here seem really pretty fair and stay neutral and there is an appeal policy here (other sites ban you for making appeals) so it might work here, but I hope they don't do it. I kind of like things just the way they are, I guess. I've seen a lot of crappily run forums out there and having found this place, it's like a haven or oasis by comparison. This place is much more friendly, and they encourage you to post a lot, and I like that cause I have a big mouth. :D
OptiPlex
I'm against this. Only because some troll always gave me a negative rating for ALL my posts in a different forum.
